Newcastle Make Nine Changes – Sammy Ameobi Starts

7:05 pm, Thursday, October 25th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 297 Comments

Newcastle make nine changes from the side that drew with Sunderland on Sunday at the Stadium of Light.

Sammy Ameobi starts, as does Papiss Cisse and as expected Gael Bigirimana and Cheick Tiote are paired together in central midfield.

And it looks like Newcastle will play a 4-3-3 formation tonight, with Vurnon Anita making up the numbers in midfield, and Cisse, Ameobi and Obertan the three up front.

Steve Harper returns in goal, but Davide Santon is at right back when we though James Tavernier may get a game.

Shane Ferguson starts but it looks like he’s at left back tonight, and as expected James Perch and Steven Taylor are the two center halfs.
he subs bench too.

The bench is full of experience with Tim Krul, Fab Coloccini, Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi and Demba Ba, and 17 year-old Adam Campbell also gets on the subs bench tonight.

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-3-3): Steve Harper; Davide Santon, Steven Taylor, James Perch, Shane Ferguson; Gael Bigirimana, Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita; Gabriel Obertan, Papiss Cisse, Sammy Ameobi
Substitutes: Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Adam Campbell, Shola Ameobi, Demba Ba

Club Brugge (4-3-3): Bojan Jorgacevic; Tom Hogli, Carl Hoefkens (c), Jordi, Bart Buysse; Vadis Odjidja, Jonathan Blondel, Jesper Jorgensen; Lior Refaelov, Carlos Bacca, Maxime Lestienne
Substitutes: Vladan Kujovic, Jannes Vansteenkiste, Bjorn Engels, Victor Vazquez, Thibaut van Acker, Ivan Trickovski, Bjorn Vleminckx

    Howay The Lads!!!!!

Hoping for a good game – no pressure though lads.

  • 2 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:08 PM

One of my favorite things about this lineup:

    Steven Taylor captains.
    Mr. Newcastle himself :)

  • 3 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:08 PM

    3 points!

  • 4 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:08 PM

never thought of 4-3-3 too much 4-4-2 before today
but now i think about it i would say we are going to have a dimond set up. 4-2-1-3 and while anita comes down the middle bigi and tiote can cover while santon and fergie go wide along with obatan and sammy while the otherside assist cisse in the box at the same time

  • 5 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:08 PM

Steven Taylor is captain for the game.

  • 6 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Sorry Dannyo. I’ll sit down, my ITK stint is well and truly over.

    Cisse hatrick?

  • 8 archaeomag // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Agressive line up, bags of pace – but not a lot going on the hair front.

tads with his big call and ruining the new thread already….phhh

    Too slow fatso!
I taught Cwarr everything he knows.

    Sorry bizzle cant help it

  • 13 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:10 PM

archaeomag…Is this some form of punishment?

  • 14 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:11 PM

I was thinking this side has shitloads of pace too.
And if it all goes sour, there’s shitloads more on the bench.

And btw, we’re not bothered about defenders tonight i see.
Collo only defender on the bench.

  • 15 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:11 PM

Dannyo…No need to make it personal. I’m just retaining water…

and on cwarr…you must be so proud :)

Awesome midfield !! Howl on before the first yellow card

  • 18 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:12 PM

    Dannyo
Good for him but more important to play the full 90, he was looking a bit niel ruddock against the mackems if you catch my drift!

  • 19 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:13 PM

On a side note i hope the rich russians stuff the bindippers tonight!

  • 20 archaeomag // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:13 PM

    @Ibiza
    I thought as group we needed Hair therapy;

If anyone wants to get over Andy Carroll – just think of him with his hair in bunches, with bobbles in West Ham colours.

    It’s transformational.

  • 21 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:14 PM

Did I miss the press release today of what STaylor would rather do than wear a Brugge top?

as for premier league games i think two things might have changed to our league line up i get the feeling that shola and willo might become starters to the league team.

  • 25 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:17 PM

    @Ibiza
U’re right, i apoligize, i went entirely too far with that comment.
    I’ve taught Cwarr naught.

    @tads
Aye, he’ll need those 90 mins imo.

