Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has come out and said he’s been delighted with the form of 21 year-old Shane Ferguson this season, and with his development since Alan arrived at Newcastle almost two years ago.
Shane Ferguson – in action against the Red Devils last Sunday
The Northern Ireland international has been ruled out of his country’s World Cup qualifying game with Portugal on Tuesday night with a hip problem and he’s stayed on Tyneside to get treatment for it, and Alan Pardew thinks the lad will be fit for our next game a week today at the Stadium of Light, where we can hopefully pummel Sunderland.
This is what Alan Pardew told the local press yesterday:
“Ferguson’s development down that left is going to be a threat for us, whether he’s at left-back or left midfield.” “I’ve been pleased with him these last few games.”
“When you think about it, it was his deliveries which caused a lot of problems.” “Fergie, I felt, played well against United.” “We only took him off because he was tired.”
The 21 year-old was substituted in Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester United, and he was brought off as Alan Pardew says, to protect him, and he was probably suffering from his hip problem at the time too.
Alan Pardew had said over a year ago that Shane needed to bulk up on a steak and potatoes diet, but we don’t see too much evidence of that in the physical appearance of Sahne these days – maybe it’s all muscle that he’s built up.
But there’s also little doubt this lad has some ability, and he’s got three assists on the season, with those terrific left wing crosses he can put over.
For the record, Shane has made 5 appearances for Newcastle so far this season, and 23 total appearances for the club so far.

Comment #45Davy Wongas interest isn’t 20% at all, I’ve just had a quick look and it’s 1% per day/ 30% per 30 days plus a handling fee.
My gripe is that they give loans to people who cannot pay them back, desperate people who have no other means. It’s not Wongas fault that people don’t pay their loans back but once you miss a payment you are stuffed with charges and so on and It will spiral and spiral. In the right hands wonga is helpful but in our economic climate and they way they hand out loans to anyone makes me dislike them greatly. Putting that aside they’ve already signed and what can we do? No point moaning about it all day when nothing will change. I hope we spend their sponsorship money wisely and the government decide to regulate companies like wonga so they have to be more selective about who gets a loan.
As for players thinking we can challenge the top four if we end up finishing tenth how do you expect them to feel? We’re evidently struggling from lack of investment and llambias makes himself look stupid suggesting otherwise. If we lose against the mackems the league table is going to be very ugly and the next home game is going to be very hostile, anyone who attended the man united game will know what I’m talking about regarding hostile atmosphere. A footballers career is short and if we don’t seem to be pulling in the same direction as our stars then they will jump ship. Loyalty and football don’t mix.

Comment #47Wwycd – really who do they exploit though wonga you need a job to get a loan with them, if u need a loan you arnt managing your finances right, they are upfront on what u will pay back aslong as u pay it back on time, there upfront with the small print, so tell me this why the hell should I feel sorry for someone who takes a loan knowing if they don’t pay it back on time they will b charge stupid apr that’s there own fault

Comment #48Good post Nick. I think players claiming we can challange the top 4 is fanciful. It wouldnt have been fanciful if we had made 2 or 3 more 1st team additions in the summer. But we didnt. The happy clappies cant accept this though. Quite simply, it was an acid test failed. But then, NUFC is broke isnt it? I was hopeful that Jan would bring new first team blood – hopefully Derek the rat is spoofing us so that we dont get optimistic. I’d feel a lot more optimistic about “frettening” the top 4 with the type of centre half and right back that the manager so clearly wanted. Still, at least those naughty clubs out there know that Derek wont be taken for a fool. He just wont get the players we want either until perhaps they devalue a bit more. But by then, half the season will have gone.

