I’m surprised you lot aren’t more gutted. I know a derby point with 10 men for so long sounds acceptable but Pardew’s subs were so passive he handed them the incentive. Should have held his nerve until half time – shola dropping deeper to win more aerial battles. Then the goal came immediately after the switch.

Not normally one to criticise AP, but those subs were like waving white flags when we should have just kept things steady and let them open us up. The fist pump at the end was pretty telling.

As for Tiote’s sending ff – borderline at best, hardly a scandalous decision – so no point moaning about it.

    Two points dropped.

In hindsight, Starting perch or maybe even Bigri ahead of Tiote would have been the smarter choice.

That game has to be one of the worst referee performances I have seen in a long time. Every decision went their way and Larsson can Karate kick Shola in the chest and not even get booked but Yiote gets a straight red, complete joke

Disappointed we didn’t win. I felt the sending off was harsh. Possibly the worst Sunderland team for some time.

what made tiote get sent off today was colback …..
he was tugging tiote off balance and then steven fletcher came in….. tiote tried to get the ball but his studs were high caught fletcher and kind of sent him flying……

had so many things go against us today, I’m happy with a draw. Ref was awful, tiote was a booking max, Larson should’ve been off.
We were back to somewhere near top form today, solid defensively and “Barcelona like” on the ball according to le tissier.
We were the better side by far.

Ofc I’m gutted. Conceding an own goal late on hurts in any game, especially a derby. I’m gutted that Tiote has cost us the win too.

But, I’m proud of the rest of the team because they were brilliant at holding on today. They put their bodies on the line and give more than 110%. For that reason I’m quite happy with today.

It will only mean we’ll stuff them at home come April. 😀

dissapointed with a point really, if im honest

first 27 mins we was magnificent,

no problems at all with the red card,, some times i wonder if tiote is just a thug, because there was no need at all for that,, he is a marked man anyway, why add to his reputation

iv still got a huge problem with jonas playing 90 mins for us,, he is offering less and less with each game,, dont think we have a left side now for attacking,, when i think back on how many times he helped santon with johnson,, it wasnt many,, cabaye helped him most,,

sunderland where poor today,, they will struggle to score goals,,

felt sorry for damba by him self up front,, had 3 on him at all times,

dont like willamson, but dont blame him for the goal, he made the right choice for a player of his level, take the card and regroup

colo was outsanding,,best player on the pitch,,

wont say anything about pardew,, hate him , but he was forced to play that way today,,

Super Magpie – we don’t stuff anyone under Pardew – we look to score early then clamp down and grind out the win. Not a criticism necessarily just the way he operates – we always go defensive when in front and that invites the pressure.. nearly always hanging on when we should be pressing ahead after scoring.

Boater- you’re trying me mate because tiote’s was a yellow maybe. The ref was a bit of a joke, if he was doing it for us I would have been laughing but as it was look at the card count, we were hardly a dirty team.

The subs were excellent, steady decisions made to solidify the team, fresh legs in key positions. Perch coming on was a no-brainer when you are a cdm down. Shola on a yellow and holding up the front line? again easy decision. If we had kept 11 men HBA would have stayed on no doubt about that he was causing them massive problems, but when we went to 10 they could afford to double up on him.

Pardew knew one thing was paramount – not to lose. And for that I applaud his tactics today. They couldnt beat us with 12 men and that is the most demoralising thing that could have happened bar Demba missing his opportunity and getting that goal for them at the end.

Demba was massive today, Cabs was pretty excellent, Santon cancelled Johnson’s day, willo literally did everything right, simmo cancelled almost every cross…..

We would have done them by at least three today. they will think back to this match and know that when they come to us, they will be liable for an embarrasment.

I would like to add that I love Tiote, I love how he plays and I love his attitude towards the game but he struggles to keep his head in the game when put under pressure imo and is a little over confident in his ballerina skills

Today probably wasn’t a red but he didnt need to make that tackle at all, was a stupid mistake and one that he will learn from ideally

pardew probably did that shola sub because he knows we won’t do much more attacking and shola will probably start mid week game so why leave him on as the DM when we have perch who can play there, IMO what you saying sounds kind of like why take colo off when we only had 10 mins left and were still 1-0 ahead

Yes I know – Man U, Stoke, Bordeaux all 3-0s but they are anomalies and actually get the impression Pardew is a bit embarrassed by us winning by more than 1 goal.

