Newcastle manager Alan Pardew left no doubt with the Newcastle fans that he was proud of his players in today’s excellent display at the Stadium of Light, when Newcastle almost held onto a 1-0 win with only 10 men, before a late Demba Ba own goal rescued Sunderland.
A proud Alan Pardew salutes the Newcastle fans – and his players!
Yohan Cabaye scored after only three minutes at the Stadium of Light, with a well worked goal and Newcastle looked in control when Cheick Tiote was sent off, after 25 minutes, for high kick on Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher.
And the Sunderland equalizer was a lucky one, as John O’Shea’s flick-on from Sebastian Larsson’s nice free-kick into the box was going wide, but it struck Demba Ba in the face and the ball was diverted past a helpless Tim Krul into the goal – and Newcastle had no luck at all.
Pardew told Sky Sports he was proud of the Newcastle display:
“It was a magnificent effort. We said to the players before the game how important it was to the fans, we’ve now shown how important it is to us.”
“Playing an hour with 10 men, if we could have just seen it out, it would have been one of the greatest victories ever here. But it’s a great point and I’m very proud of my players.”
And when asked about Tiote’s red card, which altered the game in Sunderland’s favor, the Newcastle manager had this to say:
“At first I didn’t think it was that bad, but looking back at it again we can’t have any complaints. But what a response from the rest of the group.”
The truth was it’s very hard to argue that Cheick shouldn’t have been sent off, because his tackle was high, but we’ve seen players only get a yellow for that.
The good news is this was ane an excellent and courageous performance from our lads, and maybe even though we didn’t get the win, it will give Newcastle the confidence, and we can tear West Brom apart at St. James’ Park next Sunday.

His passing is very good and more superior than Parker’s and Barry’s( Which you think they are the best in the league) The reason he gives the ball away is because of the 442 and our tactics. He rarely gives the ball away when playing for Ivory coast. Because they play with three midfielders and there is always an option available for him. Unlike when he plays for us where he is always outnumbered and he tries he best to play it out instead of hoofing it up field like everyone else.

Comment #162I m devastated we didn’t get the 3 points today as im sure most on here will be, I have great respect for Tiote as a footballer but he let himself, the manager, the players and the fans down today. He has looked a like a loose cannon since his return from injury, his return against Norwich made me shudder a little, he was very lucky to stay on the pitch in that game and he was only introduced with minutes to go so for me the writing was on the wall and Pardew should have curbed it then! If we sell any of our ‘purple’ players in January I would hope it is him because IMO he is a liability with both suspensions and injuries as of late and his decision making has went backwards too, good player though, but one I believe we could replace from within easier, and hopefully raise a few extra quid for full/centre back cover, this is not a ‘in the heat of the moment’ rant!

sorry but you are just wrong…tiote gives the ball away more than them.
He gives it away more than cabaye who has to put up with the same tactics.
A good dm should break up the play, like he does, then keep it simple, play a ball out wide or to the more creative midfielder in cabaye, he doesn’t do this all the time.
I’m not saying he is bad at passing, far from it, he is good, what i have said a few times now is that he doesn’t always get his head up quickly enough and by the time he does he has been closed down and his options are limited.
That’s just experience, that will come with time and more knowledge of the game, it can be improved with work,

Comment #166Right, all negativity aside, as quite frankly it’s boring, before tiote got sent off, how good we’re we! We were amazing, we passed out from the back, we scored an early goal, there was no way Sunderland were going to score when we had 11 on and we would have scored 3 or 4.
When tiote went off, we lacked a bit of stability, and players had to work a lot harder.
I don’t blame tiote for the red card, as I personally don’t believe it was a red card. Yes a yellow, but why was tiotes challenge worse than Larsons challenge on shola? Refereeing was poor and we would never have got more than a point when we get no decisions.
Anyway, we were close to some of our form of last year, and it shows how important colo is for us. The next few games are really must wins as 2 wins from 8 isn’t good, but with all the things going against us, injuries bad refereeing etc. it’s going to get better from here.
I am not sure if anything I just makes sense so I am going to leave now.

And sorry but parker and barry are better,
They play the same positions, one plays for a team that have been in the top 5 the past 3 years, the other a title winner and champions league regular.
The world class players nearly always play in the world class teams and champions league teams.
The exceptions are players who stay for the love of the club, shearer for example. Tiote is not here because he loves the club, if somebdy offered him triple money to go to man city or real madrid he would be off.

yeh it was a great display until that red card.
The red card was harsh, but you have to be so careful, refs are really clamping down on anything which is dangerous or looks dangerous these days.
I said at the time it wasn’t a kick, stamp or rake down the shin, it was just he left his foot in a bit high.
And also I dont get how a chance of a broken leg is a worse than a chance of a boot in the chest/head, i’d rather break my leg than crack my skull…can heal from a broken leg, even if it ends career, a broken skull could kill you.

