Newcastle manager Alan Pardew left no doubt with the Newcastle fans that he was proud of his players in today’s excellent display at the Stadium of Light, when Newcastle almost held onto a 1-0 win with only 10 men, before a late Demba Ba own goal rescued Sunderland.
A proud Alan Pardew salutes the Newcastle fans – and his players!
Yohan Cabaye scored after only three minutes at the Stadium of Light, with a well worked goal and Newcastle looked in control when Cheick Tiote was sent off, after 25 minutes, for high kick on Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher.
And the Sunderland equalizer was a lucky one, as John O’Shea’s flick-on from Sebastian Larsson’s nice free-kick into the box was going wide, but it struck Demba Ba in the face and the ball was diverted past a helpless Tim Krul into the goal – and Newcastle had no luck at all.
Pardew told Sky Sports he was proud of the Newcastle display:
“It was a magnificent effort. We said to the players before the game how important it was to the fans, we’ve now shown how important it is to us.”
“Playing an hour with 10 men, if we could have just seen it out, it would have been one of the greatest victories ever here. But it’s a great point and I’m very proud of my players.”
And when asked about Tiote’s red card, which altered the game in Sunderland’s favor, the Newcastle manager had this to say:
“At first I didn’t think it was that bad, but looking back at it again we can’t have any complaints. But what a response from the rest of the group.”
The truth was it’s very hard to argue that Cheick shouldn’t have been sent off, because his tackle was high, but we’ve seen players only get a yellow for that.
The good news is this was ane an excellent and courageous performance from our lads, and maybe even though we didn’t get the win, it will give Newcastle the confidence, and we can tear West Brom apart at St. James’ Park next Sunday.

Comment #81And yourself for being offensive towards me for no particular reason. You need to focus on talking about NUFC and not other people.
We will struggle over the course of the season as we have not strengthened in important areas.

right without willo im sure sunderland would have scored 2 or 3 goals with out his clearances and last ditch tacks same with simmo……. with out him blocking crosses and he did keep mclean realativly quiet………
you may have ur view but in no way shape or form are you a proper supporter in my book tht backs the full team when it is needed…..
they worked there @rses of just for us for not to blow it when tiote was caught wrong day wrong time, wrong place
sometimes constructive criticism is whats needed but not bashing players not whats needed at times but hey what ever floats your boat……

Shola has been playing very well this season. And he offers something different to our team. He is a target man and can play well as a lone striker unlike Ba he is also very helpful to our team defensibly. I’ve also been here for 5 years now and I’ve criticized him before A LOT! but this season he has been very good.

Comment #85Ketsy just can it for goodness sake, what on eath are you talking about? Please illustrate your scenario of Willo being THE player at fault for the goal. Also how many interceptions and tackles did you miss in the meantime? You are a cracked record mate and totally transparent.
Ashton – Ba wasteful and cost us a goal? very selective. But hey, lets drop Ba he is now officially rubbish lol.

Is that why they brought two DMs in the summer? If he is as good as you think he is why would they spend so much money on two different DMs and why isn’t he a starter for England?? Is England that good that there is no place for the best DM in the league in the team???
Do you even know what you are talking about??

Comment #92Ashton – i agree that 442 is a disaster for us if Ba and Cisse are played together, however even when Pardew starts to play formation bingo during games we still lack possession, i will admit that this is probably not down to Check, however as i say other top teams have ball players in front of their back 4,
Man City – yesterday Milner – Yaya
Man Utd – yesterday Carrick, Cleverly, other days Giggs Scholes
Arsenal – Ramsey – Cazorla – Diaby – Wilshere
Tottenham – Sandro – Livermore – Huddlestone
Chelsea – Mikel – Lampard – Ramires
The only other DM in the league who almost plays like Tiote is Mikel (less Mobile but steady) however everybody else in the chelsea team barring the CB’s (who also score goals) are allowed to go forward.
Pardew has Mr T sitting, Jonas is knackered, Benny is covering full back. Pardew indeed needs to change the 442, the sooner the better, it is outdated and as you say is one of the reasons why we dont ever dominate possession and win games clearly.
Maybe Cheick is getting sick of chasing the ball around all the time, we give it away all to cheaply.

Way to misunderstand everything. We had to drop a striker. Which striker is the question here. It should’ve been Ba because he struggles when he play upfront by himself anlike Shola who is a legit target man and would’ve been more helpful to our team both offensively and defensively.

Comment #95A centre-half should command the 18 yard box. Williamson should’ve been in Ba’s position, so the lack of positioning and communication has cost us the goal. I’m also surprised Danny ‘super’ Simpson would standing on the goal-line behind Krul to clear the ball, so that’s also his fault for not doing his regular job.

Do you?
He was very good at villa and a key man at city. He has played a lot this year despite their two new signings.
Also I never said he was the best in the league. I said he was better than tiote.
And I think yaya toure is also, and yes he does play as a dm, but he also can play further up when needed.
And I was just pointing out tiote isn’t in the top ten best dm in the world.
He is good, but not world class.

