Nice win, but a bit boring game!

…anyway I did have much sound so can anyone explain why we changed keeper at half time?

  • 2 jesperfuglsang // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:08 PM

    *did =didn’t

  • 3 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:09 PM

ToonDownSouth – who on earth said that???? (about Krul’s distribution)

  • 4 Burni // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:09 PM

    Easily oba.

I thought it was an entertaining game. And as we tanked em in the second half there was nowt they could do

    Bless em

  • 5 toonking // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:09 PM

well the match tonight was so good and should give us the boost we need in the league this season
my MOTM ferguson who and now i think pardew has got to allow him to start games in the league .

  • 6 Burni // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:10 PM

    Probably kets gonufc

  • 7 bollance // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:10 PM

    Must be an injury

  • 8 steveno7 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:11 PM

    Elliot has a groib injury

  • 9 bollance // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:12 PM

Can’t decide on motm as we had lots of good performances

  • 10 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Oh no not his Groib! Hardly anyone gets that injury.

  • 11 Peter Beardsley // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Stop your hating and start supporting!!

Give a guy a little time and SUPPORT! and he will control a football beautifully from a lofted pass, run like Forest down the flank beating three players and play sexy cross into the path Ameobi for a goal!!

    Obertan MOTM?

  • 12 Marty-Toon // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:13 PM

he seemingøy pulled up on a clearance.
Thigh muscle/groin or hamstring ,maybe just precautionary

  • 13 Marty-Toon // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Them Groibs are an awful thing 😉

  • 14 check the toastie // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:14 PM

The unfortunate thing about players playing well tonight, is that Pardew will continue to play 442 with Jonas down the left hand side, that selection is destroying our football in the 1st team currently.

  • 15 89Norcal // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Obertan for me, hopefully he can translate those performances into the EPL.

Overall a decent performance from us against a good side. The timing of the goals was huge mentally and hurt Bordeaux

  • 16 jesperfuglsang // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Hope it is not too serious! (knock on wood)

…we came through this game unscathed besides Elliott, which is good 🙂 and there were some great moments (and some very doll).

…we do look much better for the most parts playing 4-3-3 (Cisse surprised me on the right; he did really great)

  • 17 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:15 PM

    steven07 – heres a 🙂 so you know I wasnt being mean.

  • 18 darrenfletcher88 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Great win,I take my words back about pardews team selection, tonight it was spot on, ferguson and obertan was men of the match!!!

  • 19 Marty-Toon // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Very good team performance….well done the Toon

  • 20 Big Pappa Cissé // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:16 PM

Jesus NO, not the dreaded Groib 🙂

  • 21 hotdog // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:16 PM

Fergie reminds me of silky sellars – great balance and wicked left peg.

  • 22 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:16 PM

A girl once touched my groib.

    It was truly disgusting.

  • 23 jesperfuglsang // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:16 PM

Marty…don’t go danish or Norwegian an that keyboard 😉 lol

  • 24 jesperfuglsang // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:17 PM

    *an = on

  • 25 gaza25 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:17 PM

did anyonelses heart go in there mouth wen tiote was down as he played his great usual game?

  • 26 toonking // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:17 PM

the one thing that this result will do with me is on sunday i will not be angry if we loose to manure because today pardew has started 4 possibly even 6 players depending on weather colo and saylor are fit) who would also start manure on saturday.

  • 27 Jonny // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:17 PM

Ferguson, hands down. Top class effort.

  • 28 dmac // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:17 PM

I thought the team played well as a unit. Anita had a good game in mid wish he had scored his opportunity! Motm for me was Fergie, he is still young and is looking class.

  • 29 Big Pappa Cissé // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:18 PM

    @ check

  • 30 GeordieGeorge // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:18 PM

Shola for me followed by obertan, I think I would have put obertan first but he has one big touch on him which often leaves to him running the ball out of play

  • 31 Blaydon-Toon // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:20 PM

Pissed off as missed the first half and then found out my missus forgot to record game … Now she has gone off in a huff so think the sofa is all mine

  • 32 ToonDownSouth // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:21 PM

So we win 3-0 against a team in amazing form, and there’s an abundance of people on here slagging Pardew off?

