Shane Ferguson had a good game against Bordeaux last night, and we think he will be putting pressure on 21 year-old Davide Santon for the left back starting position at the club, if he continues to shine like he has in the last three games for Newcastle.
Alan Pardew - looks like he was happy last night
Shane is second in our poll for Man of the Match behind Gabby Obertan, and he was cool and assured at the back for the Magpies, and he showed once again he put in some great left wing crosses, and this time Cisse was on the end of one, and he put it home in true striker style – all in one movement with his left foot.
Of course Shane is just as comfortable in the left wing spot, and he plays just as well there, and maybe that could be his best position, as he’ll get more opportunity to put those crosses in.
Ferguson said the lads were buzzing after the game, and it was probably Newcastle’s best performance of the season so far, and on a par with how the lads played most of last season.
This is what Shane told the local press today:
“It’s three in three and to be honest I don’t know what’s going on!” “But seriously I’ll just keep working hard in training each day and practising those sort of crosses.”
“I want to keep getting better at getting it in the right place. Papiss just got there at the right time.” “And it makes it so easy when you have Papiss and Shola waiting in there.”
“All of the lads were buzzing after the game because we knew we’d played so well.” “It was fantastic and everybody in the dressing room was buzzing.” “The football we played was fantastic and was a brilliant night to be part of.”
“We knew it was going to be a tough game but we came through with flying colours.” “Bordeaux are a very good side. Hopefully I will be involved again.” “I’d love to get that chance against Man United on Sunday.”
“It would be a dream come true for me and something I have dreamt about from a young age.” “The atmosphere against Bordeaux was brilliant and it will be again on Sunday.” “It was a good experience and now we will look to build on this against Man U.”
“I was talking to the manager before the game.” “It was great that he came last night and that I was able to put in a good performance in front of him.” “It shows him what I have got to offer.”
Three assists in three games is not too bad for any player, but that’s what Shane has done in his last three games, and in two of those games he came on as a substitute.
There’s no doubt that Shane will now be pushing for a starting position somewhere in the Newcastle line-up, and that can be at left back or on the left wing.
The 4 times capped Northern Ireland International should see a lot more playing time from now on, as he seems to be coming through big time at Newcastle.
That’s got to be good for the club.
