Arrest Made For Racial Abuse Of Shola Ameobi

We had said earlier today that it would be great if Newcastle fans can applaud racist victim Danny Rose of Sunderland, before the game starts at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, and it would give some much needed positive publicity for racial equality.

A great shot of Shola Ameobi – has received racial abuse

Well there’s news coming through that a man has been arrested for an alleged racist comment on Facebook about Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

The man is a 43-year-old, from Washington, Tyne and Wear, and he was held in jail overnight on suspicion of racial harassment and has been bailed until November 28th.

Some remark was made about Shola on Facebook, and the offensive post has since been removed.

And this is the second time this year the Ameobi brothers have received racial slurs, as his younger brother, 20 year-old Sammy, was abused on Twitter by two teenagers earlier this year.

The teenagers got off lightly, and only received a warning from the police.

So it would be even more appropriate if applause is given for Danny Rose on Sunday and maybe also for Newcastle veteran Shola.

But there has to also be a concern that these racial episodes seem to be increasing in the game of football.

We hope that’s not the case.

To be honest I don’t agree with it. whatever happened to freedom of speech? Unless you are using really threatening language which would realistically threaten life or limb then people should be allowed to pretty much say what they like. They are only showing themselves up to be ignorant and the majority of people will see this. Posting ignorant racial comments online is the ultimate way of shooting yourself in the foot. And for the record I’m black.

I do think that if I was a pro footballer, I would avoid social media like the plague. Seems to cause nothing but trouble for them.

Just hope Shola plays on Sunday along with Ba. Shola who I have criticised in the past has an uncanny knack of slaying the Mackems.

@1 what a rediculous post are you just trying to get a responce? So you would happily raise your children in a society that allows racial abuse? And this is England mate there’s no such thing as freedom of speech so maybe read a bit more yea

I think this kind of thing is disgraceful and happening too often. Shola is a legend, regardless of skin colour. Thing is, it shows how clever these people are using social networking to do it. Thankfully the authorities are taking no cr@p

I’m going by what the reports said. A ‘racial comment’ does not imply threatening comment.
If it was in actual fact threatening didn’t you understand the latter part of my post where I said ‘Unless you are using really threatening language which would realistically threaten life or limb’ etc..meaning if that was the case then go ahead and arrest them. Wasn’t that clear enough for you?

Are YIOU trying to start an online keyboard warrior style argument? PLEASE do not patronise me about living in a society thats full of racism. Wring guy to throw that at. I’m black born and bread in Newcastle, a place where there’s hardly any black people NOW let alone when I was a kid growing up. I encountered racism like you wouldn’t believe so stop right there. I don’t need you or anyone else to defend me on that point. There will always be racism just like there will always be crime. Do i like it? Of course not, but there is such a thing as freedom of speech no matter how moronic or bigoted.I totally believe the vast majority of people in this country or not racist so anyone who is stupid enough to be racist is only showing themselves up.

This Clown Must Be a Sunderland Supporter. Shola is a Geordie Hero . He may not be able to handle 90 mins any more but he will get vital goals for us as Sub. Like he did against sunderland at home last season…. Loyal Legend and Geordie Hero…

I agree with the Bionic Mag without reservation. Racial abuse is deeply offensive and should be vigorously opposed by the peoples voice while increased government interventions in civil society should be viewed with wary skepticism.
