The Mag and Mark Jensen have had a Canal+ interview with Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye translated from the French, and Yohan has revealed that he had an offer to join Tottenham in the summer to replace Luka Modric, who went to Real Madrid, but he turned it down and preferred to stay at Newcastle – good for him – in fact great for him.
Yohan Cabaye – preferred to stay at Newcastle
When Yohan Cabaye first arrived at Newcastle last summer, and it was a huge coup for us to get such a talented player for just €5M, he said he also had offers from Spain, but wanted to play in the Premier League, which he thought was the best league in the world – he’s right there.
This is what Yohan told Canal+:
“For me the Premier League is the best league in the world, you have to work twice as hard and we know about the high tempo in every match. This is what attracted me and I will develop physically.”
And his manager at Lille, Rudi Garcia, thinks that Yohan is now a much better player than he was while at the French club, with his extra conditioning and playing against top sides every weekend – and of course the games are being broadcast live around the world, and seem to be catching on even over here in the US.
This is what Rudi Garcia said:
“A year on Cabaye is stronger, he has reached maturity, he is a complete player, he can do everything and he can play in the midfield of all top teams in the world”
We heard from Newcastle manager Alan Pardew in early September that a number of Newcastle stars had been tempted away by big clubs in August, and it was thought that Yohan Cabaye was one of them, and it seems it was Tottenham who came in for Yohan – but he turned them down.
This is what Yohan had to say about that:
“The offer from Tottenham was to replace Modric.” “If I had wanted to leave I would have; I have not left, I was not meant to leave as I am still here and I hope a lot of good things will come out of it”.
Alan Pardew was then asked if his French International central midfielder could play for a top team, and the answer to that must have been obvious, after Yohan looked one of France’s best players in June during the Euro 2012 Championships in Poland and the Ukraine.
In any case, this is what Alan Pardew said:
“Could he play for a top team?-Yes, do I want him to go elsewhere? – NO”.
Cabaye’s fellow central midfielder at Newcastle, Cheick Tiote, also turned down a move to Chelsea, on the same day last year that Andy Carroll left for Liverpool, so it’s always good to have players on Tyneside who want to play for Newcastle United – very good in fact.
We can mark down Yohan Cabaye now as one of those players, and he will have endeared himself to the hearts of Newcastle fans everywhere, by the decision he made in the summer – to stay on Tyneside.
It’s great to (still) have Yohan Cabaye at Newcastle.

Comment #84Benny has got the talent to walk into any team in the world imo. I think if he was with Barca for instance he would have so much freedom and just rip teams to shreds more than he does with us. Teams seem to single him out for us and close him down with 2 or 3 bodies quickly because they know that the majority of our team cannot create anything so can afford to overload on benny. We are missing the cabaye of old badly.

Comment #91Lads we all have to remember that we are being run as a business and sooner or later players will leave our club for pastures new, obviously there will be an outcry from a lot of supporters but you cant run a football club just buying players.
Its like at arsenal they will get 4/5/6 years out of their top players before they move on with the exeption of Nasri who saw the big pound signs at city.
And as i have mentioned beforethey play the best footie outside of Barca and have won everythin but the champs league and they got to the final of that. a system that does work, we have just got to be prepared if any of our blue chip players go in a season or two. I am.

Comment #93Beefman…..But we’re Newcastle United! I’m on board with what you’re saying, it is part of football, especially the business side of it. I fail to see what Newcastle fans objections are to the Arsenal model. Granted after 5+ years of being close and not winning it may get frustrating, but we’re not even close to that yet.
Every fan wants their club to be best and win things. Would we rather one trophy now and then nothing for another 40 odd years or to re-build and push on for the future with a view to bringing in many trophies?
Once again, I suppose it comes down to what you believe and whether you have time on your side.

Comment #94nufc786 – you need any help mate, the blog seems to not be responding to your killing power – the force is strong with this one.
beefman – it helps to be healthily realistic about our stars moving on, they always have, always will. The only chance we have of keeping this crew together for a long time is if we get quality players to make us competitive in our own right, and thus stop the heads turning. I do take on board that we should have signed some more quality established players to make a difference this year instead of the next, its ok saying we have depth coming through but will the lads pushing their latter 20’s wait around for that?

Comment #96Three blog killers present….this could get messy.
Even if we had more quality at the squad, there will always be bigger teams, or teams with greater history (of winning) and able to offer more money. This will turn heads.
It is also clear within our model, that we will buy cheap, promote players, then sell them for an increased fee. So it has to be accepted. As long as we keep finding the right players (yes I know we didn’t bring in what was perceived as enough players in the summer, but the recruitment the past two years has been brilliant overall) then we should stay in and around top 7.
Unless someone buys the club and wants to pump money in, that is the best we can hope for, isn’t it? With the possibilities of ffp rules coming in, that scenario is looking less likely now and if so, we must be set up well. I do question whether I have been duped by Ashley and Llambias and whether I’ve been blinded by my love for NUFC, I just don’t see it.

Comment #101Although I do hate it when negative blasts are opportunistically spewed onto the blog when performances are poor, I do respect the opinion of those who have a coloured view of the NUFC setup as-is as long as they have a rationale behind it. I am always prepared to have my eyes opened to Mike and Del pulling another SDA Arena gag on us at any time. I ride the euphoric wave of seeming soundness of tactic business wise, but I am always prepared to be knocked off my cloud. It wouldn’t take much.

Comment #109IMO we should never ever lose a player to Tottenham, they are a lesser club than us, it is a non story, Cabaye shouldnt entertain the thought of leaving an emotional experience such as playing for the Toon to a club that is currently 3rd best in London.
In business terms if we are currently turning over less cash than Spuds this needs to be addresses as clearly we are a better club with a considerable bigger support, moving from here to Spurs is stupid, unless of course your missus fancies living in London.
A non Story really. If cabaye did leave us for anyone barring Man Utd, City or Chelsea he deserves massive pelters when he returns.
And i have to say, why do people think this blog is for making friends and talking like loners, stay on topic, its a football blog boys.

Comment #112Carrying…Was only playing with you, honest. Like the site mate, just been reading the “About this blog” section. I will do my best not to loiter your site with my ramblings and keep it free for the mature, intellectual people (once again playing, I will be all over that like a dirty shirt 😉 )
Interesting fact about Bordeaux’s ever growing defeats on English soil (hope you don’t mind me stealing your good point and discussing it on here – I appreciate that probably wasn’t the aim, but seeing as we’re here). A 5-0 smashing is what we all need (of the other team, of course).
It will be a tough game, that’s for sure. But we are at home and should really be taking all the points here if we want to progress. What do you think Pardew will do with his team selection? As there is no travel do you think we’ll see a stronger team put out?

I admit HBA is a worry for me. He’s really starting to prove his abilities and is becoming a top player in europe. I mean he went from 79 to 84 in FIFA 13 ffs 🙂
Anyways the bigger clubs are going to start targeting him, including deals we don’t hear about in real time like this one with Cabaye.
Hopefully we progress and bolster so we can keep our talent here. Stagnation would be the worst case for keeping players like HBA and Cabaye who have an intense hunger to win and are getting offers from bigger clubs.
