With the emergence of Fergy and Sammy, our squad doesn’t look as paper thin anymore tbh.
They are players we can rely on now.

  • 2 Magpie from Lithuania // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:27 PM

I bet Obertan started taking Ba’s strawberry syrup lately :D

  • 3 archaeomag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:30 PM

ED: Quick work – Good link thanks

  • 4 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:33 PM

Well – ive voted for Obertan, ive slated the kid and he rammed my words down my throat tonight. That does not mean myself and many other fans were wrong as he has looked abysmal at times. Im man enough to admit it just like he manned up tonight. Over the moon for you gabby you followed on fron the Bordeaux game now do it in the premier league when you get the chance.

  • 5 Carryingcoals // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:34 PM

Dannyo… I agree. If a fullback gets injured we have people who can cover nicely.

What did you think of Tiote tonight, I was pretty underwhelmed..

  • 6 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:35 PM

over all 4 players stood out for me today and this is what i made of them 4
    1. sammy he such a fast paced MF/forward and today had some excellent creation for the chances and no matter how many players were coming at him he did excellent keeping hold of the ball and finding the right pass and is my MOTM
2.ferguson his link up was superb especially while obatan was on his side and if he continues to act like he is i get a sense he could be newcastles baines
3.obatan might not have good crosses but i think this goal could be a turning point in how he does, not all wide men do good crossing the ball some like him and HBA are designed more in a style where they run in at the goal themselves or make a short pass to someone, last season he was starting games which mostly contained a tall forward (best) and a forward who does little movment and instead just shoots whatever ball reaches him where as these europa league game our midfield has did much more aggressive play which helps obatan gain more space for the run into the box.
finally 4 saylor what i like best about him today was the way he performed as captain and i think that premier league game which we are missing colo he would make a better captain that jonas because taylor like colo knows the defences is important and he will be around for the things that need most command where as jonas is all over so can be so easilly too busy with other things to keep the organisation of defence and set pieces which i find is what captain main command occur.

Many many positives agree with most comments anout Sammy, Fergy and Obertan looking good.

But I’m starting to get more than a little concerned with the form of Cisse. It’s so strange that Ba and Cisse can’t seem to reach form at the same time, heaven help defences if they ever do.

  • 8 Rowan Milsted // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:38 PM

    hotdog

Fair play to ya. It’s strange because he is still rubbish at times, end product awful. Then suddenly he moves across the pitch, opens space for others and when he gets on the ball via a counter attack and gets in that channel – well, I don’t need to tell you! Will probably always be frustrating but is a potential match winner. Good value for £3 too.

  • 9 Rowan Milsted // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:38 PM

Oops, meant £3m. £3 would have been a real bargain!

  • 10 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:40 PM

Tiote didnt have a good game tonight and was wayward with a number of passes but he didnt hide. That is the sign of a good player when things aint going well you still look for the ball, thats why his team mates and manager speak highly of him imo.

  • 11 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:40 PM

Whoever operates Obertan from the stands, must have changed the batteries in their controller at half-time.

  • 12 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:41 PM

    @Carrying
It looked like the red was on his mind a little bit tbh.
He passed more than any other player and had the greatest influence on our play, statistically.
But his mind was somewhat absent, he wasn’t “turned on” in the same way.

  • 13 tequilamag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:44 PM

Ruddy is that your way of saying you were wrong about Obertan ?

  • 14 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:45 PM

rowan – as i said earlier he didnt do much with the ball in the first half but his movement was clever to create space for fergy. There was a point in the second half and he had four men around him on the wing, he tried to keep it and lost it. Now in the past he would have given it up but tonight he slid in and wanted to win the ball back for the team and shola broke. That speaks volumes for me, more than his goal, he is prepared to do the graft tonight, not just running down the line with it but working for the team to win it back.

  • 15 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:47 PM

No, he performed as I earlier described, in the 1st half.

  • 16 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:48 PM

well goodnight all and back probably sunday wen we face westbrom
    HWTL

  • 18 Blaydon-Toon // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:51 PM

Did not see the game as stuck at work and will watch in the morning when I get in … Just seen the goal great play by Sammy and what a cracking finish by Oba !

  • 19 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:52 PM

im off too, its been emotional :-)

  • 20 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:59 PM

Sammy was fantastic tonight especially girst half great to see him back!
Gabby had a good game europa league may well be the making of this lad
    Fergie anothet good game
Bigi looks a real athlete full of raw
But MOTM is santon what a player this boy is turning into! Can play on the left play on the right solid defensivly and lightning quick going forward!

    On the otherside
Cisse got worse as the game went on probably due to frustration
Tiote looks really rattled, did some great stuff tonight but was usually followed by something very sloppy
Anita only played 45mins and didnt really see the lad

  • 21 WWYCD // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:01 PM

So who is everyone high on after that?

Fergy, Bigi and Santon impressed me. Though Cisse, Tiote, Anita and Sammy were poor. Everyone else was average for me

  • 22 Tsunki // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:02 PM

Well I had to be elsewhere tonight so didnt actually catch any of the game, will look at the highlights later.

What I did learn from catching up on the posts is that the negative posters really pour it on when we play an experimental side and cant wait to jump on anyone who isnt a regular player and isnt bang on form, as if this will prove their agenda that all is not well at the club.Sad and predictable.

Also it signals the time for the mackems and trolls to talk utter rubbish. And Ketsy but in his case he’s always off key.

Fake Ruddy – how embarrassing that you seem to be blissfully unaware how pathetic your posts make you look – everyone and I mean everyone knows you are using another posters’ name to be a nuisance. You are known also as beardo, a mackem who keeps going with his stupid and creepy ‘joke’ persona.

