Yohan Cabaye showed all his technical skills and technique when he hit that loose ball perfectly with his right foot into the back of the net after only 3 minutes at Sunderland on Sunday, and it was so nearly the winning goal for the Magpies.
Yohan Cabaye – after scoring his goal on Sunday
But as we all know, Sunderland got a lucky own goal and it wasn’t to be, but the performance from Newcastle in that game was first class, and hopefully it augers well for the future.
Cabaye has said the following in the local press today:
“I was really happy to score my first goal of the season and my first derby goal. It’s the best moment since I came to Newcastle.” “It was a great moment and when I saw the fans, they were going crazy so for me, it was a really good start.”
“I know how important this match is for the club, for the fans, for the city, for everyone who supports Newcastle.” “I play for Newcastle so for me, the goal is really important.” “It means everything for everyone, and for me.”
As well as Yohan’s first goal this season, he also showed some good form and he’s a very important player, who’s not been at his best so far this season, after a gruelling summer playing for France at the Euro 2012 tournament.
But the good news is that he’s coming back nicely, and in fact the performance on Sunday was probably the best Newcastle have given so far this season, and we hope they can keep it up and get two wins this week against Club Brugge on Thursday night and West Brom on Sunday – with both games being played at St. James’ Park.
That would help to lift the spirits on Tyneside.

Comment #3I can see Cabaye moving in a year or two, when he’s at his peak form and clubs are willing to pay 25m for him. Same goes to Ben Arfa.
