Newcastle are again being linked with Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia, who currently plays for CSKA Moscow in Russia, and the 24 year-old certainly has an amazing goal scoring record of around 120 goals in 196 appearance so far in his career.
Seydou Doumbia – 24 year-old CSKA Moscow striker
It’s not the first time we’ve been linked with the former BSC Young Boys player, who joined the rich Moscow club in 2010.
While in Switzerland, Doumbia scored 57 goals in 78 appearances for Young Boys, and the lad stands 5’10″ tall and was born in Yamoussoukro in the Ivory Coast in 1987.
But the news that makes it almost nonsense that Newcastle could be interested in this player, is that the fee quoted for him is around £16M, with some top clubs in Europe said to be interested in the striker.
We will probably continually be linked with this player over the next few months – but does anybody really think Newcastle will pay out £16M, and the news says Newcastle will make their move for the player in January, should Demba Ba leave the club.
Of course Alan Pardew did say earlier in the week, that Newcastle could still pay out big money for one player, if his price could say treble over a few years on Tyneside.
But Newcastle will get almost nothing for Ba in January, if he exercises the £7M release clause in that contract of his, because about £5M of that goes to Demba Ba and his representatives.
So it’s not even that Newcastle will have new money to spend if Demba Ba is sold.
We probably haven’t seen the end of this story – but does anybody think this can be true?
We don’t.

Comment #1Can categorically admit that I’ve never heard of him, but that record speaks for itself.
Still don’t think we will lose Ba though, I’m sticking by that.

Comment #3If they think he can add to the team and has sell on worth, then yes, but the higher the price the less likely of course. Good age and goal scoring record, I take this one more seriously than most of the others.

Comment #5Class player. Have always wanted him at this football club! But it’s not gonna be possible to keep him, ba and cisse all happy at one club! Btw. £16million is a bargain for him! 106 goals in 149 games!

Comment #6I was surprised when MA splashed over £9m for Cisse. A £16m bid for this lad doesn’t ring true with MAs form. I would say £7m will be the most he will spend on a striker as they will have to spend at least £5m on a CB.

Comment #7archaeomag – quite right, and this particular crock of shit was made up by Talksport over 3 weeks ago (27 September) so goodness knows why Ed has decided to drag it all up again now.

Comment #8Of course it’s just paper talk, so it’s probably rubbish, but that aside, if at his age he were to continue that goalscoring form for two seasons at the Toon, what’s he then worth, 30-40 million, more?

Comment #9Would love to see him at the club, comes with the Tiote stamp of approval too.

Comment #10Sign him. Hes worth more than 16m. Hes got insane speed, very very good footwork and a calm demeanour in front of goal and a knack of being it the right place at the right time.

Comment #11He will have more chemistry with Cisse. Some aspects of their game is similar but Seydou Doumbia is better than Cisse

Comment #12One thing that has shocked me with MA is his continued strict transfer policy despite the brilliant signings Pards, Graham, and the staff have brought in for next to nothing. I suppose the Cisse transfer sum was a reward, but when you look at the track record of our scouting, it is disappointing.
16m seems far too much for us. But I DO think that if Ba continues this league-leading scoring form into winter, he will be a legit target. Otherwise his knee would still put some buyers off.

Comment #13He remind me a little bit of Obafemi Martins. Small, run fast and can shoot.
agree?

Comment #14I would be absolutely delighted if this was true. I have wanted this guy here for a very long time. We all have players we would love to join this club, most that would never happen and too unrealistic, such as an Eden hazard, but then we all had a few that we could actually get, such as remy in the summer. For me, this guy has always been at the top of my list. He would, with out doubt, be one of the top 5 stickers in the premier league if he joined.
But then again this probably won’t happen, and if he was available for 16 million a top team would come in for him.

Comment #16Good player but I think it’s a load of bull anyway. What is it with Demba’s weird contract wasn’t his stupid contract clause supposed to end in the summer, now January, and if not then what after that, is it still there in his contract?? We can’t be going on like this forever hoping no one comes in for him it’s ridiculous. We will lose next to nothing if he goes due to his ridiculous clause-what a bad piece of business by NUFC that time.

Comment #18I think we were prepared to spend £12.5m in the summer on that dutch striker but he went to germany instead.
£12.5 and £16 mill aren’t that far apart, perhaps the reports are just quoting a slightly higher figure than what we think we can get him for
DL did say that for purple players it was a small market as we had to be buying better than what we already have. Not many better than Ba that’s for sure.

Comment #19Honestly I would rather if we bought someone it was with the intentions of playing 433 and not just to replace Ba in our current go nowhere 442!

Comment #20Grafton…they are actually £3.5M apart from each other – the price of another Tiote!
…we are not paying £16M for anyone anytime soon 🙂

Comment #21Well everyone said noway would we pay £9m for Cisse and that happened. I agree it’s highly unlikely at £16m but if we could haggle them down to £13.5 then I think it becomes a lot more realistic.
If he’s as good as some people say then perhaps he’ll be worth double after he proves himself in a top league.

Comment #22Grafton…of course with sellon value anything is basically possible, but I cannot see MA pay that amount unless it is for someone younger and only if he is the sure thing.
Doumbia is 24 (25) and plays in Russia and Switzerland before. He would be a gamble at that amount no matter what either Fifa 13 or FM 2013 says 🙂

Comment #23Two things I see wrong with this: £16m and he plays in Russia, therefore wage wise he’s outside of our bracket there as well……next daft rumour please 🙂
