Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says the squad are in good spirits and anxious to wrap up what would be a good week if we can get all three points against West Brom tomorrow.
Papiss Cisse – can he get on the goals track tomorrow?
Newcastle did amazingly well to almost hold out for the win at Sunderland last Sunday, when we were down to 10 mean, but of course we conceded that late equalizer with a Demba Ba own goal – and we had no luck at all.
And then on Thursday Newcastle got the job done with a 1-0 win over Club Brugge, to go 3 points clear at the top of Group D in the Europa League.
So hopefully a win tomorrow will help us climb the Premier League table a bit, from the 11th position we are in at the moment.
This is what Alan Pardew told the local press today:
“We are in good spirits. There’s a couple of draws that have cost us, where we should have more points, and we need to gain those points back, so we are under a little bit of pressure to get those three points on Sunday.”
“West Brom are probably the surprise team of the season so far, so it’s a tough game.” “Steve Clarke’s a good friend of John Carver, and his assistant is Kevin Keen, who worked with me at West Ham.”
“They are guys who we know are thorough, and we have got to make sure that we test them, because they will come with a plan to make it difficult for us.”
A win tomorrow will take us into the top half of the table, which is where we want to be, and hopefully it’s still possible to get into the top six this season, and we are only four points out of being in 6th position, so we are still fairly well positioned, in spite of a mediocre start in the league.
Three points tomorrow will help a lot.
