Papiss Cisse didn’t look too comfortable in Thursday night’s s game against Club Brugge, and he missed a sitter after just 15 minutes, set up so brilliantly for him by 21 year-old Shane Ferguson, with one of those exquisite and perfect left-wing crosses.
Papiss Cisse – in action against Club Brugge
Papiss doesn’t look half the player he was last season, but of course form is fleeting but class is permanent as they say – or something like that. 😀
Papiss has scored two goals so far this season, but has still to score his first goal in the Premier League, and that’s a big contrast to last season when he notched 13 league goals in just 14 appearances for Newcastle, after arriving from SC Freiburg in Germany.
But Papiss has terrific technique and skills, and certainly Alan Pardew doesn’t seem too concerned about things, as he had this to say today:
“I think like all strikers you just want him to be getting chances and he is still getting them.” “It’s when they don’t start threatening the goal that you worry, but I do not really sense that with Papiss.”
It’s expected that Papiss will play alongside Demba Ba in tomorrow’s home game against West Brom, and maybe he can get his first Premier League goals of the season against the Baggies – we hope so.

Comment #4Has that actually been created as an article!? It’s the biggest non-story that’s ever been on here!!
And such a ‘teasing’ headline too. This is turning in tribalfootball.com now!

Comment #5Ian…can you ask him to stop switch from 433 to 442 when look so much more comfortable in that system 🙂
…the game against Brugge springs to mind 🙂
Made the reason why Cisse has not hit form so far this season is because of how we play – both performance and tactic!
Last season the performance was just better dispite the tactics and lady luck was smiling upon us 😉
When performance get better and she comes back Cisse will score again 🙂

Comment #7Pardew knows if he plays Ba on the left he will seek a transfer, Cisse was scoring for fun with this system. I also agree we do not make that many clear cut chances and that momentum has not carried on from last season.
It is just my opinion but I think the players expected a few good signings during the summer, we did not make them and this has possibly burst the bubble. Cabaye has not started too well maybe, just maybe he is a bit down when expecting his mate to sign!
We need to climb this table !
