We understand why Alan Pardew plays a second eleven in the Europa league games this season, because our squad is still far too small, and top players cannot play two games a week and all of that good stuff, but we are jeopardizing our chances of qualifying from the group stages of the competition – that’s a concern.
The good news is that both Yohan Cabaye and Danny Simpson will be in the side tonight, and there’s quite some competition going on between the fringe players and the youngsters at the club, for a starting position tonight.
We expect Rob Elliot to get his very first game at St. James’ Park, after two good performances in the last couple of weeks, and we think James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic are also likely to start the important game tonight.
And after Shane Ferguson’s’ excellent two sub appearances in the last two games, he should get a start out on the left wing tonight.
Here’s the side we think Alan could put out tonight:
Elliot
Simpson Williamson Perch Tavernier
Obertan Cabaye Anita Ferguson
Aleobi (Sh) Vuckic
Subs: Harper Bigirimana Marveaux Ameobi (Sa) Gosling Cisse
Pardew could probably find a starting position somewhere for Dan Gosling, who’s now looking a decent player at the club, although he missed a couple of good chances at Old Trafford last Wednesday night.
Hatem Ben Arfa is now available to play in Europe, having served a three-game European ban, and he may even be on the bench tonight, although we think Alan Pardew will give opportunities to other fringe players against Bordeaux.
But we do expect Papiss Cisse to possibly be on the bench, and to make an appearance in the second half, as he needs to score some goals, and tonight’s a decent opportunity for the Senegal man to get a goal, as he did last week at Old Trafford.
This is Newcastle’s 124th game in European competition and we’ve won 70 and lost only 29, and the club has a good record in Europe – and in fact Newcastle are currently on a 19-game unbeaten run at home in European games, with our last defeat on Tyneside being against Monaco way back in 1997.
Let’s hope that record is not broken tonight.
We really do need the win tonight, and a draw will not really be good enough and that would leave Bordeaux still two points clear of Newcastle at the top of group D.
If we are to progress in the Europa League and out of the group stage, then we probably need the win tonight.
What do you think?

The conspiracy thing was just a quip as the feeling in the second part of your post leant that way.
“Cabaye says one thing and Pardew says another–they both surely cannot be right”
When there are many more ways for them to be innocently right and your innuendo wrong.
“Having the press officer blocking attempts to find out more from Cabaye does fuel the suspicion”
Only if you have a suspicious nature
To be honest I have seen loads of press conferences like that and never gave a second thought to it obviously I am not suspicious enough.
“I think it puts in doubt what Pardew states in the future”
Even though it could well be Cabaye that got it wrong, you think it only lays doubt at AP’s door. WHY?
You are looking more and more like a card holding member of the area 51 fan club. 😉

Did you know area 51 used to be open to the public until a fateful day when kets when there on a school trip, they immidiatly closed the surrounding area and have held him captive ever since to learn from him as he has the answers to save humanity!

Comment #95Tads….I didn’t know that, but have been convinced something of great importance was going on. It all makes sense now. Let’s hope he has a breakthrough soon. Perhaps he should spend less time on Newcastle though, unless the key to save humanity starts with Newcastle.
Ponder on this I shall.

Seen it happen son seen it happen.
A girl (insert mature woman) I was going out with for a while had a nephew that played for Linlithgow Rose (a very successful and respected junior club) and I think all the Scottish national youth teams up until 15-16 then buckfast and street corners put an end to him.
Was far more interested in buckie and hanging with his “homies” so the football went out the window sad waste.

Nope but a very good friend of mine went to vegas for honeymoon and as he is a card carrying conspiracy theorist he had to hire a car and drive there.
His story of some way down this dusty road, big fence, sign with “permitted use of deadly force” coupled with a four wheel drive with blacked out windows up on the sky line following them made his mind up for him to go back to the hotel.
As I say I’m not suspicious enough to bother about it, (just for Jespers benefit) I cba.
I got far too many other things going on in my life to bother trying to show the world how clever I am by deciphering what was not said. 😉
Although that being said I would probably give it a look if I were within quick drive distance of it.

Comment #112Hope Sammi and Fergy get a chance to press their claims tonight, i think it should be their turn, Gosling and Vuckic have had enough for me. Need a spell on the bench.
Team expected though
Elliot
Simposn Willo Perch Fergy
Obertoon Anita Bigi Sammi
Cabaye
Cisse
Would be pretty pleased with that, however expect to see Vuckic and Gosling appear on the teamsheet unfortunately. Personally think that the team above is more effective than our current 1st team, who currently function terribly.
We have width pace and guile in the midfield, good for Europa league for sure.

That’s the very stuff.
The stuff of legend north of the border, it is a fortified wine by all accounts, made by the monks at Buckfast abbey, and the curse of the youth of Scotland.
There was a time in Scotland when the street corner youth were giving each other free cosmetic surgery every weekend so the monks were approached and asked to change the bottle from glass to another less offensive (when smashed on something hard then pushed into your face) substance like plastic types.
To which the monks in their infinite Christian wisdom declined and continued to produce their devilish brew and distribute it in the innocent looking weapon called the glass bottle.