Oh yes. Now I remember why I rarely post anymore. I’m glad some of you enjoyed the match, at least.

gonufc – toonbrother said it. He also said that I was ‘so fickle it’s disgusting’ for suggesting otherwise. Mental.

  • 33 lukes26 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Obertan. He was aggressive for a change.

Ferguson and Ameobi a close 2nd for me. Ameobi won every ball that came his way, Ferguson could steal Santon’s spot if his good form continues.

Of course Cisse’s goal was offsides, he’s been offsides all season.

Most one-sided game I’ve seen for a while. I forgotten how boring games are when your team has more than 2 goal advantage.

  • 34 Mac // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Obertan was the best player by a country mile. However Fergson looked superb. Cabaye has been a massive miss. If we can get Colo and passibly Saylor for Sunday man u are there for the taking

  • 35 ToonDownSouth // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Also, Elliott was top drawer in the first half. If he’d played 90 and kept a clean sheet, he’d have been my MotM.

  • 36 toonking // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:25 PM

so people are still slagging off pardew even after a win

  • 37 mattyNUFC // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:25 PM

    just some comic relief

5 weirdest penalties and 20 comedy moments from football. the third penalty is hilarious

  • 38 Blaydon-Toon // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:25 PM

On the plus side good result and very comfortable …. Impressed with Ferguson Oba and Shola … Simpson solid first game back and an assist for all u haters !

  • 39 gaza25 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:25 PM

as soon as we got 3 goals we went into barca mode for a while that was awesome to watch

  • 40 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:27 PM

Agreed elliot had a good game but tbf far so did harps atleast its good to know were well stocked with top goalies!!
And yeah its stupid to be slagging pards after a win especially one we dominated

  • 41 jawballsaswallwell // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:31 PM

Shola should be given a regional knighthood.

  • 42 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:31 PM

Who’s slagging off the silver supremo? name and shame! How can you criticise after a win? I dont get it – are we talking about what might have happened if we weren’t so consistently lucky again?

  • 43 hotdog // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:33 PM

Its a tricky one but i would go for this team v manure

    Simmo Perch Williamson Santon
    Guti Cabaye Check Ferguson

  • 44 geordie157 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:33 PM

Obertan and fergs must be pushing for starts

  • 45 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:34 PM

Just seen the highlights, why was Elliott subbed off?

  • 46 hotdog // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:35 PM

Assuming Taylor and colo are still crocked

  • 47 cupiddstunt // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:37 PM

brutoool still waiting to read the Shola compliments

  • 48 santonthenewmaldini // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:37 PM

Well it looks like playing the fringe players is really starting to pay off Obertan and Ferguson are getting better every game would like to see Fergie get a shot at Left Back and Santon move to Right back the shackles are finally coming off!!

Ferguson has now set up 3 goals in 3 games with a peach of a cross in each match!! if he can provide one of them a game Cisse or Ba will gobble them up would have been a good game to bring on Vuckic as well but Elliot’s injury meant we could only bring on 2 outfield subs

Our defense was solid as well they never really got a sniff even Simpson got an assist!!

Finally got to see our 1st choice midfield together although Jonas has been a great servant he needs to spend time on the bench as yes he works hard but so did the rest of the team tonight even Obertan looks more of a threat!!

Man united’s backline is probably going to be Carrick, Evra, Ferdinand and the right back who played against us in the cup we should go all out pace with Arfa Ba and Obertan and take them would love it if we beat them LOVE IT!

  • 49 jawballsaswallwell // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:37 PM

Quietly breathing into a bag to stop myself from getting too excited about our prospects, I am very happy!

  • 50 ppb // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:40 PM

@cupid brutoon actually said shola did well. 2 threads ago i think

  • 51 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:40 PM

gonufc – if you read earlier comments he had a bit of a problem with his groib. 🙂 Hope it gets better soon.

