Most people haven’t really blamed Cheick Tiote for Newcastle failing to win the game yesterday, but the truth is that it was the Ivorian’s indiscipline that cost Newcastle 2 points, and when it happened I have to say I was very annoyed (to say the least) at the Ivory Coast International.
Cheick Tiote – oh no – straight red card
In his first season on Tyneside Cheick picked up 15 yellow cards and one red card, and Alan Pardew had to leave him out of the last few games because another yellow card and he would have been banned for another two games.
In his second season he picked up 11 yellow cards and this season he has picked up 3 yellow cards and one red card, so in his 59 appearances he has 29 yellow cards and two red cards.
That’s slightly more than one card every two games for Newcastle – and it’s not good enough.
So it’s not as if Cheick hasn’t been in trouble before with referees, and in the Senegal vs Ivory Coast game earlier this month – he should have been sent off for hitting Papiss Cisse in the first half, but the referee seemed to miss it.
And it seemed that Tiote had orders to control himself yesterday, because in the first 25 minutes he was running behind an advancing Sunderland player a couple of times, and didn’t put in a tackle from behind, and at least the TV commentator mentioned this.
But then came that tackle on Steven Fletcher and a straight red card after only 25 minutes when everything had been going so well, and we were in trouble, and it was only the courage and fortitude of the Newcastle players from then on, that we were able to get a point of the game.
But with eleven men on the field surely we would have coasted through the game, after we dominated the first 25 minutes and Sunderland were little better in that second half, although they had more of the ball simply because Newcastle tried to contain them.
Tiote must improve his self-control and discipline of the pitch, otherwise he will become too much of a liability to the team.
What do you think?

You talk about Pardew losing us points against average teams
yet in the same post you talk about how awfull 3 of our players are and how they just blast the ball forward missing our midfield, in the case why is it Pardew losting the points? haven’t you just contradicted yourself?

He will have been given a chance in training and has obviously not showed any ability or desire to start
There will be a reason why 3 managers have all decided not to play him

Hehe, i know u’re not trying to be funny, but it still is.
We’re short of strikers, well, Hooper is there, but that’s it kinda just now.
And he’s got a number on his shirt, so might aswell keep him fit.
He’s training with the first team now too.
So who knows, but for me, not likely unless forced.

Campbell slips in Xisco down the right with an inch perfect ball but Xisco scuffs it wide of the target #nufc

I’m a bit baffled why Campbell isn’t on the bench more tbh. Scores loads and provides loads, should get more chances.

Doesn’t suggest anything really, he might just have come back to fitness, who knows what going on behind the scene, all we know is that managers haven’t picked him and they know far far far more than us regarding the players.
This is all reminds me of the ‘Abeid deserves to play’ brigade

Well, he’s always training with the first team on the photos posted on the home page, so he certainly is in the first team squad.
I guess it’s about finding the oppertunities to chuck him in.
But i just cannot get myself to look beyond him.
Deserves a chance sooner rather than later.
Has an in form Ba, slightly in form Shola to beat. Cisse to, Cisse goes ahead by default imo.

Comment #1061: it was not a red card.
2: Tiote are and will be the best defensive midfielder in pl for some years and for him as an agressive player we cant complain that he is getting yellow cards cos that is who he is and how he got his respect from other teams from.
3: after asshole fletcher saw the red card he was alright and had no trouble with his leg,so send him to hollywo od.
4: Mr.Atkinson has done this before destroying derby games with sending players off early in matches.

Comment #108Seems I left a tad too early (not a tads) and missed the am i section….how sad.
So Xisco has got a goal for the reserves? Isn’t he a fully grown professional footballer that should be scoring in those games? I don’t think they intend to play him in the first team, but if we’re paying him, let’s make sure he’s ready if needed. Nothing more, nothing less.
As for not getting a chance, I don’t buy it. Perhaps he’s been a slight disadvantage, perhaps word of mouth got around so any new manager coming in automatically black listed him, maybe he just hasn’t asserted himself proper;y or shown enough skill or determination to make people take note. Remind me, how many goals and games did he get in the Spanish 2nd division?

I think u just disagree with me to wind me up at times haha. No manager has rated the lad because he got KK sacked? None of them cared post Keagan really JFK, Shearer, Hoots and Pards dont look at the bloke and think ‘classy player but got Keagan sacked best not play him’
He’s just not good enough
As for Bigi over Abied I’d just throw in attitude, experience, work ethic and teams needs….Id put Bigi above Abied in all of those

Abeid is a bit of a mystery, but there are those players who thinks they deserve a chance just for the sake of it, a bit spoiled in a way really.
So that could be in Abeids way.
If it is that, hopefully he lands on earth and realises what he’s got to do.

Comment #118was I gone long enough? did i miss yesterday’s assumed chaos on here?
my thoughts on the match, after just watching it a second time:
blah
trying not to look negatively considering the expectation, the red card, etc, but from the second tiote was off we did not have one meaningful spell of possession. yeah we were fighting to keep hold of the win but a little more impetus, a little more adventure would have been welcome. they’re a bottom half team, rivalry aside. substitutions were predictable. perch is great at tackling, which solidifies my belief that he should be ahead of williamson in the CB pecking order. I really dislike him at DCM.
other thoughts
-obertan really transformed the game in the last ten minutes or so (not)
– anita must be way down pardew’s pecking order. seems to have no trust in his ability. surely he warrants a decent run at his best position of DM?
-tiote’s mandatory sedative injections before the matches of late aren’t working. time to ramp up the dosage or let him rage from the sideline…on a leash.
-sunderland are a pretty s*** team. not too sure the difference between this year and last year but they seemed miles better last year. we should have shown a bit more endeavor, even with ten men.
-colo’s back! 😀

Comment #120On Abeid, he does look a good player and I can’t help but think if he was performing and carrying out instruction from Pardew, he’s be getting more game time. It’s a guess, but I’m putting it down to his attitude over his skills.
