  When I say Shola was Lazy I mean you could see he wasnt giving it 100% tonight.

  There’s no doubting his hold up play. But He was often fed balls that he didnt seem to want to get on the end of.

  He needs to try and shoot more.

  I dont think Cisse was ineffective. it was nice to see him display some hold up play and even take some players on. I just think that Shola would’ve been better suited to the wing and Cisse couldve done more damage in the middle.

  how long have you been watching newcastle? shola’s game hasn’t evolved in the 50 or so years he’s been here. he is what he is and what he is (i’ve had years to come to terms too) is not that bad.

  would i prefer a better 3rd striker? of course. but most teams don’t have a 3rd striker near as reliable or apt to change a game as he is

  Shola is a big guy and he takes a lot of abuse from opposition defenders he also has to measure his effort out over the time he is going to be on the park.

  What I mean by that is, if AP says to him I want 30-40 mins of high intensity out of you then Shola knows he is there to soften up the opposition and then be subbed so he will put himself about and abuse the opposition.

  If there is no specific request from AP then Shola will assume he is on for the duration and has to meter out his effort to suit. As for stretching for balls that are close but not that close, lots of players have been subbed out the game over stretching for a ball and tearing something, you go for what you know you can get to and leave the rest to be recovered when you’re in a better position to do so.

  I used to play basketball and that game has a saying and it is “reward the big man when he runs” as they are well aware of what it takes to push a big body around. I am an old man now and well over six foot and just shy of seventeen stone, I was never as fast as the players I played against but I was often still on the court when they were being subbed off for a rest.

  As I posted earlier I would love to see you and the likes of brutoool take ten mins of the physical abuse Shloa takes and still be able to walk let alone run.

  i think this season we haven’t played that well but the massive plus n i mean massive, we’ve played alot of player’s n some out of position n still got results!
  to me this says where building a great squad n really moving forward!
  pappis with a great finish but school boy errors on the offside
  obertan i said ages ago he’d be better on the left and he certainly proved it 2nite
  shola defo 1 of the best hold up players (i’m gonna say it!) in the league his touch is amazin n his presence is also second 2 none.

  On the subject of laziness, I was starting to get fed up with Cisse’s positional recklessness 2nd half, Absolutely no eye on their line and getting caught standing not running onside. A bit disappointing to see that. He would have had two good runs on goal at least but for that.

  I think the way Ferguson picks a pass is encouraging for his presence in the team, but it will be as a winger, not fullback. He’s not filling out, and his positional play is a bit casual, but going forward, hes a different player

  It was a pleasure to watch Shola tonight in my mind there are very few players in the prem that have the strength of Shola he has one and two players pulling at him another trying to get at the ball and he still manages to hold them off and lay the ball off.

  He may not be the most nimble or the most agile he also has a laconic style about his movement which to some (the blind and the bigoted) only see as lazy. In the second half after more than sixty6 mins of battle, to watch him run past defenders and they just resort to pulling him down to stop him I can only watch in admiration.

  To the doubters I can only think you are average or below average height and size as anyone who would be considered big would appreciate just how skilled the big lad really is.

  soz matty but i disagree willo’s been decent all year at worst!, let’s face it our first choice CB’s haven’t been available often enough for along time n willo’s been part of the very succesfull team that we’ve produced!?

  We’ll get another 3 seasons out of Shola at that level or better. He really has stuck at it and learned, dare I say mastered, his craft. Truly great, his maturity as a player is one of the real highlights of our resurrection over the last few years.

  I have utmost respect for the big man, if I were to have a complaint then it has to be he is not greedy enough for an out and out striker.

  He is in many ways like Emil he will graft his heart out to get a win for the team he beats the opposition defences to pulp and then lays it on a platter for the others to put away.

  When the shit is flying around Shola can normally be found in the middle of it and not shirking any of it.

  I think the problems arise when people say things like “willo is poor in my opinion” which yes you are entitled your opinion but it is such a poor destructive negative comment.

  I think he is a perfectly adequate cb, yes he has his limitations but he perfectly adequate. My validation for such an opinion is he was a very prominent member of a team that attained 5th last season so was not poor.

  Is he as good as Ferdinand no I would not claim that but did he cost almost £30 mil NO is he costing around £150,000 a week in wages NO so how do you come up with poor?

  I just find it sad when posters come out with this players shit that players shit with no other reasons why they come to that conclusion.

  I just think it shows them to be right dumb f**ks who really can’t form a rational opinion by themselves.

  Williamson cost what? A mil he has made a huge step up in class of play he is at and appears to be making steady progress, I also think he is aware that he will be a squad player when an upgrade is found and brought into the club, on the other hand he may step up his game a little more and be challenger for the spot, I hope it is the latter.

  So Williamson is poor compared to what???

  also i said the other night wat really gets my goat is people sayin younger players “just are’nt good enough!” i’ve heard it for vuckic’gosling (which imo has played very well every time i’ve seen him up n down the pitch apart from his finishin but he’s been in the right positions)and ober unbelievable really!

  To a degree I can understand some of it, if you think the worst and it happens then you are not too disappointed and anything better than disaster is a bonus.

  Over the season they will be right or close to it at times when we get it completely wrong and get humped and they will be all over the blog like a rash boasting how right they were.

  Like last season we did astonishingly well, but they still come on here bleating about the big loses we suffered or the fact we never really humped anyone so although we did well we also did very poorly hence justifying their complaints.

  I am not saying they are not fans or followers of the team but I do doubt their claim to be SUPPORTERS as to me there is a difference between the terms.

  I recon a lot of these complainers are in the five to ten thousand that stopped turning up for games when we were in the fizzy i stand to be corrected but that is my opinion.

  The Bourne film is just finishing so time for me to go for the night.

  @cupidstunt – see what you’re saying with Willo and I agree, hes not a poor player, he’d be a very decent centre half for a lower had team, the problem we have is that he isn’t good with the ball at his feet. Because of that, alot of the time he hits the long ball and as our centre backs have a lot of the ball this can often dictate our play and miss out our midfield which is probably our strongest area! It is however unfair to give Willo stick, he gives 100% every game, rarely see him have a stinker either, hes a solid, 6 out of 10 player! In an ideal world we would have signed a centre back and Willo would be a very capable 4th choice;

  Great job by the team especially young Fergie, 3 games 3 assists.
  That’s how good the team is when they are not in stupid 4-4-2 mode and no silly long balls from the back all the time.
  And it is not our strongest line up
  AP finally changed his mind, he set up a tactic to the strength of his players.
