Bigirimana Starts – Preferred To Anita In Midfield

18 year-old Gael Bigirimana has been handed his first Premier League start this afternoon at Reading, and he is preferred to Vurnon Anita in central midfield, with Vurnon on the bench. We expect Gael to be given the role of attacking midfielder alongside Cheick Tiote.

That’s the big surprise this afternoon, as we had expected Vurnon Anita to have started in Yohan’s position, and James Perch retains his right back spot in the continued absence of Danny Simpson.

Steve Harper returns in goal and as expected Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor are the center-backs with Fab Coloccini rested to recover fully from his hamstring strain.

Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse start up front so this is an important game for Gael, who joined us from Coventry City in the summer for just £1M, and has made a fantastic start to his Newcastle career.

Gael Bigirimana – gets first start in the Premier League this afternoon

When Gael has started he’s looked very good in a black and white shirt and we have to think he’s been very impressive in training to be preferred to Vurnon Anita today.

We’re also a bit surprised that Vurnon didn’t get a start at right-back but he’s very likely to be brought on in the second half this afternoon, and it’s important that Newcastle pick up all 3 points this afternoon at the Madejski Stadium.

For Reading, Newcastle January target Adrian Mariappa makes his league debut at center-back for the Royals this afternoon.

We need the win today.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Reading -McCarthy, Cummings, Shorey, Mariappa, Gorkss, Leigertwood, Karacan, McAnuff, Kebe, Hunt, Pogrebnyak
Subs: Taylor, Gunter, Pearce, Guthrie, McCleary, Le Fondre, Roberts

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Steve Harper; James Perch, Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Davide Santon; Hatem Ben Arfa, Gael Bigirimana, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez (c); Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, James Tavernier, Shane Ferguson, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi

Be interesting to see how tank and mini tank line up next to each other. Should be solid, just wondering about what creativity they can offer from the middle of the park. If only we had a player who is capable of ripping through teams to get that ball forward 😉

Come on lads. Let’s get those 3 points. Convincingly would be preferred, but points are priority!

Hmm. Quite defensive having two tiote’s in midfield and Jonas on the left. But at least there’s three zippy attacking players on the bench.

No place for marv on the bench. Injured again or has Pards finally realised he’s a lazy non presence on the field?

Excellent that bigi is getting a start, although I probs would have gone for Anita at rb rather than perch. Just perch hasn’t been up to his best at rb this season imo.

Also, this arsenal, Chelsea game is excellent

Burni…What’s your PS3 fifa name? Going to be creating mine later (first time in 7 years I’ve had decent enough internet at my house to even entertain the idea of trying). If successful, I’ll add you.

Bigi had quite a pass on him when he played our first game in Europe, picked out a fair few runs. Wonder if he’s going to play anita’s role in that respect.

Ain’t we all glad we never signed Gervinho! Aha. He can’t pick a pass for sh*t. Very frustrating player! Now I’ve said that, Gervinho to get the equalizer???

Burni….Wouldn’t be worried mate. I’m ok, but nothing impressive about my play. I know that’ll come as a big shock with me being wonderful and all.

Personally, I’d be scared sh*tl*ss having to fact Tiote and Bigi. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them both sent off at the same time. I’m a little worried about the safety of Reading, the explosion could be catastrophic.

Im sort of watchin the arsenal game…cant help but think if our front three had the ball half as much as arsenal around the opponants box they would have alot more than 1 goal

I would have thought perch or Anita would have been a definite to replace cabs in midfield but pleased for bigi all the same.

Thanks jock. Can’t wait either. Going for another hard fought victory. We don’t seem to play well against weaker opposition but we do tend to attack more away from home.

Big scoring game I reckon I can see Reading scoring a few but equally their defence should be abused by Ba and (if the rumours of his return are true) Cisse

Bigi’s got a huge chance though Gosling, Anita and Vuckic haven’t claimed a CM spot imo him and Tiote could be a very strong partnership or they could be horrible time will tell

Yeah no what you mean. Reading will be well up for it.

I’m a bit worried about Pogrebniak coz he’s a real handful and of course Guthrie returning could be a problem.

Surely though the Dembas + Benny will be enough to take the 3 points here?

    Hope so.