Comment #49Agree we aren’t too far off 4th place but we can’t do it without top quality bluechip backup in key positions.(Lambsarse purple is just management speak) 11 quality starters plus another 4-5 as backup and to take the pressure off when we play 60 games a season will do.
Players like Anita who can come in 2-3 positions are good value but we need a few more…without selling 1ist team starters. The investment outward in 2-3 players will be repaid in higher TV income, payment for higher finishing and extra European income. If CL brings in about £32m (is that right ?) then a bit of expansion in team quality will do the biz…Got no problem with the Gooner model at all

Comment #52Would you get players of stoke or west ham or aston villa etc genuinly coming out and saying we can push for a top 4 spot? could you imagine nolan doing that at the moment at west ham?
I dont think he would, as he would believe it was not possible, he would get ridiculed to be fair.
many of our players and coaching staff have reapetadly stressed we are capable and are going for the champs league.
They have that belief in the club, great legends and straight up fellas like peter beardsley bobby moncur mick martin have all said we can go forward and again push for the holy grail of football ie champions league.
i respect that sort of opinion very much and there belief is not false either it is genuine.
So munstermag ,WWYCD, who`s opinion am i going to go with. is it yours mmmmm or fellas who have been in and around the toon and seen the work being done.
Sorry lads no contest for me.
Magpies, we did it last season beacuse we turned our great aquasitions in to blue chip players and we can again.
January will see another two come in and 50 POINTS UP FOR GRABS.

Comment #55Can i just say if anyone 3 years ago had of mentioned NUFC and the champions league you would have been laughed out of the toon, that is correct isnt it!
yet here we are three years later after having missed the champs league only on the last day of the previous season still not happy at the way we are progressing
Fans saying we should be doing this and that to get in to the champions league now!
Listen and get this sticking! most on here and most supporters in their wildest dreams would not have believed our progress in the last three years.
That has been achieved with a program and plan that is going along very well indeed.
AP has came out last week and said he does not regret bringing a centre half in the summer, did i want one yes i did but i will go with what our double manager of the year says and believe him.
He said there is still time, i will believe him and the club on that.

Your right. Beefman is like a punch drunk fighter he just doesn’t know who he’s for or against. He’s just taking on all comers. DL is a joke and a bad advertisement/PR
man bridging the divide between owner and fans. Travelling on away trips we regularly chat to Pardew and he sells the self sufficiency programme far better. When it comes to buying players at all levels a case has to be submitted which fully prices the cost down to length and cost of players contract. The purple nonsense, Pardew describes as key squad players each of whom have to be under consideration for sale at optimum times. In making a case to retain there is a need to consider alternative options from within existing playing staff. Pardew openly acknowledges that the time will come where he will be able to sell knowing that a ready replacement largely from within can be promoted.
I don’t agree with a lot of your comments but of late i don’t want to be totally associated with someone thrashing around and not making much sense either. I am all for sensible investment and so is Pardew. His case is already strengthened by the increase in value of Bigi.
I don’t have a problem being run efficiently after years of trophy signings and little forward planning.

I agree with you about Cabaye. He is a class act. If he plays well, we play well, and that’s truer of him than of any of our other players. I was also interested to see bills_son earlier, describing Krul and Ben Arfa as the two players who could go to “blue chip” clubs. He said Cabaye and Tiote were over-rated by Toon fans.
So let’s say, Krul and Ben Arfa are still appreciating in value. And Bigiramana may well be too.
But let’s also posit, as a for instance, that Tiote, who SAF claimed was too expensive at £20m, is depreciating in value. How far will the club allow his value to slide off its “share price.” before we sell? That’s how these things are done in the world of business. Will it really take “silly money” as Pardew claims.
Enrique was a “purple” player. He didn’t go for silly money. He went for a tidy profit., in line with his market value.
I thought Pardew was a good signing when he came, and still do. He gets his teams playing well. But he is inured to having his best players sold from under him, and then he falls off and gets sacked. We’ll see more of that, I fear.

Comment #70Top 3 youngters (now at least must play 15-20 mins from the end)
1) Bigi
2) Sammy
3) Shane Ferguson
Others
1) Vuckic – too much injured prone
2) Abeid – no idea what happen to him
3) Tavernier – 50/50 on him
4) Campbell – should at least get 5-10 mins each game
