Mathieu Debuchy had a good game last night for France in their 1-1 against World Champions Spain at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, in Madrid, and we really hoped that Newcastle could have signed this player in the summer.
Mathieu Debuchy – moving to Newcastle in January?
The news today is that Arsenal may be interested in the French International, but we wonder why that would be true with Carl Jenkinson having been impressive so far this season, as he has deputized for the injured Frenchman Bacary Sagna, whom Debuchy has replaced in the French side.
The news is being reported by TalkSPORT, and it seems that both Newcastle and Arsenal were represented in Madrid last night.
As we said, we’d be surprised if Arsenal were interested in Debuchy, but we wouldn’t put it past Newcastle to go in for the Frenchman again in January, and maybe have better luck enticing his club, Lille, to let him go.
The 27-year-old looked a very good player last night, and he would fit perfectly into the Newcastle side.
And with Danny Simpson’s contract running out next summer, it could be a wise move for Newcastle to bring Mathieu through the door in January.
We hope that’s what happens.

Comment #81Archeomag at 27 if the team is a colour coded spreadsheet to Llambias what colour would Ranger and Xisco be? I’m thinking purple is perfect, not just because we actually pay them but because it is the colour of Dekka’s neck whenever he thinks about them.

I would say they believed in what they were told, and it was probably Pards who sold them the idea and I think we all know now that what Dastardly and Mashley tell Pards over a few Whiskies isn’t always what happens when it comes to spending the cash.

I think the transfer policy is to bring in 1 or 2 “purple” players if possible per window to fill in the quality gaps in our pretty good first team, and add 3 or 4 Bigi-type players to develop. As we know, a lot of responsibility is on Mr Carr’s shoulders to find these 20 year old gems.
As far as our form goes, there is so long to go yet, and any negativity now for our prospects this season is premature. Our league position could be better but there’s plenty of time for it to improve. We cant expect to be at the top end when we’ve got key injuries. In time, they will come back and prospects will rise.
I feel I must let go of Ashley’s past misdeeds and try to recognize the better work he is doing now with the financial stability we have. (What a wrench it was to type that!)

Comment #86What we’ll see at the weekend unfortunately is two teams afraid to lose, with players coming back from injury. Can see it being a low scoring draw with us scoring first.
Players rarely come back from injury hitting spectacular form.
On paper we should destroy them but I just don’t see it happen.

Comment #88Very brave weg. I hope you’re right but I can only see 1 or 2 purple players coming in if 1 or 2 purple players go out. Llambias has already said as much. There will be no purples added only replaced in time (whatever that means). As far as 3 or 4 Bigi types coming in that is very unlikely. Finding 1 is a triumph for Carr but they don’t fall out of trees. The other clubs are constantly sweeping around as well. Under Ashley/Llambias mediocrity will be the standard when averaged over the next several seasons with 5th the best and possibly 10th to 12 th as the worst.

I wish I could let go of Mashleys past deeds, and I almost did last January but that carry on last summer boiled my pi$$,this blog was absolute torture everyday, but your right about the too early business,Arsenal had a stinker at the start of last season and Spurs had a terrible run after floppy chops decided he was going to be Enland manager and they still managed fourth and third,so hopefully a win against the mackems and a few players back could kick start our season.

Comment #91Only a very hard marker would say Pards has not done remarkably well. It’s true the team is not playing as well as most would like, but injuries, lack of depth and the performances of our opposition seem the most likely causes of that. I think the one contentious area would be the Ba/Cisse issue, but if I had those two guys in my squad I’d be trying everything I could to get them firing in tandem, before abandoning the idea, particularly when you consider we have apparently had the players to play 442 well. I’m not so sure about our strength out wide anymore, Guti, Oba, Marveaux even HBA struggle to get past a defender on the outside and deliver the service the strikers would thrive on. Maybe Pards is having a rethink too, but I’m not criticising him for trying to get 442 to work, because it did, maybe still does look like his best formation considering the players he has at his disposal.

Comment #96I’ve had a brave day Geordietwo – I had my readybrek this morning!!!!
The main focus will probably be in the development squad, with Debuchy coming into the first team. Just hope the mixed messages coming out about transfers becomes unmixed!
JailforAshley, you must take a deep calming breath…and then throw your darts at the Ashley poster!!! You dont want to miss do you?
I hope mid-table mediocrity doesn’t return too soon, we don’t want the mackems near us! Things should improve soon. A win against Sunderland, and with Man Utd, Chelsea and Spurs in our rear view maybe our fill in players can see us through the coming games and Tiote and Cabaye can return to form.