The reason why it seems so is because Parker and Barry always play the ball either backwards or to the side and they have more options in midfield because their team plays three players there and their tactics are more positive in a sense that there is much more movement off the ball than our team. Tiote always tries to find a forward player when he gets the ball and he always tries to pass it to those players. He rarely passes the ball backwards unlike Parker and Barry who do it most of the time when they get the ball.

Comment #171Tiote was who he was.
AP will again calm him once down once again and ask him to stay on level head.
No ones runs around and close a danger down like he does, who in the team can does that as effectively in the middle of the park currently? = Not a single one yet.
When he wasn’t playing we were very weak at the back. He is the steel, he is the backbone. He just got to calm down a little with his tackle and “do more smart tacking”.
Not to sell him!

Comment #172I love tiote as a footballer but he has become a loose cannon showing massive naively ,if we are honest he should have already been suspended for this game.
He is booked all too often shows litte responsibility ,he needs a strong word he can’t keep doing daft things putting us at a disadvantage
He is showing less maturity than when he f.irst arrived almost as thou he has to live upmt this hard man image which is doing no one any good
I am his biggest fan but am running out of patience with the daft antics

I think we are getting to some sort of middle ground.
I appreciate if tiote had a lot of players around him making runs it would be much easier. I do think parker and barry do pass forward though but as you point out the options are all around them.
when I watch us play ben arfa, cabaye, santon, colo seem to be the only ones who actually pass then move off into space.
A lot of our other players pass, then just stand still, players need to be much better at finding space.

Comment #174ashton – read my comments , it is not just about today , it is going back since tiote came to the club. his record is appalling . end of story. i dont think you are stupid or ignorant, like you have called me , but please look at the whole picture of what i am saying and not just selective points.

Comment #175We can see from the game that we need Simpson to get forward when there are obvious spaces to attack on the right and he really got to get himself more into it if he can.
(just like how Santon does it)
There were several times where there are opening and he did tried once and twice. Could a player like Mathieu Debuchy do better?

Nope. I am saying he isn’t a mile away but he needs to adapt to the team he is in. It’ better to go back than to give the ball away.

In our team going back guarantees giving the ball away because they hoof it to row z. So it’s the same thing

Comment #184Anita is a better distributor of the ball in comparison with Tiote. Tiote gets booked nearly every game. That is a serious issue. I also think Anita offers more going forward.
Cabaye is a great player on his day. He isn’t consistent enough though and that’s why I think Abeid needs to be given the opportunity.
I’d rather see Jonas at left back and Santon on the right until January. Simpson doesn’t deserve to be in the team. His performances are poor and he has refused to sign a new contract.
Mike Williamson had an average game today, but 1 average game in 10 isn’t good enough and he’s costing us points all the time.
4 new first team additions in January would allow us to compete against the top 4. We need to make additions in the mould of Vertonghen, Jelavic and Sigurdsson

Comment #185Kets – not sure if your being legitimate or a wind up merchant but I will respond anyway.
Anita most likely offers more going forward. We will see over the next few weeks how ready he is for the prem.
Cabaye can be incisive tent, the same as every professional player. However, Abeid?? I have never seen him but based on the fact he never features, please educate me as to why you think so highly of him.
Jonas ans santo at full back is not a bad idea. Personally I would go with a santon/Anita fb combo. It really depends on what formation we will play in the coming weeks.
Williamson was very good today and deserves praise. I am not a huge fan but give credit where it’s due.

Comment #186Williamson doesn’t deserve praise. He cost us the game again. He gave away a silly free-kick which led to their goal. He also should’ve won the header in the box.

You actually think Tiote will learn? “Hopefully he will learn from this over the next 3 games in which he won’t be playing” your comment! Tiote is a bull in a China shop all muscle and brawn no brains! also when he tries too dribble and dance around with the ball in his own have and loses it, lacks vision. So now he misses the next three games! lovely! Maybe he thinks himself a hardman? I don’t know, but if a club came in for him in the region of 10-15 million pounds I would consider selling him, he is a liablity! how many yellows and reds in his short career with NUFC? Yes he scored the famous goal against Arsenal! but I have that on dvd and can relive that another day.The game today could have went against us because of him, your view would have been different if we would have lost, I can only assume.

Comment #188Kets – The free kick was a pre meditated foul which was a smart choice at the time as it was high enough up the field to defend without a direct shot at goal.
You need to question the poor delivery by cabaye and the logic to send numbers pouring forward enabling the break away rather than the foul itself.
Still waiting a logical reason to pick Abeid. Do tell.