  • 52 breno95 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Alot of people with their black and White glasses on re some comments being posted.
Yes we won but the opposition stopped playing after 50 mins but you cam only beat what’s in front of you so a wins a win and we now top the group.
Bigger test Sunday and it’s against opposition like man Utd where players such as Obertan need to show up.

  • 53 lukes26 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:46 PM

Are we sure that was Bordeaux, France we were playing ..and not Bordeaux, Estonia?

  • 54 ppb // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:46 PM

    @santon i wanna see
    simmo Colo Taylor santon

    or 4-4-2 same back 5
    Ben arfa cabaye tiote fergie
    ——–cisse ——–ba

  • 55 BelfastMagpie // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:47 PM

    Ferguson for me.

More assists in 3 games, than Jonas will get all season.

    Must start on sunday(left wing)

  • 56 hotdog // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:48 PM

breno95 – There was a reason they stopped playing, we were beating them 3-0 and they couldnt get the ball off Bigi and anita.

Anyhooo im off to bed – just take my balack and white specs off ffs

  • 57 jawballsaswallwell // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Yeah, Man U are vulnerable right now, one of the best attacks I’ve ever seen, but their defence is shaky and we’ve got em at St James’.

Definitely a case for Oba to start and Jonas to come on off the bench if needed.

  • 58 ppb // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:50 PM

i like to sit somewhere between breno and hotdog. bordeaux weren’t great and man u are a bigger challenge. but we played class and got a decisive victory

  • 59 jeff // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:51 PM

im positive this is our best possible team:

    simpson colo taylor santon

perhaps perch against smaller more technical strikers – i just see saylor getting turned by aguero and friends too easily

  • 60 Blaydon-Toon // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:52 PM

I need my black and white glasses to read 🙂

  • 61 ppb // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:52 PM

ooh or obertan on the left. pumped up against a manager he needs to prove wrong

  • 62 jeff // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:52 PM

oh colo and taylor on different sides of def

@Jeff a constructive post. nice team. similar to mine
    @cupid i was shocked

  • 65 ppb // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:55 PM

@Jeff i put Colo and saylor wrong way too

  • 66 LGFUAD21 // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Boring game. No stand out players.

    Obertan had his moments.

Ferguson is coming along nicely. Got some pace. Good cross on him.

Simmo looked alright for a guy off pace from injury. Im one of the few glad to have him back. Solid defender.

    Shola was LAZY as hell.

Cisse was lively, feel he was wasted on the wing though. Excellent knock downs. If he could play like that with Ba that’d be good.

Cabaye was energetic. Always had the feel he could create or score.

    Tiote bullied.

Perch flew in with some tackles.

Good win. Good three points. Comfortable but unexciting. Now worried that we may get lazy because that did seem like a stroll in the park

  • 67 cupiddstunt // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:57 PM

    Ppb @ # 50

Your right there but “amiobi did well” hardly makes up for all the graphic shite he has come out with about Shola.

And I don’t think it comes close to describing Shola tonight.

  • 68 ppb // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:59 PM

@cupid it was a gesture from brutoon. we are making progress with his treatment

  • 69 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 10:59 PM

    Ketsy said before the match:-

Obertan has some good things about him. If he does well this season we should keep him on.

We are going to concede a few tonight with Williamson and Simpson playing.

Looking forward to watching Shane Ferguson again.

Got to hand it to the lad, 2 out of 3 has to be a record. Or he’s slacking, depending on whether you think he’s a pro WUM or a nutcase.

  • 70 cupiddstunt // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:02 PM

    breno95 @ # 52

It’s really amazing how some folks can still find the negative after a commanding performance over a team that is well in form and had apparently not lost in 17 games before tonight.

They effectively “stopped playing after 50mins” as they had no answer what so ever for what we put in front of them.

You glass half empty folks why do you bother breathing???????

  • 71 gaza25 // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:04 PM

@70 they only stopped after 50 mins cos we outclassed them b4 hand

  • 72 santonthenewmaldini // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:07 PM

The 2nd half was a masterstroke in controlling the game Bordeux could not get the ball of us to get back into the game sort of strangled them a bit like Barca do although we have a while to go but if we can smash Man United on sunday and then pass them to death in the 2nd half that would be a laugh!!!