All joking aside though I genuinely think that we will win either the League Cup, FA Cup or dare I say it…the Premier League by 2020.
As for Debuchy I think we’d all have him in our squad as he’s an excellent player, he’d be an improvement on Simpson. I do think we’ll sign one, maybe 2 players in the January window too. I’m full of the optimism this evening 😀

Re Ben Arfa and Cabaye: I think they’ll both leave within the next five years. Both have Champions League ambitions. Can you see us getting a Champions League place?
I do believe that they’re both genuinely happy at the club and want to progress, but if a top, top side come in with a concrete offer they’re not going to stick around.
As much as I like Cabaye and have been amazed by moments of world class brilliance (the pass to Cisse v Stoke at home) I do think he’s actually over rated. I’m more amazed that people aren’t knocking on the door for Ben Arfa. He’s an unbelievable talent. Our best player technically, certainly the most talented.
Hopefully we can keep both at the club for as long as possible and they can continue to grow, the project they’ve signed on for is just beginning and gathering momentum. We do need to keep adding quality to the squad, otherwise we’ll be left behind and our big names will go.

Don’t worry, I applaud your optimism, after all I am part of the optimist club on here (when im not sitting on fences in the middle of roads that is 😉 )
I think we have a certain direction and plan akin to the Arsenal model, but it is so difficult to win a major honour.
In my opinion though, we could win a cup. Why not? ey? As for the Premierleague though, I don’t believe that’s possible under this regime. We’d have to bankrolled by a sugar daddy. Just the way it is now…

Well if we can emulate the kind of sustainability that is demonstrated at Arsenal on a yearly basis then that would suit me nicely, but I think we can push that one step further and actually go on and win something.
The league would be a tough ask, but we have no idea how good our first team will be by 2020 and I just choose to think that we’ll have a good blend of cracking signings and well developed youngsters in the first team challenging for honours.
As for fence sitting, I’m not a fan, I’m all for making a point and sticking to it (as long as it’s optimistic opinions…) 😀

Comment #101That line about Lille moving the goal posts is pretty thin. We could have gotten him at one price before the Euro’s and another after. Lille were more than justified in wanting more money for a player who had risen in stature over the course of the tournament and Newcastle had their chance and missed it. The stuff that has come out of SJP since is an all too familiar bending of the facts, it seems to me.

Truth be told, none of us really know, it’s all speculation and conjecture. We had a value of the player, and clearly Lille had a different valuation. I don’t see how the club can be criticised in putting good business practice into force.

Comment #104Yeah, sure, not paying above the odds is one thing, but suggesting that Lille were mischievious in moving the goal posts under the circumstances quite another. In hindsight, I imagine Newcastle rue not matching Lille’s initial very fair valuation of a very good player. But as you say, we never really know how anything has actually been played out.

What about when debuchy came out and said lille had completly changed there valuation after promising him a move? Its a shame that the board have got them self into a position now when the fans automatically asume were always the ones in the wrong despite are board and the player we were trying to sign stating otherwise

Oct 17, 2012 at 10:23 PM
Comment #107Well if we were going to go by that logic it would be unreasonable for Newcastle to fork out an extra 2 million with the hope that Debuchy became an even better player, they have looked at his ability and valued him accordingly. I would doubt that they regret it at all, they are either pursuing him now or looking at other targets, it’s the way business works these days at NUFC

Oct 17, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Comment #108I view Debuchey as speaking out then out of disappointment, understandably as he had earned his move. But again, it doesn’t mean Lille should sell below their own valuation of a player, which has never been over the top. Newcastle should have moved when they had their chance. They didn’t, why then point a finger of blame. Lille were clearly unhappy with the way we went about it, as I recall.
Quasi.modo
Oct 17, 2012 at 10:30 PM
Comment #109Lille don’t have to sell under their valuation and neither do we have to buy over our valuation. The same logic applies for both sides. Perhaps Lille were reluctant to sell Debuchy before the Euros as maybe they were hoping he would perform well in the tournament so they could add an extra few million onto the asking price, something that NUFC have stated that they have done. I think this scenario is much more likely, and that puts the finger of blame squarely on Lille and not the club.
Like I said before, I don’t see how the club can be criticised in the way they handled that situation.

Comment #110The only thing I’m complaining about is that Llambias hung the failure of the deal on “they moved the goal posts”, shifting the blame onto Lille. It was cheap and unnecessary and doesn’t ring true.

Debuchy was speaking out of his disappointment in the lille board breaking an agreement they had with him, to allow him his move they then changed the price they had given even after the euros several have stated this and tbh blaming lilles president for constantly re evaluating his player makes more sense than constantly blaming our club i think ashley has shown he will spend and i doubt that he’d pay nearly £7 mil for anita then squabble over £1 mil for debuchy unless lille were fcuking about

Comment #116Newcastle missed the market, Debuchey is a contracted asset whose stock grew as a result of playing well in the Euro’s. I’m complaining about the use of the term “moved the goal posts” thereby suggesting Lille had been mischievious. I don’t believe they were. I further argue it’s a consequence of the way we do business, which I largely agree with, but conduct yourself with a bit more grace when things don’t work out, which is a broader criticism I have of the way we operate at times.