Comment #99Because of his reputation Tiote was shown a red card for a challenge that is a yellow for almost any other player in the EPL. HOWEVER, it is a reputation that he has earned for his history of rash challenges.
The card was unfair to NUFC, but probably balancing the scales of justice for Tiote. Just saying’…….

Comment #103That was really not a great game today. Kudos to Pardew for saying itwas a fair red card (I still believe it was a bit harsh).
We weren’t great today besides from the goal and few passes and touches.
Sunderland were a bore.
The refs; I won’t blame a match on the ref but this was one questionable effort!
Even before the incidense we didn’t create much though I liked Shola’s hold up game 🙂 and after Tiote left we looked like we were two men down for the btter part of the second half.
Maybe i just need to clear my head – I am sure I can come up with something positive for tomorrow 🙂 (don’t like being this doom and gloom :-)) lol

Comment #105In hindsight maybe having a go at Mr T regarding the last time we dominated possession was harsh, it probably has nothing to do with him, he has been carrying one or two, (unfortunately Jonas is now in this category, he is knackered and can only now see him being useful at full back, his legs have gone).
Need to play 4231, with Mr T and Anita in front of the back 4, Cabs pushed forward.

Toure does play there actually. They play with two holding then silva and nasri in front with tevez and aguero up top.
He often end the game further forward if needed but he is a dm. And even if he doesn’t play that position all the time doesn’t mean he is bad, I said he was better than tiote there.
Tiote is where Parker was a few years ago. When Parker was with us he was sloppy, turned on the ball a lot and wasted possession. He improved at west ham and is even better at Spurs.
I’m not for one minute saying tiote is a million miles away from them, he is still relatively young and will no doubt improve the next couple years and could become a top level player but at the moment he isn’t there for me.

Comment #107tiote i would say is a DM who is very good but his attitude is what seperates him from world class DM, the problem come once tiote gets booked we are forced to use cabaye jonas and HBA more defensive otherwise there would be so many more game that tiote would get sent off. so for that reason tiote is not a world class CDM yet.

Comment #108How any can have a go at pardew is beyond me.
Negative when down to ten men for most of the game is just a mad statement to make.
We did well, tbh the whole derby and atmosphere didn´t really have any bite today, was mediocre as a spectacle imo.
Got to be happy with a point but not at the timing it came.
Sunderland were fucking shite against ten men absolutely pathetic.1

Comment #109We deserved to win, mackems were really poor. Just luck going against us today, and the poorest ref iv seen this season. Not complaining about the red card but the rest of the game he was very pro sunderland.
Tiote has been crap this season, starting to believe the hype about him and going into stupid tackles, he now has te reputation so a yellow like today becomes a red because of who it is. Not right but its his own fault, he could have been snt off a few times this season now. Needs his head sorting out or be sold as he is becoming a liability.
Though Ba battled well, jonas played well but only coz we had our backs to the wall so running and closing down was all we needed from him.
Colo fantastic, been a big miss. Willo played well too, under the circumstances no-one played that badly.
Tiote to blame for not winning, i hope the team make him aware of it also.

I think that’s a fair comment. Although in his defence he does seen to control himself when gets the first yellow.
Tackling wise he is very good, sometimes rash but usually in control, it’s just other attributes of the position I think he needs to work on.

Toure plays as a Box-to-box midfielder. His primery job isn’t breaking up the play. Tiote’s is and he is the best at breaking and retaining possession in the league. And his passing is also very good.
You are an idiot.

Comment #113So Demba Ba is top scorer for us and 2nd top scorer for the Mackems! Says it all! Haven’t watched the game yet (recorded) although good old BBC news showed only the Blunderland goal. Sounds like we did OK and for all the huff and puff from them before the game we seemed like the more composed side.
Moving on – who for the Europa? Harps, Bigi, Anita, Perchinho, Saylor, Obertan, Cisse, Fergie or if Tiote is elogible should we play him and not risk someone we might need for the next league games?

Good assessment.
Players like tiote, cattermole, shawcross get a reputation in the papers as being tough tacklers and pick up cards easier. Same as Suarez has now dived so much genuine fouls on him will get missed.
The problem I have is the media and then seemingly the refs punish players from us, stoke, Sunderland, lesser teams then somebody like Scholes who tackles bad every week is just laughed off as not a problem and he is deemed to be clumsy not violent or cynical

Getting personal as your argument is falling apart.
Toure can play In many positions, he is not just a dm but when r does play there he breaks up play and does well.
Tiote does break up play but gives away needless fouls and also give away possession.
Read what I have said properly, I said tiote can pass well but he doesn’t get his head up early enough a lot of the time, he dallies on the ball and gives it away in dangerous areas.
He can play a great pass, as seen in the reading game, but he doesn’t do it often enough.
And you claimed he was one of the worlds best, he isn’t, simple fact.
Better players in his position.
Busquets
Mascherano
De Rossi

I was just trying to prove he wasn’t in the same category as the worlds best.
But as I have said he is young, started in a lesser league so he is learning and improving as he goes in one of the best leagues in the world.
When he is 26/7 there is no reason he can’t be world class.
