In Memory Of One Of Our Readers – Jimmy Magpie

As our readers will now know, we have been saddened by the death of one of our most avid readers – who went by the name of Jimmy Magpie – and Jimmy was a regular contributor in the comments section of this blog.

This is the message that was posted a couple of hours ago by his family, and I want to share it to a wider audience:

“I have come on this blog to let regular posters know that the man you know as Jimmy Magpie passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday evening.”

“I and the rest of the family spent the last few hours with him, and he had the presence if mind to ask me to explain why their will be no more postings.”

“My uncle, who was also my best friend, was a lovely, generous, man who will be greatly missed by his large, loving family, and his wide circle of friends.”

“Legendary for his knowledge on the history and traditions of NUFC by all who knew him, he was well known at Benton behind the scenes by the medical staff in particular.”

“A gifted non-league footballer when he was younger, he also socialised with a handful of the current players who live in the neighbourhood. I will close in the way he would have approved.”

HOWAY THE LADS!

We respect the privacy and anonymity of Jimmy, and we are all very sad to hear of his death, and we pass on our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

We now hope the lads can get a win on Sunday against Manchester United – and we’re Jimmy will be watching from above.

Thanks, and rest in peace Jimmy.

Ed Harrison.

Sad news. RIP Jimmy. Always enjoyed his posts and insight. Certainly didn’t go unappreciated by me at least. A real loss to the blog but will always be remembered I’m sure.

A real “Gent”. Jimmy had some great insights and loved NUFC with a true passion. I enjoyed our “chats” – he will be missed by many on the blog.

RIP Jimmy, condolences to his family

I’ve read this blog for the last few years now, but I’ve only started commenting on it quite recently. I remember jimmymagpie’s name coming up and reading a lot that he had to say.

It’s great to see old commenters come and pay respects too and this blog has a remarkable community.

Thoughts are with the family, great tribute Ed.

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

    Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

    I am the master of my fate;

I am the captain of my soul.

    RIP