  • 26 archaeomag // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:18 PM

    . .see it works
[don't think of Colo playing with a pork pie hat sat on the top of his barnet - it is too strong]

  • 27 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:18 PM

toonking…Interesting. Think Pardew is wanting to take the EL more serious? Might just be a one off, we’re home, no travel issues? Think we’ll still see an extremely mixed side in the away games, hopefully we’ll be sitting pretty comfortably by then, so the young lads can play with some freedom.

  • 28 yorkymag // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:18 PM

Toon king agree on Shola surely not on willio very average no culture wastes the ball far too much

  • 29 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:20 PM

Dannyo…S’alright mate. Nothing a couple of years of therapy wont sort out :)

    archaeomag…It does indeed.

can anyone give me a good site for watching the match, firstrowsports is playing up! and, if theres any technical minded fans out there, im getting an about:blank error message on all my sites on google chrome after loading, seems like a virus im guessing! I can use internet explorer though so at least should be able to watch the match!! someone help!! HWTL

  • 32 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:24 PM

Marveux can’t be happy atm tho, altho he’s had no good games yet this season, must be causing some issues.
    Hopefully he’ll come through.
    It’s not like we’re lacking wingers tbh…

  • 33 Rowan Milsted // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:26 PM

I like that team, good to see a strong bench too. Bennhy/Ba to the rescue if things aren’t going well. Vital playing time for Anita, Bigirimana, Ferguson and Sammy. Can’t wait to see him back in action! And as for Saylor captaining the side… bliss. C’mon boys, 2 wins before Monday and I’ll be dancing in the streets like a tit.

  • 34 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:28 PM

yorkymag where my saylor being dropped is come from is IMO i can’t see a reason pardew would risk a player prone to injury today while willo was on the bench and plus his performance on sunday with colo while we had ten men was so good. who knows.

  • 35 Ketsbaia9 // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:28 PM

Tavernier’s been dropped and deservedly so. That guy’s nearly worse than Simpson. Abeid should’ve been starting today.

  • 43 rainrix // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:36 PM

Looking forward to seeing what anita can do in cm. Hopefully he’ll be playing in that cm area between amf and dm. Either way we’ll need to rely on wing play alot so fergie and santon need to support sammy and squidward :)

  • 44 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:38 PM

  • 51 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:47 PM

Has marvoux featured since he left the club early so couldn’t take his place on the bench that game shola got injured in the warm up?

Also any idea what abeid has done? He featured very heavily pre season and looked good.

My only guess is that pardew isn’t impressed with their attitudes.

  • 52 h0sta // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:49 PM

wtf? where is marve? is he injured again?he was absolutely superb prospect in every (except one-substitued at half time against everton imo) game he has played, he has serious injury behind him and need games…every time i see him in starting line up i´m as thrilled as i´m when ryan taylor steps up for free kick :)

any other poor people on here that cant afford sky/espn got a link with the build up on??

all im finding is links to other games or streams that say unfortunately blah blah blah…….

  • 54 check the toastie // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:50 PM

Personally would have played Tav instead of Santon, Santon has pretty much played all the games and for me is super important to our team, hope he comes through the game unscathed.

Super team and super setup, hope the lads can deliver and prove to Pardew that attacking full backs plus a bit of pace is the way to go, Really looking forward to the game, would be happy with this team in the PL to be fair, no Simmo, no Jonas, the two who have held us back for me over the last 6 months or so.

Campbell must be chuffed to be on the bench with all the big hitters. Pards must really rate the kid, good stuff.

  • 55 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:50 PM

Didnt he play a europa game after that?
But yeah cant see why else niether are in the squad for cup games at the very least

  • 57 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:52 PM

    @hosta
There are some rumours of him being not happy with game time.
But AP values hard work, and if Marveux is not applying himself, u wont see him on the pitch.

  • 58 Gateshead-Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:52 PM

    check

i think hes playing santon to get another look at him on the right with fergie on the left as the man utd game wasnt the best game to make a judgement on

  • 59 rainrix // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:53 PM

    Tads… Makes a change from jonas i guess :)

  • 60 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:54 PM

    @check
Agree on all three points :)
Bit dissapointed not to see Tav, he might be making mistakes, but he’s a defender stepping up at top level.
His mistakes are more noticable than those of a striker and a midfielder.

