Alan Pardew was quite right in not saying which country he preferred to win the two-legged play-off tie this afternoon between Senegal and the Ivory Coast, which has just got underway.
Cheick Tiote – Ivory Coast’s top midfielder
Being the Newcastle manager it was right that he didn’t side with either team, but we have no such qualms, and therefore can come out and say we want the Ivory Coast to win.
And surely they must have a good chance after being 4-2 up from their home leg tie, but as Senegal captain Papiss Cisse rightly said today – anything can happen in football – and that means Senegal could still get through this tie – one way or another.
Why do we want the Ivory Coast to win?
Simply because if Senegal get through then Newcastle will be screwed, and we’ll lose our best two strikers for some time in January and maybe in February – so it’s purely for selfish Newcastle reasons.
It’s not rocket science really, and we have absolutely nothing against Senegal whatsoever, other than Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse – two fantastic strikers – play for them – and we just don’t want to lose them both to the African Cup of Nations, when we don’t have any suitable backups, other than Shola Ameobi.
That’s not true with Tiote, as young Gael Bigirimana or Vurnon Anita can come in and play defensive midfield while Cheick is away.
.So there you have it – some plain talk from a Newcastle fan – we hope the Ivory Coast win.
What do you think?

Ed, I think I speak for us all when i say we’d love to know what you’re opinion on the matter is
I agree, would rather lose Tiote than the two Demba’s. No disrespect to Senegal, but I don’t see the winning the tournament either, where as Ivory Coast do have a shot and Tiote could return with a winners medal and bring that to the team.

I guarantee that Sophie is niot 4 miles away unless she is a mermaid.
Pity I’ve missed the banter it looked almost interesting.

MFH….Sorry, what are you on about? Seems I’ve missed something too
4 Graeme // Oct 13, 2012 at 7:56 PM
The game is on the box here in Nigeria, still 0-0 I think

I’ve had Wanger, Winga, Charlie and the Lambs-arse chocolate factory, daft 40 year old singles adverts, some Ketamine addicted psycho with a messianic complex and a load of shite sprouting out of this blog either comments or mobile adverts for sites I’ve never accessed let alone googled,
I’m totally peed off with stupid commentaries for kiddy made products like replica shirts at £40 which is a 495% markup.
I want to read about football and not bloggers egos, or endless MA swipes. Forbes reckons he is worth £1.7billion so even the bed and breakfast provider is way out there.
Let’s not be under any illusion or half believe the apologists on here.
MA is not the best club owner on the planet or even in the EPL. He ain’t some Russian oligarch with cosy nostra affiliations but he is no angel..

“Ivory Coast’s Cheik Tiote a lucky man. The referee seemed to miss him lashing out at Papiss Cisse. Very lenient from the official Slim Jedidi. He just gets a warning”
Yikes
8 5Danny94 // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:11 PM
What’s this on the BBC about Tioté “lashing out” at Cissé? Having flashbacks to the Reading match when Tioté had a go at Tavernier. I hope there’s no serious consequences and the two guys can laugh it off. I’m probably reading too much in to it, but…

