Elliot, Coloccini, Tavernier, Tiote, Gosling, Vuckic All Start

Newcastle make as many as 9 changes for the Capital One Cup tie at Old Trafford tonight, from the side that started against Norwich City last Sunday.

As expected Fab Coloccini and Cheick Tiote return to the starting line-up after recovering from injury, and Rob Elliot gets another chance in goal, which he deserves after his excellent display last week in Madeira.

As we suspected,  the in-form Mike Williamson partners Colo at the back,  and Steven Taylor gets a rest and isn’t even on the bench. Mike and James Perch are the only players who started on Sunday who will also start tonight.

James Tavernier gets a chance on the big stage at Old Trafford, but no starting place for Gael Bigirimana tonight, although he could get some playing time in the second half, as the 18 year-old is on the bench.

Shola Ameobi starts up front but Papiss Cisse starts on the bench tonight, and it looks like Haris Vuckic will play just behind Shola up front.

This is very much a second team being fielded by Newcastle tonight, and the Man United team sees Darren Fletcher return and captain the side tonight.

De Gea, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney and Chicarito all in what looks to be a pretty strong side for the Red Devils tonight – that’s a pity.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Manchester United De Gea; Vermijl, M.Keane, Wootton, Büttner; Fletcher (capt), Cleverley, Anderson; Welbeck, Rooney, Chicharito.
Subs: Lingard; Evans, Johnstone, Tunnicliffe, Brady, Powell, King

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Rob Elliot; James Perch, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), James Tavernier; Gabriel Obertan, Cheick Tiote, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux; Haris Vuckic; Shola Ameobi
Subs: Steve Harper, Shane Ferguson, Gael Bigirimana, Vurnon Anita, Romain Amalfitano, Sammy Ameobi, Papiss Cisse

gosling over bigi, no abeid. no cisse when this probably would have been the perfect game for him. think fergie deserves a runout against gabby’s current form.

where’s the application for the manager’s job? 😀

the team for tonight is very good although 2 changes i would have fancied
1 ferguson as a FB instead of perch
    2sammy rather than gosling.

Funny old team that one, thought Pardew wanted to win something, have no idea why we are resting players who need games, Cabaye, Bigi, and Ben Arfa could have played. however it wil tell us a bit more about Gosling, Marveaux and Vuckic.

Pleased Tavernier is playing, personally would play perch LB and Tav RB, have no idea why Pardew thinks tavernier is a LB, weird. Lets see if we start the game strong for a change.

Hmmm…..will save judgement on the line up until after kick off.

Check…Agreed, it’s good to see Tav getting another start. He has looked promising and I thought he got a lot of stick for one bad performance.

Thanks matt. Winnable then. Rooney has history of being quite a decent player and Hernandez has moments but I reckon we could give them a game.

    TADS,

no idea, man. is it wrong of me to think there’s a bit of preference based on a bit of xenophobia?

pardew has always had an inclination towards British players until proven innumerable times that their foreign counterparts are indeed better players. that’s the thing that always pops in my head when i see gosling in the line-up and abeid nowhere to be found.

i mean, we’ve all seen them play with our own eyes. Abeid is miles ahead in terms of understanding the game. i just don’t get it, really

My biggest prob with gos is he doesn’t seem that mobile and he’s gonna have to change that tonight big time which is the main reason i’d prefer to see abied or bigi they cover some serious ground during matches but oh well heres hoping that gos (finally) finds his form tonight

i don’t think gosling is a ‘hate’ figure on here

youngsters have to take their chance when it’s given. it’s cut throat. it’s the way it is. it’d be stretching it to even call me a youngster at 23. in my honest opinion, and i think it’s worth saying he seems like a great guy, a stand-up guy, he’s just not good enough. maybe he can come good, but, i think a lot of us who criticize his inclusion feel it’s hampering the progress of Abeid and Bigi….even Amalfitano who i feel is no winger and could make it here in a CAM/second striker role

Why not play full strength? Why play shadow sides in Europa and capital cups? To finish 6th in league and repeat the process again next season! You play 5 games to 6 games to win this cup, go for it in every game with your best side. We desperately need a cup-any one!!!! Can’t understand the logic of some managers.