  • 64 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2012 at 7:57 PM

I think our team is similar to evertons. Talented but also relies on hard work.

Therefore I would say a players attitude and work rate is as important as their technical skill.

Obviously need a certain level of both but there’s nothing I dislike more in football than a player who doesn’t play for the team.

That annoys people enough playing some friendly five a side, never mind a top level game.

that´s shame if true..hba,cisse, marve was my starting choice in 4-3-3 because both AW are more than capable to beat def, killer pass and counter…well have a fighting spirit is more important i have to say :)

    @hosta
Ye, we’ve seen what Marveux can do, but much like HBA coming back from injury, he needs to perform like that consistantly to deserve a spot.
I have faith that he’ll come through, but he’ll need to work hard to make it.

  • 120 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:52 PM

Tiote has a below average start to a season (same as many in our squad) and then gets a very harsh sending off

Half of you lot say he’s shit and an idiot, before the season started you were probably syaing he was worth 25 mil and could get in any prem team

    How fickle can you be?!?!

    Morons!

  • 121 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:53 PM

No real cutting edge as yet. Plenty of the ball but not done anything with it.
Sammy got all the tricks but got to have an end product. He can beat 2 or 3 the whole game but if it comes to nowt it means nowt.

    Half Time Observation

    1) Obertan is useless. got the ball at good areas but his passing is poor

    2) Anita is almost anonymous

    3) Sammy look lively – in both left and right side

    4) Fergie also look good. but from his face, he prefer to play left wing that left back

Not me. Never bought into the narrative that’s been constructed by the fans, regarding him. He’s almost as bad as Clattermole.

  • 126 archaeomag // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Obertan is making runs that are giving Ferguson the space to cross, which at the moment is our best route into their box.

  • 127 yorkymag // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Tiote is modern day Wilkins backwards and sideways never forward punctuated by the odd foul or two well over rated

  • 128 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:56 PM

i think we will see bruge come at us in the second half.

fergy and sammi the pic in the first half. i cant see what anita brings to the party in midfield, he looks better at full back for me. agree with waddler get hatem on for one of those central three

  • 129 check the toastie // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Starting to have my doubts with Tiote, how much time on the ball does he want, he is having a mare currently.

Would leave it for 20 minutes then bring Cabaye and Benny on for any 2 of Tiote Bigi or Anita, then we will have fireworks.

Think it has been OK though, just nice to see us actually dominate a bit of possession and keep the ball a bit.

  • 130 h0sta // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:57 PM

ferguson is genius :D bigi sammy also perfect..sammy and fergie looks like they have a walk in bruggys forest :)

  • 131 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:58 PM

Listening to Mickey Quinn on Anita being crap again , is it fair to say that oiur scouting system may be overrated? Marveaux – zero impression ….Anita – very little impression ….Obertan …not looking like a good 3m buy at all….I dont wish to be premature, but maybe we should stop clapping ourselves on the back because we got Cabaye and Tiote ( declining ? ) on the cheap…..

  • 132 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 8:59 PM

people slating sammy on this blog must be mackems, sammy and fergie have been the best players on the pitch today, what i would like to see is bigi off and bring on shola or cambell.

Anita is young and settling in, dont think people should be writing the lad off just yet, he needs to start doing things a bit quicker, i think as his confidence improves he will hopefully come good,

Shola on, whos gone off? my money is young Bigi, easiest option for Pards really, drop Anita back to see if he can do anything of note.

  • 138 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:02 PM

But Hotdog, thats what often happens when teams play one up front. People on this site scream for 4-2-3-1 , but then find that Cisse is crap up front alone…..4-4-2 works aswell you know. Man City play it a lot and they did ok last year….

Aye, still the benchmark in DM ball winners is Makalele, showed you didn’t have to be dirty or particularly physical, to be an outstanding DM.

Tiote is too headstrong, given to frissons and is always liable to a rick, dwelling on the ball and being caught, usually. I think having genuine competition, is now contributing to the ramping up of the frequency of his errs too.

    Fray Bentos

    Diddums.

