All Players Fit – Pardew To Play Strong Side

Alan Pardew has said today that all his players are fit and that he will send a strong side out against Club Brugge at St. James’ Park tonight,  in an effort to win the game, and continue the momentum we picked up, with the lads’ courageous display at Sunderland last Sunday.

Papiss Cisse – likely to start tonight

Alan had this to say this morning in the local press:

“All my players are fit, so I will name a strong team, but there is an element of youth and energy in it and that will be reflected on the pitch, with a bit of luck.” “Sammy and Shane will definitely start. I’ve said all along that they are the two closest to breaking through into this group, in my opinion.”

“They’ve got an opportunity tonight because this is a game that I need to win.” “I’m not putting them in as building blocks, they have to come in and show me that they can play in the first team and win games.”

“There’s a big emphasis on them tonight – a lot of pressure on them.”

This may be the team tonight, after studying the hints Alan has given over the last couple of days:

Tavernier Perch Taylor (S) Anita
Obertan Tiote Bigirimana Ferguson
Ameobi (Sh) Cisse

With Papiss Cisse almost certain to get a start, we’re not sure how both Ameobi’s will start the game tonight – unless Sammy gets a start in one of the two wing positions.

What’s your side for tonight?

I would start the team Ed has listed apart from Cisse. I’ll start Sammy in his place and then shuffle team in the second half. Replace Oba with Sammy and bring Cisse in.

On a side note – Pardew should try Oba as a striker in one of the europa games

In the last post Pardeau is all “Doom & Gloom” and negative – this post he is waxing lyrical on our prospects – is he smoking something he maybe shouldn’t be?? lol

I’ve gone to read up a little about Club Brugge, mainly for my preparation for my reign as Palermo manager in FM 13. But from what I’ve read about Club Brugge, they are no jokes and are to be taken seriously. They’ve been flying in the Belgium League, almost like our start last season with their first loss being last weekend. There’s also this Colombian striker whose strike rate has been pretty good recently at about 10+ goals thus far. We should proceed with cautious optimism.

Does anybody know how many teams in modern football have won either the CL or EL playing 4-4-2 british style (or even been a contender)?

By the way Ajax beat Citeh last night 3-1, but unlike us they fielded a very strong side (more or less their best side).

…I have said it before complecency is a problem at NUFC (it is the whole thinking of football that needs a overhaul if we are to compete). Modern football has moved on from Britain a long time ago (those who seem to follow are the rich clubs and those who think modern)

The question is what will NUFC do in the long run?

I’d really prefer to see young Fergie played in his natural left wing role, when he’s been brought on in the last sort of 10/15mins against Man U in the cup & Reading in the league he’s got the job done with his crossing from the lw position. imagine 90mins of him doing that our striker would think xmas had come early! He works his ass off @ LB but it’s not what Shane’o’ is made for. Maybe Sammy needs a few more senior bashes at the 2nd forward role to.

I think we’ll win tonight but remember Cabaye will surely be rested and he was a big part of so much of our positive play against Bordeaux. In fact he brought the best out of Obertan.

Hopefully we sore in the first half and they offer little, I’d be shocked to see us do anything other than win tonight.

Whilst Belgian football is on the rise, Brugge’s fortune’s are yet t reflect this. They’re not a great side despite being top of the league.

Should be a straightforward game tonight

    My view:

Not too worried about Bruge, yes they’re top of the Belgian league which is generally of average quality but they’ve shipped as many goals away as they scored (11) – in a poor league you would have to say thats not great
Hopefully an early goal for us and then can get a few against them and put ourselves on easy street to qualify (given we have Maritimo at home to come)

obertan should be played on the left with fergie backing him up just like against Bordeaux.

put Sammy on the right wing & let him cut in to shoot & cross!

Based on the notion (straight from AP’s lips) that Shola, Sammy, Fergie & Tiote will start, I think this will be our side:

Bench: Krul, Tav, Perch, Santon, Amalfitano, Marveaux, Campbell

Rest: Colo, Cabaye, Simpson, HBA, Jonas, Ba

Strong starting XI. A little weak on the bench.
