Argentine View On Newcastle – We Have To Do Better

10:30 am, Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 29 Comments

Jonas Gutierrez has been captaining Newcastle recently, in the absence of his Argentine team-mate Fabricio Coloccini, and Jonas seems to have become an important cog in Newcastle’s wheel, as least as far as manager Alan Pardew is concerned.

Jonas Gutierrez – we have to as well or better than last season

Newcastle are playing two games a week most weeks these days, and we have Bordeaux at home in the Europa League on Thursday night, followed by a home game against Manchester United.

I thought the game was away but I see it’s at home – it’s that dementia setting in. 😀

Jonas seems upbeat about the situation currently at Newcastle:

“Its a big week for us with the Bordeaux and Manchester United games, but that is the way it has been this year. They have all felt like pretty big weeks.” “Europe is very important to us. We worked hard to get there last season and we want to do well.”

“It of course means extra matches for us, but whatever game you are playing in the shirt of Newcastle you want to win.” “You want to do it right for the club. That is the most important thing. We don’t care what team we play against, or what competition we are in, we just want to do things right and win as many games as we can.”

“That’s why we are here, to try to win the big games.” “We are getting a lot of players with injuries and it is a big, big problem for us, what with all the matches we have to play.” “When you don’t have all the players available, its hard for the manager to prepare the team and hard for the players because we don’t have that big a squad.”

“But we have to keep going and keep focused on the jobs we have to do for the team.” “I enjoy being one of the senior members of the squad and hopefully I can help things out a bit.” “To be the captain of a club like Newcastle is a massive honour. “

“Its good for the manager to have that type of long term contract.” ” Its important to have the manager and a lot of the players on long-term deals because it shows what is going on at the club and that they want to keep all of the players.” “The manager has done a great job.”

“He deserved to win manager of the year. But in football you cannot think about the past; you have to think about the present. Like all the players and staff, he is focused on this season now. We have to try to do the same or better than last season.”

Newcastle again have some defensive problems with Danny Simpson, Fab Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Tim Krul and Steven Taylor all out injured at the moment.

It’s now becoming obvious that we needed to bring in another center-back and another striker to the club in the summer transfer window, since we have only three experienced players in each of those important positions in the Newcastle squad.

We have to hope that will be remedied in January, before we run into another problem, and we find out we just don’t have enough players.

That wouldn’t be good.

I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for signings in January if our spotty form continues. It’s probable that Ashley will only release funds if we’re going places; if not we’ll just stumble on to the end of the season. They’re only interested in finishing in the top eight this time around.

The match is at home on sunday. Hope we can start showing some sort of form soon the really positive side of things is we have 9 points and have not really played well at all this season other than in a few glimpses starting AT HOME ON SUNDAY would be fantastic

expect new sponsors for shirts to be sports direct …so the money can be lost among toons debt to ashley.

    Hear.
    Dammit! :)
Off to get coffee. Been talking about it all morning still not had any. Don’t know how I’m functioning.

For everyone who loves a conspiracy theory the Chron is reporting the new sponsor is not SD and stadium naming rights are not included.

Conaldo…Spelling police here. You have 3 minutes to rectify your mistake or you will be banished from the blog. Ball is in your court, proceed with caution good sir.

    Well done, phew.

That was a close one. I shall be careful to proceed with posts only after consulting with a dictionary.

Ibiza – are there any other blog police positions available at this moment in time?

Wizard…I took the que from Ian and went for a nice cup of Baresso ( the Danish version of Starbucks); had a meeting in town anyway.

Right kettle is boiling, no need to worry anymore :)

Wizard…..Got to say, that wasn’t the best timing to apply (given your recent mistake). I do however, recognise how quickly you rectified this and will be in touch as and when an opening comes up.

In the meantime, please feel free to apply ‘citizen arrest’ ideals upon the blog. Your hard work will be noted.

Tequila….Interesting. So that would lead us to believe it’s just a more lucrative shirt sponsor? Not quite the excitement some were looking for. Was there anything mentioned about when we may expect to hear anything?

I’m neutral on Jonas, on his day he’s an excellent crosser and decent threat on the wing but his performances are overwhelming mediocre.

He would actually be better if he didn’t go down so easy sometimes, here’s hoping he can lead us to some results during this injury crisis.

I’ve only got poison coffee but ill get a costa in a couple hours…

  • 17 jesperfuglsang // Oct 2, 2012 at 10:58 AM

Wizard…that instant coffee will kill you one day (at least tell me it’s cafetiere ;D) lol

  • 18 tequilamag // Oct 2, 2012 at 10:59 AM

No it was tagged on to the end of a story about Anita. New sponsor still a mystery

  • 19 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Yeah I dug the cafetiere out, no need to worry, :)

  • 20 jesperfuglsang // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Tequila…and I think someone at BBC joked about it being Tesco (I think the irony was SD related :D)

  • 21 tequilamag // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:02 AM

Jesper God knows who it will be and in some ways who cares as long as its more cash

  • 22 jawballsaswallwell // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:02 AM

Speaking of Man U and our defence. Utd’s attack is chilling on paper and likely also on the pitch at St James’ after the Tottenham result. You fear the worst if we don’t get our first choice back four fit. I don’t think I’m doing the defence we put out at Reading a disservice in saying that.

  • 23 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:03 AM

    Tequila…Cheers.

Wizard…I have heard instant increases your chances of the nasty “c” word. That news has made me reduce my daily intake from about 20 to 10 cups. Basically improving my health by 50%. Not sure what the implication of Red Bull and speed to compensate the missing 10 cups is mind.

Hmmm…I need to get on some football talk, will be ousted for using the blog as some social networking site.

So, football, it’s a good sport, yeah?

  • 24 jesperfuglsang // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:04 AM

    Tequila…so true!

  • 25 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:07 AM

Tequilla…How about Jose Cuervo for a sponsor?

  • 26 tequilamag // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:09 AM

That would be living the dream Ibiza

  • 27 jesperfuglsang // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:12 AM

Ibiza…now I have to throw the Rhum card if we are going to be sponsored by any kind of alcohol 😉 lol

  • 28 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 2, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Jesper…Or Rum? New thread mate 😉

  • 29 Ed Harrison // Oct 2, 2012 at 12:19 PM

Yes – I see the man United game is at home – silly me – hey we have a chance of all 3 points!