  • 141 Brutooon // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:02 PM

get rid one of bigi-tiote-anita and replace with adam campbell

    then play a 4-4-2 formation

  • 142 lukes26 // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:03 PM

Fergie and Sammy looking very good. If Sammy could just pass the ball…

Not convinced by Bigi playing in an advanced role. Not sure it suits his strengths.

Once Cabaye comes on, the goals will start to come. No one on the field in the first half could really ‘General’ midfield play. Play became very predictable from newcastle.

  • 143 Rowan Milsted // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:04 PM

Sammy been the pick, Fergie playing v well too. Obers can be so poor one minute the unlock something through good movement across both flanks but his end product is usually found wanting. Frustrating… but he could well be the key to a goal.

Cisse looking hungry, should have scored the header but that shot near the end was heartening. He’s just got to keep his head up.

Anita’s been out the game so far, reckon he could be the one to go off for Cabs/HBA.

Tiote shocking back pass but… how can people turn on him so quickly? He is immense and nearly got an assist, ridiculous to say he’s past it. Read card vs the scum was harsh too.

Looking ok at the back but Santon gets caught out of position too much. Wish we’d get players on the overlap more often, seem to be relying on Fergie or Sammy beating 2/3 players to make a chance. Which they are quite often, but still, it’s hard work for them and we could be more effective. Our wing play has been our biggest threat so far.

Think Shola’s coming on… for whom I don’t know. The Ameobi brothers will be playing together, nice.

Come on boys, we should be beating this lot from evidence of 1st half. Let’s do it

  • 144 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:04 PM

    @130 Munster

Not really, you got to think about the prices we paid for these players

Plus cabaye and tiote have hardly started declining, the whole team hasn’t played great this season

BUT i would agree that many fans have over estimated our players over last season and two, one of the reason why they pardew so much crap

  • 145 archaeomag // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:05 PM

    @hotdog
They have got a lot a men behind the ball – Cisse going for the ball with four defenders round him.
Think Sami has to learn when to release the ball.

  • 146 check the toastie // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:07 PM

fray – just doubting Mr T currently, i know how good he can be but for some time he has been found wanting a fair bit. Tonight he has given the ball away in horrendous positions on the pitch, and then yet again tries and dribbles when he is last man, he seems to have lost the plot a bit, believes his own hype for me.

Maybe 3 games out may give somebody else chance to stake claim to his place, will be interesting to see how we do in his absence.

    Well done obertan

  • 182 Ketsbaia9 // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:17 PM

We don’t have enough creativity in the final third. I can’t understand why we are playing with 3 defensive midfielders in the same team. We need an attacking midfielder on. Marveaux or Abeid should’ve started in that position. Tiote and Bigirimana should be on the bench with Anita being the sole defensive midfielder.

Ferguson is a good player, but he should be playing on the wing. Santon is doing well and is proving to be much more effective than Simpson. Sammi is having a great game so far. Obertan has been quiet.

We need to sign Boudebouz and utilise Abeid and Marveaux more. With Sammi and Shane looking like good prospects, Marveaux can now be utilised as a playmaker (like he was at Rennes). Marveaux has the potential to be one of the best players at NUFC.

…I heard Pardew, but I am also watching the game and that was not where the problem was.

Where is the balance mate if you don’t mind me asking? suddenly we are outnumbered in midfield and we sitting on top of the game!

  • 237 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:45 PM

breno – he changed it to get the goal, worked. now he has changed it because bruge were getting on top, worked so far we have more possesion

  • 238 jeff // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:46 PM

this commentator is terrible…. he said perch was playing right defensive midfield when colo came on

and then expects obertan to replace fergurson at lb when cabaye comes on even though fergurson hadnt eben playing lb for the last 20 mins

  • 239 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:46 PM

i think breno is the reason many posters don’t come on here during and straight after the games, can see why

  • 240 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:46 PM

    @breno95
Shola held the ball against 3 players before he got it to Sammy who ran upwards, who got it to Obertan who scored.
What’s negative about this, we’re bossing em apart from 10 minutes.

