Will Simpson And Demba Ba Sign New Contracts Soon?

9:37 am, Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 9 Comments

We included some comments from Danny Simpson in an earlier article today, and whenever we do, we always wonder what the situation is with Danny’s contract at Newcastle – which of course runs out next June. And while we’re on contracts, what’s the deal with getting Demba Ba a new contract at Newcastle?

Demba Ba – will he leave in January?

If Danny doesn’t sign a new deal to stay at Newcastle soon, then he could leave for free next summer, and other clubs can start to talk to him in January about a new contract, and he can even sign a pre-contract deal in January, which ties him to another club until he signs for them next summer, after his contract runs out on Tyneside.

And we’ve noticed over the last few months that Danny is probably a better player than a lot of us give him credit for, and since he’s come back he’s put in two solid games for Newcastle, and we’d like to see him stay on Tyneside.

But of course if he wants to get better money elsewhere then so be it – he should leave and the same goes for Demba Ba.

We don’t care how good a player is – and Demba Ba is very very good – if they don’t want to stay and play for Newcastle, then there’s no point arguing about it and they should be allowed to leave.

That may happen with Simpson next summer and Demba Ba even as early as January – if he exercises that release clause in his contract – and Newcastle will get very little for him if that happens.

But in truth we’d just love both players to sign new long-term deals to stay on Tyneside and help with Newcastle’s revival back to the big time – like getting back into the Champions League on a regular basis – that will be hard but it’s still possible.

What do you think?

Simmo is off for sure, I’m afraid his days as a regular are numbered one way or another. I still think a compromise can be reached with Demba though, he’s at the right club already.

I hope so. At it stands, they are two very important players for us and I can’t really see us getting the money we would need to replace them efficiently (considering Simmo is in his final year and Ba is rumoured to have a £7m clause, what would we get for the two £8 – 10m ish?).

For me, this isn’t like letting Guthrie go, he was a good bench player, these are both starters.

I think right back has been earmarked for an upgrade for some time and Simmo not unreasonably believes he deserves more readies, so it’s tricky, although if Simmo continues to perform and improve then just maybe he’ll get his dough. I don’t think he’ll sign the deal on offer at the minute though.

    Ibiza…I certainly do care :-)

…and this is what I think; Ba will sign a new contract before January or just after, but Simmo will be leaving (he rate himself higher than the club does) Debuchy will sign in January!

…you can quote me on this :-)

Jawball and Jesper….Seem likely scenarios. The upshot is, January is going to be stressful as hell for us fans.

    Can’t wait.

    P.S. Jesper….new thread yet again :)

…and if Ba leaves maybe then we’ll be playing alot more 4-3-3. Remember nothing is as bad thatot is not good forsomething (at least that is a Danish saying) :-)

Simmo is too big for his own boots! His ego has swollen that much he’s putting money before the club. He was offered £25k but wants more-he who said he can’t manage on 10k a week! Greedy sod. He’s not that good and should move on

It’s vitally important that we give Ba a new contract. He is one of the best strikers in the league.

We should try and offload Simpson for £500,000 in January.

I think Ba must leave in January in 100%.