Just think today we invited too much pressure with the substitutions – plenty of 10 men sides hold on to an advantage and Sunderland were so atrocious we could have afforded to keep the balance in our own side.

Actually no. In that instance I’d rather Tiote. For me Gosling doesn’t do enough and isn’t exactly a holding midfielder. He is more box to box. Whereas Perch and Bigri can play the same position and do brilliant jobs there.

No doubt you can get TOO fired up for a derby but tiote is like that all the time ha ha.

Catchy – how magnanimous of you not to blame willo for the goal. Can I add he also didnt have anything to do with the Balkan Conflict?

Tiote didnt have to challenge for the ball he was gonna get the free kick. He´s a danger to the team a times
Larsson shoulda got red for the challenge on Shola,he didnt even get booked.
If he had of got shola on the leg then he woulda got red,so wh not when he gets him on the chest?

I think tiote probably deserved to get sent off even though it wasnt “3 foot high” as that knob ray wilkins claims. Larsson deserved to be sent off just as much, karate kicking ameobi in the chest. I wonder if ameobi had rolled around on the floor as fletcher did, if larsson would have been sent off

Ironic that Clattermole’s assault on Tiote after 2 mins of our home game last year wasnt a sending off?? Yes this was. Colback was shirt pulling and holding all game although Ben Arfa was as well I suppose. They’re so lucky, but I was saying all through the game that we can’t keep giving them corners and free kicks with Larsson taking them. He puts in regular quality. Just hoped we’d last out the game.

Tiote never even went for the ball.

    hmmm

    are you sure he didnt,,

at the end of the day he plays for my team, he is no where near the quality of player we need to try and get top 10 in the prem,, thats not his fault,,

he is lucky we have the chairman we have,, cos when we do get the money to buy,, he wont get many games ,,

i have to say ,, the ref was shit today,, for both teams,, HBA was lucky to many times, and it should have been a pen when larson handled it

Very true, like many, I’ve been crying out for us to play 4-3-3 because that’s when we play our best football.
With 10 men today, I’m happy that we’ve come out with a point. Especially since it was so early in the game.

If we had of kept 11men on the pitch today. The game would’ve been over by the hour mark. We would’ve embarrassed them. We were up for it today and were let down by Tiote.
Forget the referee ( even if he was shocking). Tiote is liable to these sort of things happening. He’s got away with worse in the past and its came back to haunt him today.

Tsunki, self-appointed custodian of the blog. Seems like you’re determined to pass the buck. The Tiote decision could have gone either way, in real time it looked like a classic, needless, stonewall derby red. In close-up it seemed a tad harsh perhaps but by no means a clanger by the ref.

3-0 Really?.. we nearly always play well until scoring, then sit off and protect the lead, like I say not a criticism but highly speculative to suggest otherwise.

The subs were completely rational in theory- and self-explanatory (thanks anyway) but in practice it felt like hanging on and keeping the presence up front would have given a bad mackem side more to think about. We practically gift wrapped the ball for them at times.

Think the worst thing we done was bring on Taylor as that gave the Scum crowd a lift should have put Perch to CB and then brought Anita on

Got to be happy we never got beat but raging at Tiote because we would have pounded them so glad we never bought Johnson he is a poor mans Ben Arfa

Under Oneill Sunderland will play that way all season we will still finish higher because we have a much better team

Also really we cant defend Jonas anymore he was SHITE today the worst i have seen him cant make a pass does not win free kicks restricts Santon as well cause the young lad has to worry about him these days used to be the other way about but Santon was immense today and Simpson and Williamson were solid so much better with Colo at the back!!!

Anita Perch and Cabaye in the 3 man Midfield for next game against West Brom has to be the way forward and if we get results well Tiote should not get back in the team

Martin Atkinson put in one of the worst refereeing displays I’ve ever seen. It was comical watching the commentators trying to figure out why he’d made some of the decisions he made. And Sunderland always seemed to get the benefit of the 50/ 50s.

The stat that stands out for me is that he didn’t book a single Sunderland player… Not one.