  • 241 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:48 PM

    dannyo – save your breath

fray – aye ibiza told me it was like this haha

  • 242 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:48 PM

    @Jesper
    Look at comment #239.
Also, they enjoyed a 10 minute spell, 10 bleepin minutes.
    We’re bossing again.

I don’t see any issues here whatsoever.

  • 243 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:48 PM

    moronic pardew bashing

how could anyone complain about putting Colo on at the end of the match to calm the team down a bit

    complete madness

  • 244 breno95 // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:50 PM

    Hotdog
Point which is fact mate is putting Shola on did not create the 1 goal scored.
As for having more of the possession in this half you must be watching a different game.
It’s been a win but a very poor showing. No shape, negative approach and making use of key 1st teamers in this game just baffles me tbh.

  • 245 jawballsaswallwell // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:50 PM

The Europa games are bringing on the youngsters in spades, Oba included. Way deeper squad now than at the beginning of the season.

  • 246 jesperfuglsang // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:50 PM

Dannyo…it is all opinions, but from where I am sitting Pards has messed up a golden opportunity with three bad subs.

…why change the balance from a 433 that worked to a 442 when we had the upper hand.

…I don’t think we are watching the same second half :-)

  • 247 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:50 PM

Maxime Lestienne – pick of the bunch for them

  • 248 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:51 PM

    @hotdog

it can get alot worse than this judging by the times ive been on during matches

I think Sammy and Fergy have stifled them a bit

  • 249 jeff // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:52 PM

dude im scared tiote is gnna do something stupid

  • 250 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:53 PM

    Amazing by Colo

    What a guy!!!!

  • 251 jesperfuglsang // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Hotdog and Dannyo…I have to admit I completly disagree with both of you…

…we let Brugge back in the game and we look without teeth again!

  • 252 sanchez // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:54 PM

    Obertan chant!

  • 253 jeff // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:56 PM

    GOOD GAME brugge

  • 254 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:56 PM

I presume Colo is being brought on to secure the points? Whats wrong with that?

  • 255 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:56 PM

    @jesper

Maybe they got themselves back into the game

ever thought about that, we aren’t playing against a team who are restricted to the same formation/tactics all game you know

  • 256 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:57 PM

Well that was an exhilarating way to spend an hour and 45…

  • 257 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:57 PM

    @jesper
U asked why AP did what he did, AP told u why he did what he did, and also explained the risks.
I just don’t see the issue.
We’re on 7 points in the EL now, playing mostly youngsters. FAR better off than Liverpool and Tottenham playing their a-team every game.

Expectations sometimes are phenomanaly enlargened beyond reason i think…

  • 258 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Problem: we dont have the players to play 4-2-3-1 , and 4-4-2 doesnt fit Cisse and Demba Ba . Anits doesnt look good enough to play as one of two defensive midfielders, and Tiote has declined. Maybe thats why we didnt have to pay loads of money for him? Pards has problems and is over reliant on Cabaye and Ben Arfa

  • 259 jawballsaswallwell // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Davide Santon is quite seamlessly becoming indispensable. Lovely, lovely player.

  • 260 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:59 PM

jesper – im not sure on the point your making mate?

  • 261 toonbrother // Oct 25, 2012 at 9:59 PM

    Good game but
    1. we need to bring Marveaux back into the fold. We are overly dependent on Cabaye Dreamboat for creativity in Central Midfield

    2. Easy on the Tiote bashing. He is arguably our most valuable player

  • 262 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:00 PM

    @dannyo

agreed, good 3 pointe playing youngsters

    Lots of positives from game

yet posters complain, crazy!!! they must think all these European teams are truly awfull………no wait they think the same about Man U!!!!

  • 263 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Dannyo, we definitely dont look as solid as last season though?

  • 264 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:01 PM

well FT and we win 1-0 in what i would say was a game which can give lots of positives for our players of the future
MOTM is hard to choose between sammy and ferguson but i will give it to sammy because of the way he flicked the ball over that club brug player to create the winning goal.
the only player i think was not himself today was cisse but he might have had better game had we started with two up front.

