It seems the Evening Chronicle is conducting a series of interviews with Newcastle manager Alan Pardew this week, and they are excellent interviews.
FC Twente’s Douglas – has to be one of the seven
Alan has revealed he has an excellent working relationship with the Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, and is always trying to get more money out of the Londoner to sign good players.
Here’s what Alan Pardew told the Chronicle today:
“There have been times when Derek Llambias has said, ‘It’s out of the budget or it doesn’t work’.” “But Mike has said ‘Do it’.”
“Don’t think that might not happen again.” “That’s my job to try to tease him in on signings. He knows that and what I’m trying to do all of the time.”
“He tries to stay away from me but he can’t, I know where he is in Mansfield, it isn’t far!” “He is the best chairman I’ve had in terms of letting me work.”
“He hardly ever bothers me and if he does, it’s about a decision involving the budget.” “Questions like ‘Was that a good move?’ or ‘Could we have paid less?’”
“But outside of the team, very rarely will he stop me and say ‘Why did you sub him at that time?’ or ‘What’s the story with him, why isn’t he playing?’.”
“He trusts me and knows I am being fair.” “I am trying to get the best out of the team.”
Mike Ashley wants a good deal in the transfer market, and there’s nothing wrong with that – especially after Freddy Shepherd made some expensive and terrible buys in the ten years he was Chairman of Newcastle.
And at least it looks fairly certain that Newcastle will try to being in a top center-back in January, and Alan says he has about seven of them on the list for possible acquisitions:
“We have about seven names for a center-half.”
Alan had also said he may want to bring in a right back in January, and pointed to the fact that Danny Simpson’s contract runs out in the summer, and there seems no signs of him signing a new deal to stay on Tyneside.
It would be great if we can bring in a center-back and also a right back in the summer, because defense is still Newcastle’s weak link.
What do you think, and who do you think the 7 center-backs on the list are?