MFH….I’m lacking some sleep, so not completely following….
1) Ads – Do you use an adblocker? Made the blog a much happier place for me. I’m working on a SJP ad blocker as we speak.
2) Blog content – Sick of the rubbish and over analyzing? Want to get back to football talk? To some extent agree (if that is what you were saying), bring on the mackems I say.
3) MA – Are you saying he has his good and has his bad bits? No angel but no devil?
Once again, apologies, brain really not in gear.
10 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:17 PM
How far into the game is it? No timer on the stream I’m watching. I tried, but lost count.
Missed the Tiote vs Cisse incident. Anyone got any info?
11 Quasi.modo // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:18 PM
MFH
Sense anger on your part, following Newcastle United, especially reading this blog, can do that to you I suppose.
I don’t think there are too many Ashley “apologists”, rather there are people who tend to view his tenure much more positively than others, he has his many detractors, so why is it inconceivable that others would choose to think he is doing a good job especially considering the positive steps the club have made in the past few years?
12 Magpies-till-d3ath // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:20 PM
Guys don’t get worried! I’ve been watching the match, and it wasn’t Cisse he shoved, it was someone else! The only thing that happened between him and cisse is that tiote tapped him on the shoulder as if to say it wouldn’t happen again as Cisse is their captain! Btw. What are the chances that Ba can talk Sow into joining us? They are best friends after all……. or am I just being greedy!
13 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:22 PM
d3ath….And a sigh of relief was heard across Newcastle.
Is sow Purple?
14 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:23 PM
Just saw some of the replays…was that Cisse with that overhead shot?
15 Magpies-till-d3ath // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:23 PM
Ibiza- I’d say so.
16 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:23 PM
Then yes, you’re being greedy.
17 Magpies-till-d3ath // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:26 PM
It was sow with that overhead kick btw..
Imagine……
Krul
Debuchy Colo Saylor Santon
Tiote
Ben Arfa. Cabaye. Sow
Cisse. Ba
Oh s**t! I just woke up!!!!
18 MagpiesFlyHigh // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:26 PM
Quasi
MA – easy to be detached but he is more Alan Sugar than Bradley Hardacre.
Bed and Breakfast was right about the ego pumping too
19 Graeme // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:28 PM
Ibiza – we can paint him indigo, nobody would notice lol
20 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:29 PM
d3ath….Then yeah, he’s kinda purple. That team looks delightful.
21 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:32 PM
Graeme….As long as he’s willing to be paid like a…..Got to be honest, I don’t see talk of colours going down well. At some point it’s going to be worded badly or taken badly.
This system is a terrible idea. Can’t we just go back to great, good and cr*p?
22 mattyNUFC // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:32 PM
Ibiza
haha, good stuff
is ‘purple’ some term used in the UK i’m not aware of? all of this sounds more like a cop-out to not spend in January. Surely Guti can no longer be considered ‘purple’ but something tells me the board does not see it that way. Simmo surely cannot be a ‘purple’ (like him or otherwise) so, in essence we have 9 ‘purples’
23 MagpiesFlyHigh // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:38 PM
Matty
The lambs-arse use of the word refers to the link between purple and royalty..goes back to Roman times. Our purples are the ‘creme de la creme’. It is gobbledegook business speak from a guy with third rate abilities but top class pretensions.
Recall a very nice Chicago track called ‘South California Purples’ if you’re from that far west…
24 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:39 PM
Matty….I’ve heard the term “blue chip” being used to describe a first teamer, but this purple thing is new to me. Not sure I agree on the Jonas not being purple, he is somewhat starting to decline though. Well, maybe not decline yet, but facing that period it seems.
25 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:40 PM
Perhaps I’ll leave this one to MFH.
26 mattyNUFC // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:49 PM
thanks, MFH
yeah, here states-side it’s usually ‘blue chip’
on another, more promising note (dunno if you guys get it in the UK but if not you should check it out), The Walking Dead season 3 premiere tomorrow. One of the best story-lines i’ve ever seen unfold on TV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShQz68Zkb3Y
27 MagpiesFlyHigh // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:49 PM
Do purples fade to grey ?
Not sure but Guti is waning speedwise but not in terms of workrate. Not going to deliver the killer blow in many games though.
Ibiza
I prefer bluechip to the pretentious delboy chromatics too, though the capitalistic associations are very MA.
“blue chip is stock in a corporation with a national reputation for quality, reliability and the ability to operate profitably in good times and bad.”
…really good way of describing the human capital of a football team eh ?
28 obatoyou // Oct 13, 2012 at 8:53 PM
Ivory coast up 5-2 on aggregate, uphill climb for Senegal!
29 archaeomag // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:05 PM
No idea what the penalty was for . . .but that Tiote away for the Finals
30 archaeomag // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:07 PM
*that’s
31 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:08 PM
MFH…Oh yes, it’s a wonder to watch him revolutionise the beautiful game.
I think purple fades to an pink / white wash kind of colour.
Matty….Haven’t jumped into walking dead as of yet, but seems to be very popular in the UK.
32 bollance // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:10 PM
Foxworth posted a YouTube link to the ivory coast match. The fans have started a fire in the stadium put it on now!!

The cameras do not shy away from the Aggro . . .do their security men provide their own kit?
37 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:13 PM
MFH…..It has lost a big chunk of its magic. Sad. Seems to be a worldwide issue.
Right, I’m depressed enough.
Until next time, take care.
38 mattyNUFC // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:16 PM
b/t the togo bus attack, continual civil unrest and now this, the big question is, why in any club owners right mind would they allow their prize players to participate in this type of lunacy
39 bollance // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:17 PM
Now looks like a big fight??
Tiote must be furious!
40 mattyNUFC // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:17 PM
…and what neutral in their right mind doesnt honestly believe this doesn’t have the capability to spill over pitch into an all out war? these people are out of touch with every facet of reality
41 archaeomag // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:24 PM
So what happens next?
Just when it looked like ED had got his wish . . the curse of W@nga strikes!
42 Munster Mag // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:29 PM
Evening all. Where’s Beefie – boring the sh1t out of some poor misfortunates in the pub? Whats all this about us not having much money to spend? If I dont see some proper market action in January might I kindly suggest that the Mike Ashley Can Do No Wrong Ever club can admit to having their noses terminally jammed in the fat man’s arsehole? Purple players ? Purple bell end more like, the fat bastard and his rat faced assistant. Now where’s my drink? Drink feck arse girrrrls !!!!
43 WWYCD // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:29 PM
Just tuned into the qualifier to see soilders, cars and hundreds of people on the pitch….can one assume the sh*t hath hit-ith the fan?
44 Munster Mag // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:31 PM

(1)Tim Krul
(x)- (2)Colo-(3)Saylor-(4)Santon
(5)Ben Arfa. (6)Tiote (7)Cabaye (8)Jonas
(9)Cisse. (10)Ba
(x) Unproven yet to be consider 1st team
Vurnon Anita (have always said that he wanted to play in the middle of the park) So..who’s going to filled the RB….Simpson?
*If Simpson is gone, with Jonas playing left back and move Santon to RB. LM/LAM will still be empty.
-Which 1st team players can we fill that space of LM?
Questions 2.
DL: This means that:-
1. In order to buy we have to sell.
So who should be going off, in order to improve the squad.? Some say Jonas..But I think there is something not right about this kind of SYSTEM somewhere…
47 Thump // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:41 PM
@WWYCD: The Senegal fans weren’t happy with losing 6-2 on aggregate so they decided to set fire to their stadium.
48 ITUNDERASHELL // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:41 PM
So it looks like we will be losing all three of them soon when the match has to be replayed.
49 archaeomag // Oct 13, 2012 at 9:42 PM
@davis_toons
Is this the purple squad?

Bloody hell, just as well us Irish are such a relaxed mob. After losing 1-6 to Germany last night we could have torched Dublin!
