Cabaye And Simpson Start – Ba And Ben Arfa On Bench

As expected Yohan Cabaye and Danny Simpson return to the Newcastle team for tonight’s Europa League Group D game at home, against a strong Bordeaux side.

Alan Pardew has made seven changes to the side that drew with Reading 2-2 on Sunday, and in come Danny Simpson, Rob Elliot, Shane Ferguson, Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye, Shola Ameobi and Gabby Obertan.

Papiss Cisse starts up front with Shola, and Ben Arfa and Demba Ba are on the bench, in case they are needed in this game.

Also on the bench are Steve Harper, Davide Santon, Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling and Sammy Ameobi.

Newcastle definitely need a win tonight.

Howay The Lads!!

    fromt last thread:

which one of papis or shola will be out wide then? Seems strange to not put a natural winger there. neither cisse or shola are gonna wanna be out on the wing

I think it’ll be Anita at left back, fergie left, obertan right and shola and cisse up top in a standard 4-4-2

    That’s a strong looking side.

    Now for criticism!
Obertan should be sold to a charity shop
Williamson and Simpson, Kets has just jumped off the queen Alexandria bridge (he’s mackem…)
Anita tiote and cabaye, what kind of second string crap is this!
    We were promised mediocrity dammit!

magpies til death – last thread

i really hope it’s not 4312. with these players it’s just way too narrow. it’d essentially be 42112. i don’t think anyone could believe our width is coming from simmo on the right?

has to be a 433, tiote and anita FINALLY playing behind cabaye. just wish fergie would be pushed up to LW with santon behind him, or some variation involving a real winger

either way, hope the final third and our inability to incorporate midfield into the attack is not our undoing yet again.

    hoping for 2-1

I would rather have a plant pot in defense than mike williamson, he does seem to be good at heading upfront though

If the official sit says 4-3-3, I don’t see why they would lie?

I wouldn’t even mind a 4-4-2 if we had Fergy/Sammy/Obertan on the wings. But it simply does not work with Jonas there.

Obertan has some good things about him. If he does well this season we should keep him on.

We are going to concede a few tonight with Williamson and Simpson playing.

Looking forward to watching Shane Ferguson again.

Looking forward to seeing Ferguson play LB. I’ve always felt he was the 2nd best LB on the team and potentially could challenge Santon for the spot.

He has the instincts of a defender. Might need a steak and protein shake diet though.

    definitely agree with everyone

very excited to see fergie play again. he’s had two years of progression since he impressed us at the end of pardew’s first few months.

still amazes me how little he is! could care less though as long as he keeps showing up our other, more ‘senior’ wingers

We look very strong everywhere except defence, Midfield in particular will be very strong, if Obertan plays at his absolute best we have a good chance, his performance could be the difference.

Being tied to a bed of nails by Derek before Ashley sits on his face pulling his pubes out with tweezers is too good for JFA.

I get the impression that the away trips will be undertaken by our kids & reserves. Not really up for travelling to France to watch our kids get battered by Bordeaux. Imagine a lot feel the same.

buzzing to see fergie playing but gutted its at left back. I’m sure he’ll do well either way. The kid really does show sparks of genius sometimes.

Fingers crossed cisse finds his shooting boots tonight too

gotta think though, it’s going to be one of our last group games, and if we don’t get a win tonight it’ll probably still be tight by that time, if we haven’t dropped out of contention yet

Think this starting 11 shows real intent from Pards, in Pardew we trust and this is why!! Key players for Sunday benched, only shock inclusion for me is Tiote tbh, didnt think he’d be risked but fair play!!