  • 265 breno95 // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:01 PM

    Fray
I’m glad you appear to be very happy with the showing tonight. However IMO it’s been poor.
Started brightly but strange changes by the manager.
Also just watched goal again and Shola did not hold the ball up with 3 defenders on him.
Like I said earlier must be watching a different game or more than likely I’ve probably watched football alot longer than fray, hotdog and Dannyo.

  • 266 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:02 PM

jawballsaswallwell – he is some athlete but he needs an end product, runs down blind alleys sometimes, still a young lad though, could be massive player for us in the next few years

  • 267 jesperfuglsang // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:02 PM

Fray…I am not sure I get your point.

…why did you think we should let them back in the game?

I thought we had the upperhand – you should never give that away just because we are the better team.

The balance was right in the 433; me messed with the balance and that was very clear 15 min into the second half.

The second half was a poor effort, both as a display and tactically. Shola is a great player but he added absolutly nothing.

As I said it is all opinions, but from where i was sitting Pards messed the second half up :-)

  • 268 beefman13 // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:03 PM

bigi is getting plenty of chances but young adam campbell isnt, he could easily been given 20/25 tonight instead of cisse, why fergie off when it should have been a straight swap cabaye for bigi.

That said three fairly comfortable points, and top of that league, cant be bad.

  • 269 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:04 PM

    Breno

You should know by now, that on here, certain posters think every facet of the club is beyond reproach and incapable of error.

  • 270 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:05 PM

    @breno95

I would hate to be your mother at xmas, your expectations must far exceed the amount she has to spend on you

  • 271 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:05 PM

One of my Irish buddies watched the game. Toon fanatic like me amd knows his stuff. Felt we lost our way badly. Tiote and Bigi in each others way, Obertan a bright spark , no creative central midfielder ( it now appears that we need to invest in this area ….but as usual , will we ….or will we snap up an 18 yr old french kid….) , Cisse has lost his mojo. Just felt I’d pass on his thoughts.

  • 272 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:05 PM

    @Munster Mag
I can’t dispute that, but there are loads of reasons for it as i’m sure u know.
Inujuries causing inconsistansies, ammount of games increased, perhaps a bit more pressure due to last years result.
But i do think we’re deffo coming back to our best.
Can’t say the luck of last season is here yet, but it’s coming.

  • 273 BelfastMagpie // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:05 PM

Hope I never see 3 defensive midfielders in the starting 11 again. lol

  • 274 jesperfuglsang // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:06 PM

Hotdog…just that I disagree about the question at hand (the question being that I though Pards messed up the second half) :-)

…nothing serious mate just opinions :-D lol

  • 275 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:06 PM

    @jesper

I don;t think you quite understood my point

  • 276 Nufc-83 // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:07 PM

Jesp its clear why pards made the change in that we had so much possession in 1st half but few clear cut chances. He brought a st on and dropped a mid to bring more in the final third. Even if shola was not involved in the goal after we changed we scored enough said really.

  • 277 jesperfuglsang // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:07 PM

Fray…I know :-) that was what I said lol

…what was your point again mate?

  • 278 BelfastMagpie // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Infact even 2 defensive midfielders lol

No creativity at all from Cm 2nite.

  • 279 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Im not explaining it, its self explanatory

  • 280 tequilamag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM

lmao at Brutoon Ruddy and Munster slaggiing Ober at half time.
What was it you called him Ruddy, “waste of skin” ?

  • 281 breno95 // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:09 PM

    Fray
What has Xmas and my mother got to do with NUFC and FYI my mother is dead so she no longer has any expectations.
Opinions are posted and IMO it was a poor display especially second half and tactics were too negative and changes were strange to say the least.
    @ Ruddy
    I agree.

  • 282 Rowan Milsted // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:09 PM

Good performance, not great but so impressed with 7 points from 3 games and no goals conceded. 9 changes from the scumberland game too. We were undefeated in the qualifiers too.

Tiote had a very solid 2nd half and I felt the booking was harsh. He has a reputation now and seems to get booked because his name is Tiote. 30 yellows from 60 appearances is bad though, gotta be some kind of record!

Shame Anita had such a quiet night cos ironically we needed him most just after he went off. Cabs did s solid job though – and as for Captain Colo sprinting back from our corner to get a diving header in to intercept their break – what can I say. I f**king love you Colo! Solid performance from Saylor too.