In summary, I would say that the percentage of pseudo-fans present on the blog in these sorts of games rises from about 5% to 50-60%. Knowing this, I will most likely not come on this blog until proper match days when sense has the upper hand. Good night numb nuts and trolls.

Disagree about taylor he shouldnt be near the arm band and shouldnt have just cos he’s a local lad
Hes not overly dominating at the back and constantly makes himself look like a top class pratt with dumb interviews

  • 24 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:08 PM

    Tsunki

Get over it. Really, you seem so caught up on my name – that was months ago.

  • 25 Tsunki // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:11 PM

Fake Ruddy -so why are you still using another posters name? You make no where near the sense the real one did. Plus its just wrong, you are just a troll arent you?

  • 26 BelfastMagpie // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:12 PM

Its all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

  • 29 Nufc-83 // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:18 PM

Wwycd im guessing your joking about sammy.

  • 30 Carryingcoals // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:18 PM

    tads

Fully agree with your posts. Good point raised about Taylor too.

Playing Anita, Tiote and Bigi restricted us tonight somewhat though, whilst Tiote made the odd good pass, we spurned possession a lot and failed to create with through balls from midfield.

Big let off that the colombian striker headed over the bar from point blank range.

  • 31 Tsunki // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:22 PM

Just had to mention this – Nufc-83 -who has jimmymagpie come back as?

  • 32 WWYCD // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:23 PM

    Nufc-83
Not at all, thought he was disappointing I have seen him play far better looking for passes and making better decisions.

Ran into trouble a lot ignored his full back in the first half and was selfish when he could of passed for either striker in miles of space. Maybe he wasen’t poor all things considered but wouldn’t say it was a great performance from the kid

  • 33 Nufc-83 // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:25 PM

Tsunki wouldn’t know tbh as hardly been on the last 3 weeks but im sure he will be reading this.

  • 34 WWYCD // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:25 PM

Having a bad night lad? Not seeming too chuffed haha

  • 35 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:26 PM

    ‘The real one’

    Boohoo.

  • 36 Nufc-83 // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Lol sammy looked the best player on the pitch easily beating his man and winning fks in dangerous areas because they couldn’t handle him. Set the goal up superbly and he is one of our youngsters breaking through yet still getting it in the neck. Face palm comes to mind

  • 37 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:29 PM

    Carrying
Aye that colombian lad and that lestienne looked a cracking pair of players

Dont really think there was a need for 3 in CM tonight but seeing as there was i would of rather bigi or tiote on the bench with amalfitano in front of them as the tiote bigi n anita were almost tripping over each other!
None if them really seemed to know who was supposed to be where having said that it was an experimental team with a Midfield that have never played a competitve game together so 3 points is a great result

  • 38 Big Pappa Cissé // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:30 PM

Sammy makes Vuckic look like a bum, harsh but true

Aye I hate that too bloody people having differing opinions. For the record I really like Sammy but I have seen him play better against tougher opposition so I expected more from him…sue me

Also at no point did he get it in the neck from me

  • 41 Carryingcoals // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:34 PM

    WWYCD

I wouldn’t dismiss what you’ve said about Sammy but I’d still maintain he had a good night. He played positively with flair and he constantly looked to make things happen. He was a poor mans Ben Arfa tonight you could say!

You’re right though, he used the wrong option at times. He tried to do too much and missed out on better options, Ben Arfa can be guilty of this at times too.

I would say though that he benefited us tonight and he was definitely one of the better players on our side.

Another good performances and show in the lads development.

What I like about him and Fergie is they are quite fearless. They look to make things happen, take risks and when the mug up, they come back for more and try it again. Their heads don’t go down and they give you 100%.

I do however think we should be careful not to overstate Sammy’s performance tonight, but certainly more good than bad.

  • 42 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:34 PM

    YO
Thought sammy had a really good first half started to slow down in the second but was his first game back from injury!

Thr problem is you’ve beem spoilt with perfomances by ameobis for years so the first one thats not 110% your all over ya negative b@stard!!! ;)
By the way planning for the 350,000 stadiums come through i’ll ask kets to start monday!

I love how I can get your backs up just by being present, doing absolutely nothing to provoke it.

    Sweet dreams are mackem prince!

Anyway fella’s im off, will sleep on the game before writing anything up. Absolutely shattered!

    …Walking in a Pardew wonderland … (too soon :D )

  • 47 Peter Beardsley // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:41 PM

I’ve got this theory, now open your mind up real wide; maybe Cisse and Ba are the same person? I mean has anyone seen them both turn up on the pitch at the same time? either one or the other!

  • 48 WWYCD // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:45 PM

    Carryingcoals
Aye I concede he was one of the few looking to attack but his decision making tonight, for me, was a lot poorer than how he normally plays. Poor mans HBA is probably about right but I would say Benny when being doubled up or trebled up on doesn’t continue going it alone

Could be a case that my expectations were too high for what he offered tonight but I think he had a couple of chances to kill the game off just by making a pass and didnt do so which got on my nerves a bit tbh, still gave the lad a standing ovation because he is young, learning and was trying to impress (a bit too much imo)

Was also held back by the general set up of the team as well which, again, I concede (3 CDM is never going to be great for any attack) still Fergy shone and for me Sammy looked very green

    toonarmydownsouth
Is it his first game back from injury? Been fit for awhile now I thought been playing under21s no?

Haha true Shola has set my Ameobi meter sky high Sammy must live up to this ;) On a side note thought Shola played very well thought the ref was tough on him tbh

  • 49 WWYCD // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:47 PM

Was anyone involved in the (am guessing) fighting that took place pre match? I saw police bolting in and pushing NUFC fans away then the Brugge lads were frog marched into the ground

  • 50 Big Pappa Cissé // Oct 25, 2012 at 11:53 PM

    @ Peter Beardsley

Go and watch the West Brom away game last season and you will have your answer
