We included some comments from Danny Simpson in an earlier article today, and whenever we do, we always wonder what the situation is with Danny’s contract at Newcastle – which of course runs out next June. And while we’re on contracts, what’s the deal with getting Demba Ba a new contract at Newcastle?
Demba Ba – will he leave in January?
If Danny doesn’t sign a new deal to stay at Newcastle soon, then he could leave for free next summer, and other clubs can start to talk to him in January about a new contract, and he can even sign a pre-contract deal in January, which ties him to another club until he signs for them next summer, after his contract runs out on Tyneside.
And we’ve noticed over the last few months that Danny is probably a better player than a lot of us give him credit for, and since he’s come back he’s put in two solid games for Newcastle, and we’d like to see him stay on Tyneside.
But of course if he wants to get better money elsewhere then so be it – he should leave and the same goes for Demba Ba.
We don’t care how good a player is – and Demba Ba is very very good – if they don’t want to stay and play for Newcastle, then there’s no point arguing about it and they should be allowed to leave.
That may happen with Simpson next summer and Demba Ba even as early as January – if he exercises that release clause in his contract – and Newcastle will get very little for him if that happens.
But in truth we’d just love both players to sign new long-term deals to stay on Tyneside and help with Newcastle’s revival back to the big time – like getting back into the Champions League on a regular basis – that will be hard but it’s still possible.
