CalcioMercato are today reporting the news that Newcastle United may be interested in Arsenal’s 25 year-old Swiss defender Johan Djourou.
Johan Djourou – surplus to requirements at Arsenal
Johan Djourou joined Arsenal back in 2004, and made his debut for the club against Manchester City in October of 2004.
Djourou was born in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast – but was later adopted by a Swiss woman, and they moved to Geneva when he was 17 months old – and hence his qualification to play for Switzerland.
The 6’4″ center-back is not getting many games these day at the Emirates, but he’s always looked a decent player when we’ve watched him, but the question could be – how much would he cost?
The 25 year-old has so far been capped 33 times for his country.
Interest is also reported from Italian club Napoli, but it seems he could be one of the seven center-backs Newcastle have on their shopping list for January.
And it would seem that Arsenal would be willing to let him go in January, since he now seems surplus to requirements at the London club, and one good thing is that Djourou can play at either center back, or right-back, and he has lots of experience having made 156 appearances for Arsenal.
We think this lad would be a good acquisition for Newcastle, but we wonder how much he would cost?
Any ideas?

Comment #3Ed, the source of this story isn’t CalcioMercato. The article you are referring to simply says:
“Secondo la stampa inglese su Johan Djourou, difensore svizzero classe 1987 dell’Arsenal, oltre che al Napoli piace anche al Newcastle”
http://www.calciomercato.com/mercato/napoli-djourou-occhio-al-newcastle-107726
This translates as “ACCORDING TO THE ENGLISH PRESS………….” so I think it’s best to ignore it.
