Barcelona Reported To Be After Newcastle Midfielder

8:44 am, Wednesday, October 17th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 13 Comments

There’s a report TuttoMercato that Barcelona are interested in Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who played for France in their 1-1 draw against Spain in Madrid last night.

Yohan Cabaye – Barcelona eying Newcastle midfielder?

Cabaye was bought for just €5M from Lille in the summer of last year, and the french International has turned out to be another stellar signing by the Magpies, and now the question will be can we hang onto the Frenchman in the upcoming transfer windows of January and next summer.

Cabaye was one reason Newcastle managed to finish in a high 5th place in the Premier League last year,  and are back in Europe for the first time since the 2006-2007 season.

This is the first time Barcelona have been reported to be interested in Cabaye, although in the summer there were various reports that the top Spanish club were interested in Tim Krul, Newcastle’s top 24 year-old Dutch International goalkeeper.

And it was also reported in late August, that Arsenal were interested in signing Cabaye, but nothing materialized,.

We have no idea if this report is true, but we’d be surprised if it is, and the many top central midfielders Barcelona do have, Yohan may struggle to get a starting position at Barcelona, assuming the report has some truth in it.

With Yohan getting good publicity now for his performances for both France and Newcastle, we suppose it’s only natural there are reports that top clubs are interested in him.

That’s one reason Newcastle needs to become a top club again – so we can keep the many top players we have on Tyneside at the moment.

What do you think?

Love Yohan, but really Cabaye > Cesc? So 35+ million for Yohan you can have him.

Smells like lazy journalism to me.

Spain play France…so lets make up a story about a French player and a Spanish club

If there was any truth in this, would you be happy to let Cabaye go to Barcelona? I sure would, if they make it a top player they deserve to play for the best.. My opinion.
Love Cabaye for us, let’s hope not true on this one.

    WhyteThunder @ 2 – £35+ mill. for Cabaye?
    I’d drive him there myself.

I’d accept £25m for Cabaye. His is too inconsistent. Sign a replacement or give Abeid the chance. Cabaye doesn’t make enough forward runs like Steven Gerrard etc.

When he did do that, he had a blinder against Villa away last season. I’d also accept £25m for Tiote and £15m for Coloccini. We cannot afford to get rid of Demba Ba. We could get Mbiwa and Alderewerield for Coloccini.

Complete and utter bollocks! An old story that probably didn’t have any credence to begin with, I fcucking hate tabloid reporters. Apologies for my foul-mouthedness :p

HA HA.Well done i thought much of what you said was spot on. I hope you saw my somewhat late response to your football related series of questions. Newcomers are rarely welcomed by the “long time posters” be they male or female young or old. Ironically for me, it was Ibiza who was welcoming and made persevering worthwhile. It wouldn’t have occurred to many posters that people are often aggressive in order to be noticed.
Next time i recommend a poster health warning. Only engage if you aren’t sensitive and don’t take hissy fits.
Cheerio, but be back soon. You can go but be back soon.
By the way the Geordies are lovely people and we’ve got a great football team as the mackems will testify come Sunday evening.

I bet I am going to get abuse for this but tbh Cabaye and Tiote are underachieving so far this season. Tiote is way off the mark and Cabaye is getting there but still nowhere near last seasons form. I think we will see the best of them in early November on-wards. Considering this I find this story of Barcelona’s interest as complete fabrication. Barcelona have a midfield that is miles ahead of Cabaye. I am a big fan of both players but I am honest enough to accept they are still not in top form. Heck Bigirimana is playing better than Tiote recently and being only 18-that’s saying something.

Watching us play it’s evident we need another ‘creator’ in the team apart from the obvious CB we should have bought. We need to open up defenses and have more spring in our step. A quick and nimble player like Boudebouz would be perfect to help HBA unlock defenses. Since Cabaye’s play-making passes have dried up recently we can’t always depend on HBA to open the game for us. If we had another creative, flair player like him in Boudebouz the opposition would leave gaps in trying to mark them two and then Ba, Cisse and co will have much more time on the ball. Now our opponents mark HBA and we seem lost and lump it long hoping that Ba and co will latch on to it and make something special, most of the time costing us our tempo and possession on the ball.

Ps. I am really missing the games can’t wait for Sunday, bring on The Scum!!

Both Tiote and Cab have had injuries and Tiote especially always seems to take about 3 matches to get himself up to speed and timing.
Anyway what is this? First Deschamps has a pop at NUFC and now we are to lose Cab to the Catalans? As if the management were’nt doing enough already to belittle the club.
