Newcastle After One Of Europe’s Top Youngsters

Newcastle have today been linked – along with Arsenal and Manchester City – with 16 year old Dutch youngster Riechedly Bazoer, who is considering whether to sign a three year professional contract at PSV Eindhoven, but he may choose to sign for one of the three English clubs who are  interested. The report is in the Daily Mail.

Riechedly Bazoer – Newcastle interested in 16 year-old?

PSV’s Sporting Director, Marcel Brands, thinks the youngster may try his luck elsewhere, and there’s also interest in him from Spain and Italy.

This is what Brands had to say:

“We have offered him a professional contract now he has turned 16. I speak with the family, the boy and his agents. We hope we will get an answer soon,” Brands explained to Goal.com, adding, “What is his intention? Is it to develop or go for bigger money in England?”

“You have to ask him and his agent which clubs are interested in him. I don’t know and it doesn’t matter.” “He is one of the talented players in our youth academy. He is a central defender, although not a typical central defender. He is not tall and plays football like the way we do in Holland. He is very comfortable on the ball and reads the game well.”

“It is his choice and the agent will do their best for the player. The only thing we can do is offer him good possibilities in terms of coaching and prospects,” he concluded, warning player and agent, “It’s difficult in England to reach the first team of the big clubs after joining out of the youth academy.”

“A lot of young players from Holland went to England and have not yet played in the first team. Many of them ended up being loaned out to other clubs.”

Bazoer has so far played 8 times for the for the Dutch U17 side and he currently plays on the youth team at PSV.

We don’t know if this report is true, and there was a report that Newcastle would not sign any youngsters until they were at least 18 years of age, so if that report was true, this one may not be.

Newcastle have had very little success when we have signed young players under 18 such as 15 year-old Aaron Spear and 17 year-old Ben Tozer, who just didn’t make it at the club.

What do you think?

Seems the kind of player we’re looking for. Let’s see how good the board are at attracting this young talent we’re putting emphasis on.

Will also add, it must be a good factor for young players to be seeing so many young players getting a chance at Newcastle under Pardew. There are many good youth players sitting at these “big clubs” not being able to get games and are suffering because of it. For me, a young players priority should be to get as much professional playing time as possible, at as good a club as possible – without trying to be too biased, that sounds a lot like Newcastle at the minute. Better than mid-table, not quite top team, but pushing on and giving the kids their chance. If they have aspirations to move on to bigger and better things (ouch, hurts to type that), then we would also give them the platform to showcase what they can do. Seems a win win for now, would be nice to think we could retain some of the talent though.

Damn it Ed, slow down will you 😀

…read this one earlier today – don’t know him but if we values his talent he’ll stay in Holland and stay clear of the likes of Citeh, Pool and Cheski.

Heard a rumor a while back that we would not be signing any under 18 anytime soon!

jawball…Do you mean ‘over the line’? 🙂

Jesper….Damn it…keep up will you. Perceptions, opinions, all fun stuff 🙂 Wasn’t it Derek who said we were scrapping the under 18 purchases? Seemed odd and i can’t remember the reasoning tbh. Wasn’t it emphasis on under 18’s a year ago?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, don’t listen to Derek, he talks rubbish the majority of the time.

I’d be dubious of signing them too young like this lad after the last few we signed at that age didn’t work out. I say go for kids around goods age at 18/19

I think the “not signing under 18” thing u’re talking about is being interpretered the wrong way.
All that has been said is that we’ll struggle to get them due to other big clubs able to offer better conditions to youngsters, so we revert our attention to 18+.
To say that we won’t be signing 16 year olds is not true, and if it was, it’d damage long term building.

Jesper….You may well be right there. I never fully take on what he says and he’s a dangerous one to try and read between the lines with – I often wonder if there is anything of any substance in his mingling with the fans statements.

I think most people are relatively happy just to let Pardew be the mouth piece, I certainly don’t need to hear too much more from Derek.

I am no fan of kids trafficing in football anyway just because of the rule of homegrown players under 21!

Dannyo….Now there’s a sensible use of reading between the lines. Has there been anymore of Xiscos statue thats to be erected outside SJP after his reserve heroics?

Rainrix…To get the best upcoming talent without paying over the odds, we’re going to have to take some risks imo or we will miss out. They wont all come through, that’s a given, but the ones that do should help push us on.

Ibiza… To be fair though our academy kids should be filling the gaps of 18 and under. Then we defiantly should spend money on kids who have great potential who are aged over 18. I just feel its too much pressure for a young kid coming from abroad, especially like this one who seems to be attracting attention.

He does indeed seem to talk quite a bit of bollocks and yet ironically we complain we don’t get enough of it.

Rainrix…I don’t think there should be any one age group that we solely focus on (not implying that’s what you meant). If the talent is there, bring them in imo. However, if we can continue to pick up Biggy type players, I wont be complaining about a lack of 16 year olds.

Anyone else thinking that Titus may have visited Holland 16 (make that 17) years ago?
