Well I wasn’t there for sure, but what I did see is a player that is still very reluctant to cross the ball, there is no point in him being in the team as a right wing out let, as once he gets it he actually kills any momentum of us going forward, he can have all the pace in the world bit I never seen him beat anyone and put a good ball into the box
Great goal , took it really well, but hat is all I seen of him that was worth a mention
Sammy ,Ferg , santon, bigi, all had much better games than him by a long way, yet Pardew singles obertan out for praise , now that is sad , Pardew did so so a lot of you would say well if Pardew says it it must be true,
Pardew said look he is only 23, well at 23 he should be able to cross a ball, and in the position he plays , that should be a big part of his game, and come on, he trains with this every day with good coaches and good players , he has been lucky to have been at good clubs before us, it not like we plucked him from none league football,

Agree to disagree with Catchy. We are getting nowhere. I knew somebody would still try and pick fault with Gabby on here. And those people are why this blog is getting quieter and quieter.

One thing that comes out of last nights game is tiote gets worse every time I’ve seen him this season he’s way off the mark.

Sammy ameobi should learn to release the ball on time.
Ferguson can take mr jonas place in the starting eleven.
    Defense was ok.
Cisse can spend some time on the bench.

Obertan did fine but is not in the same class as Jonas. If Jonas had been playing we would have won by three goals. His running and ability to beat a defender combined with his crossing skills would have set up a few more goals.

Sorry to agree with you on that Torq but you are right about the downturn in quality. Last night was no fun at all on here.

Two of our best players last season are playing poorly this season. Tiote and Cisse. Want aways? If Cisse is not scoring he is a waste. Ba is a much better player and striker.

The old obertan not crossing complaint.

People complain about longball direct english football and want 4-3-3 with 2 wingers/forwards playing small touch passing football. that style does not lend itself too much to byline-crossing so why do you demand it so much from Obertan

You complain about him not being able to cross, i see it more that he doesn’t attempt to cross that much, and maybe this is his instruction

Another famous player who doesn’t cross the ball much is Ronaldo, he plays the same position altough maybe more of a forward, i doubt very much that he is asked to get to the byline then cross the ball

before somebody jumps on me about comparing Ronaldo to Ober, im not, im jsut comparing their postion and instruction

Tsunki – I make a concerted effort to not come on the blog during or after a game. It’s just a farce with the neggers coming out whatever the result should be.

I was at the game last nite, and cant believe people saying obertan was mam of match, he did score good goal, got pace to burn, but apart from the goal he did absolutley nothing cant cross, never wanted or looked like putting the ball in the box, only winger i know that has pace to burn but wont take on the fullback just kept giving it to ferguson, he looked like the seasoned pro and ober the young kid. in my opinion they should 4get bout playing him wide and when he comes on use him as second striker, cant cross but could use his pace, was bellamy a good finisher or all bout pace????

Can hardly say tiote is a want away, whenever he’s linked with a move away he always comes out and says he’s happy heat unlike others! Gabby had a fair game for me he’s now world beater but does just as good a job as Jonas! Fergie Anita and saylor in Jonas will and tiote out for me this weekend

I must have been watching a different match last night cos I saw something happen twice which you don’t see every day in the premier, that’s pushing the ball past the opposition and running around him, Oba did that a few times last night. He also gets my vote for MOM as I think he could do with a confidence boost to make him better. Don’t forget the average age on the pitch last night was only 23, and that keeps our purple’s for the league on Sunday. Not a great game last night but a great result and puts us in a commanding position to make progress. IMHO it was well done all round great for the toon and the city.

Wez – So you are saying that you never once saw Obertan take on the full back? Just confirm that for me…

My first post here so play nice 😉

I think Gabby is being played out wide for his pace etc but he’s not really a wide player. he has the pace and tricks to get past people ( with experience the tricks will work more often ) but he doesn’t really look like a natural or even particularly gifted crosser of the ball. More a player who likes to run at speed into the box to shoot at goal or make a short pass/lay-off to another player in the box – more Walcott than Ginola.

Perhaps Pardew would gain more from using him to his strengths than trying to fit him in somewhere?

When do we really start worrying about Anita? I know it can take time to adjust to England and the Prem League, but he never looked comfortable last night in the Europa fixture.

I guess we have to keep pointing to Coloccini & Enrique and how long it took them to adjust and show class after their move to the club.