Dreamboat was playing some fantastic stuff i wonder what Arfa and Ba made of that team performance??

If we can beat Brugge in the next game we will be pretty much through to the next stage so we might see the likes of Campbell and Good get a few appearances the last few games!

  • 73 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:08 PM

cupid – its a bit irritating especially as it seems that same ones who criticise the blog for being populated by mugs and rose-tinted oops sorry Black & White glasses-wearing dupes when things are going less than well.

Even if we were a lacklustre bunch who were gifted the game by an even more tepid crew makes no odds at all – evidently our play, tactics and skill level surpassed theirs, remit accomplished, cheer the lads on. I am genuinely getting exhausted by the whingers, starting to remember how hacked off I could be at the glass completely empty crowd.

  • 74 gaza25 // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:08 PM

@72 sum one agrees with wat i said about barca style in 2nd half

  • 75 cupiddstunt // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:09 PM

    LGFUAD21 @ # 66

You wouldn’t last 10 mins taking the physical beating that Shola takes for 90 mins.

Any forwards that play like Shola take a massive physical beating every game every ball that is played to him he has defenders on his back pushing, pulling, kicking, gouging and the likes of you say he is lazy.

He was still sprinting past defenders well into the second half when the likes of you and brutoool would have been on your way home in tears.

Without a doubt you are without a clue you are in the same class as brutoool.

  • 76 WWYCD // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Decent match in which we dominated

Fergy looks good but still not a LB imo, Harps/Elliot played well, Cabs looked to be back and Cisse got a dodgy goal so not bad.

Tiote needs to cut out his daft passes and go back to how he used to be though and I barely noticed Anita was on the pitch for most of the game (of course not always a bad thing)

Obertan would probably be my man of the match though whether his form will last is very much up for debate

Oh and am very glad Simmo is back fit

  • 77 mattyNUFC // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:16 PM

can i put on record your calling for the deaths of all who dare critique any facet of tonight?? kidding, but only half…

the way we were set up from the off is the best way to go. i’m sorry but pards infuriates me. tiote and anita at CDM, cabaye in front and you can’t go wrong. why switch it when it was working so well?

    and breno LGUAFD or whatever,

how can you say cisse out on the wing was ineffective? I thought it was bad tactics before the game but he did more out there in 30 minutes than he did for the rest of the match up top.

shola, god as much as i hated seeing him over the past few seasons, he sure can hold up play like no other. one second he’ll be holding off three players with the ball between his feet but then he’ll be by himself and trip over the ball. oh well, great performance though.

anita, tiote, oba and fergie the standouts for me. perch was solid as a rock and i still think willo is second rate at best.

what do you guys think the odds are of us lining up against manu similar to last year with shola and ba? whatever it is, i just hope to god it’s 433. this would be my line-up if it were up to me

don’t change the formation to suit one player (ba). change the player’s roles based on merit. ba keeps scoring, he keeps getting the lone role. cisse starts scoring and ba drops off, ba goes out wide

  • 78 cupiddstunt // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:16 PM

I am going to lay myself open to be slaughtered here but to me the performance was spoilt a little by the way Tiote kept playing himself into trouble and losing the ball so easily, outside of that I thought it was a very professional performance indeed.

  • 79 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:17 PM

Yeah I was a bit taken aback by the Shola comment. I would have thought anyone who has tracked Shola’s career wouldn’t fall into the old ‘Shola is LAZY as hell’ trap. I only got to see the 2nd half, but I caught Shola keeping the ball in their box and holding off half a dozen players before successfully laying the ball off. He then did what the rest of the team did very well, and something I have wanted a Newcastle side to do for a long time, stroke the ball around and keep it.

  • 80 mattyNUFC // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:18 PM

    …anybody remember seeing gosling tonight?

no, me neither. *coughs* Abeid? …..

  • 81 tequilamag // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:20 PM

Tsunki just got back, great performance tonight everyone worked their arse off. Has Kets imploded yet?

  • 82 ToonDownSouth // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:20 PM

I’ve got to disagree there. I think switching at half time was completely the right decision.

