We don’t know if these reports are true, and it’s easy to make this story up again, and after all it is a Sunday – but there are reports today that Newcastle will not match Demba Ba’s wage demands, and he could leave Newcastle United, as early as January.
Demba Ba – after scoring Newcastle’s first goal at Reading yesterday
The report is in the Sunday Mirror and it says that Newcastle are not willing to increase the Senegal striker’s wages at Newcastle from £50K to £60K a week, but anybody who has seen Demba Ba save Newcastle a couple of times with some great goals over the last couple of weeks, would think he may be worth that wage to Newcastle.
Since we have been told by Alan Pardew that Ba’s release clause becomes active again in January, and Demba Ba starting to score goals for fun again, there will be clubs interested in taking the player for a measly £7M in the January window, but that would be terrible for Newcastle to lose one of their best players in that way.
The news is that Ba wants the same wages as Newcastle’s top wage earner, Fabricio Coloccini, and we’re almost sure the numbers being put out are not accurate.
Surely Newcastle would be willing to raise Demba Ba’s wages by 20%, from £50K/week to £60K/week, after the player has scored 22 goals for Newcastle since the start of last season – and not only that – but some of the goals he has scored have been sensational – like yesterday’s first goal when he blazed the ball home on the volley.
We’re likely to get these reports continually leading up to January, and we suppose the best thing is to hope that Newcastle can announce a new wage deal with the Senegal striker before the January window rolls around.
For the record, Demba Ba has scored 22 goals in 43 appearances for Newcastle.