Biggest disappointment of 2nd half was that Cisse barely had a touch. Overall well pleased though.

Without meaning to cause offence I can’t believe some of the negativity and criticism leveled at Tiote, Obers and Pards tonight. One really good season and everyone wants the moon on a stick. Back to the 90′s we go… at least Pards has two feet planted on planet earth. Thank God for that.

  • 283 hotdog // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:09 PM

ffs – we were not playing some niave team here, they were going to have a spell in the game and pushed more men forward when we scored. They had two really good chances so pards tinkered with it again and we seen the game out. simples and im delighted with that result hwtl

  • 284 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:09 PM

    beefman
i like your thinking there i too have fealt cambell being left on the bench is maybe on thing pardew has did wrong today.

  • 285 hazzy // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:10 PM

really pleased with the win love the look of our future players, fergie and sameobi in particular.
whats everyones thoughts on tiote? he’s always getting booked or sent off and his passing is nothing more than abysmal would like to see perch or bigi get there chance over next few games

  • 286 Dannyo // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:10 PM

U have to say tho, overall, we won this pretty comfortably.
Average age this match was 23.
I think Alan is doing a terrific job yet again.
9 changes from the weekend too.

  • 287 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:12 PM

Tequila, I’m happy to admit that I dont rate Obertan highly but am happy to be proved wrong. At least some of us are big enough to form an opinion on reasoned grounds.

  • 288 jesperfuglsang // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Nufc 83…I underdtand that part, but sub was not going to give us that.

…we had less oportunities in the second half because he messed with the balance of the team.

You need to create enough chance to warranr two forwards and Shola was absolutly ineffective tonight.

We lost the upperhand in the second half. Am I really the only one of that opinion? :-)

  • 289 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:14 PM

    @breno

Im only jesting mate like when you said you had watched football longer than me and a few others, were jsut different thats all, your negative and have high expectations, im realistic and don’t

  • 290 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:15 PM

If Tiote isnt doing it, he’s got to be benched. Only Pards and him will know whats wrong, but the big question is , can Bigi take his place all the time? Probably not – maybe Guti or Perch can though – Perch is becoming a very interesting player for us. Quick, better temperment than Tiote, neat passer, fewer errors.

  • 291 tequilamag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Munster Ober was mom against Bordeaux and had another good game tonight. If you don`t rate Ober that`s your opinion but I never read any reasons for the opinions you put forward tonight, All I read was a load of people looking for scapegoats.

  • 292 toonking // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:16 PM

i can’t see why so many opinions are about poor tactics a goal scorer playing poor and having 3 DM in the same team.
what i would have thought should be the talking points is who out of perch bigi and anita should start on sunday
when we play the next europa game weather vuckic an tav will fit in and is obatan heading in a simular direction to HBA playing more of a CAM behind front 2 rather than a winger.

  • 293 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:16 PM

    @tequila

Don’t forget that Ober had a really good game against Man U in the cup aswell

  • 294 fray bentos // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Granted Obertan has not been that good for Newcastle since he’s started but i think he been really good in his last 3/4 games but unfortunatley i think certain fans are almost stuck in their ways and can’t see this as they already hold an opinion and only see the bad

It works the other way round aswell, Ben Arfa was terrible againt Man U in the league but he got no stick whatsoever because of his standing with the fans

  • 295 tequilamag // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Fray, I swear to God some people on here would rather we play badly and lose just so they can have a vent about how sh*t everything is.

  • 296 breno95 // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:24 PM

    Fray
Your definition of negative and realistic is very different to mine.
I am very realistic when it comes to NUFC as gave watched them for long enough.
Some posters have referred to Sammy as world class and others having a great game.
No one had a great game and we don’t have any world class players. We have some very good players, some good players, some mediocre players and some who are poor.
    That’s the realism of it.

  • 297 Ketsbaia9 // Oct 25, 2012 at 10:29 PM

Yes, we won the game, but we can’t start with 3 defensive midfielders against premier league teams.

Our league isn’t as strong as it was. Just take a look at the champions league results. The german league isn’t far off our league.