The first half was so so so open – which is natural, because we don’t have the fullbacks to control the game in a 4-3-3 – I think switching to something more conservative at half time was possibly a good thing.

We didn’t control the game in the first half… They were peppering the goal for long periods, and putting on real real pressure at 1-0.

  • 83 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:21 PM

I agree that for some time now Tiote has cultivated the art of spinning around needlessly and pirouetting himself into blind alleys when he could have laid the simple ball off first time. His fannying around against norwich was cringeworthy. I need someone else to tell him to cut it out. I daren’t.

  • 84 mattyNUFC // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:22 PM

    to wrap up my thoughts

this was the first team we’ve played well since last year…and even then there weren’t too many times. if we can build on this passing, possession game, we could really get ourselves on the right track. some beautiful stuff that first half before bordeaux totally gave up. i hope it’s a long, long trip home for them and feel for their supporters who had to watch that sh*t for the final 40 minutes. really unbelievable the way they gave up

  • 85 hoppernufc // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:23 PM

Gosling isn’t good enough, he’s so slow and just chases shadows he has no quality or technical ability, yeah he puts a shift in but thats not good enough at this level,

  • 86 mattyNUFC // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:24 PM

half time, sure. we know how pards likes to protect even the most slender of leads…

but why switch it 25 minutes in? seemed strange and rather indicative of his allegiance to outdated 442 football. just my thoughts

  • 87 cupiddstunt // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:25 PM

    Tsunki @ # 79

The Shola comments really just show the commenter’s up for what they are thick, blind or just blindly bigoted.

As for the passing about controlling the game it was nice to see although I am not a great fan of time wasting and that is how it generally comes over too me, although I do understand eh tactic.

I will be more impressed when we are doing that under pressure from a team that really wanted the ball back, had there just been one goal in it I don’t think we would have been quite so composed.

But tonight we were dominant and that was good to see.

  • 88 Tsunki // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:27 PM

TDS – agreed. Its a thoroughly professional tactic to lock the game down, and its a necessary discipline for the unit to cultivate. I cant remember the last time we did that so effectively. I actually think its almost as good to see as bouncing them for 3 goals

  • 89 dave 1961 // Oct 4, 2012 at 11:56 PM

For me fergie is not a fringe player at all but a genuine candidate for a starter, we have options now, oba had his best game and first time on the left as well, would still quite like santon left back n fergie on the wing with him. thing is mr jonas will come straight back in the team and i have a feeling fergie will be used as a sub, shame for me that as he can make things happen. great result tonight against a full strength unbeaten for 6 month side!

Shola lazy? I’m sure the people who give him pelters run out if stuff to say. At the moment he doesn’t score a lot but in prem that’s not his job at the mo, but to call him lazy is just more wayward than kansas’s son.

dave1961, with respect, when you say obertan money well spent for once, was that tongue in cheek?

tiote, cabaye, benny, ba, cisse, marveaux, bigi, anita, santon, colo, jonas, willy, simmo.

not really a dud between them and we have had terrific value out of them for what we individualy paid for each one.

it was a wind up your previous post right?

dave1961, apologies for my previous post, i red it a bit quick, got the wrong meaning from what you were saying,

Av got to say though, that there have been plenty of great games at the toon, maybe not fab this season so far but we are still doing really well an will continue to do so, the ore has been missing for long periods, ee are still a handfull for any team, and one or two quality accuasitions in january and imo we will be right in the thick of it again, ps i think we will bring a couple in as s well!

    straight up.
fergie has been such GLORIOUS class for us.
everytime he has played, he has been a stud for us.
obertan showing us his chops too.
hopefully, marveaux can play some decently for us soon.
excited when fergie starts making 1st team appearances though. move aside jonas.
    haha, just kidding.

    but seriously.

I’d love to hear from the wankers that voted for Anita.

Lovely lad, but still clearly still adapting to life on Tyneside. Was easily the worst player in a Toon shirt last night.

I’m hopeful and confident that he will adjust to eventually justify those MOTM votes.
