When was the last time we played well?

    Cant remember?

Best squad since Sir Bobby, worse football than Allardyce.

Squad of internationals, playing like a championship side…….

    Who’s to blame?

id love anyone of these so called pardew fans to come on and try and tell us
    1st, what system we play
2nd, why so many players out of position,
    3rd, why the same subs

but what they will come on and say is look at the table,, you should be happy,, he has got an 8 year plan,, we trust him,,

but they carnt gave a valid reason,, blind faith,, that get you killed

I think we dodged a bullet there, WBA played well, but it is nice to get some luck.

Catchy – i will get the same old, your not a true fan, im a better fan than you are shite, i am not saying i want him out i just have reservations about what he is planning and how his team goes about playing football, we are totally unconvincing and have to say there is only the Mackems who actually play worse football than us in the PL.

Its strange because at times Pardew picks attacking sides that look good, i actually believe he doesnt know how to get the most from this squad, he is indebted to acts of individual brilliance or slices of luck, havent seen anything of great note were he deserves credit.

Even the spirit of the side probably comes down to the individuals rather than any inspiration of the manager. Anyway awaiting the usual pelters.

WIN….. moan about how bad we were but lucky even with such poor tactics
LOSE…. moan about how bad we were and really poor tactics
DRAW… moan about how bad we were and lucky not to lose especially with such poor tactics

There is just no pleasing some people.

  • 13 eaststandgeordie1982 // Oct 28, 2012 at 5:35 PM

We didnt deserve anything out of the game today pardew went into that so negative with that formation, worst performance ive seen for a long time.

    Catchy
When you look at the club and what we’ve come back from yes
When you look at last season no
At the end of the day were playing badly but still picking up points surely things can only get better
As for the whole formation thing when the lads play like they did today i dont think it matters they were poor, think i was most disappointed in cabs thought he’d by flying high but he bottled every 50-50 and gave them the ball every time he thought he was gonna get tackled

Wish everyone would stop slating Obertan, when him and Sammi came on, we looked quicker going forward, so me Gutierezz is looking past it, think we should start with Obertan or Sammi instead of Guti next week. As much effort as he puts in, he isn’t looking the same class as the others. Taylor start next week could also be a good call.

please explain why we play so poor,, its not all about tables,, id like to think we where building a strong squad,,

whats the point of having a squad if you dont use it right???

come on,, 2 subs brought on to play left wing, and leave your best left winger on the bench

can you honestly say jonas should be in the first team,,,

  • 19 archaeomag // Oct 28, 2012 at 5:38 PM

    It is all very strange
    - there were two teams on the pitch both with talented players trying to win the game and stop the opposition winning.

  • 24 check the toastie // Oct 28, 2012 at 5:44 PM

nufcburty – agree Obertan offers pace and directness that gives the opposition something to think about, personally think the lad has something, people are horrendously negative towards him.

MFH – dont need catchy to wind me up, people are deluded to think that we have ever played good football, the only time we have got great results is when we have hit teams on the counter, WBA, and Swansea, chelsea last year. We have never since Pardew has been in charge dominated the game or possession during it, and we have played some shit in that time.

People here have short memories, these problems have existed since he took over, Brighton away last year in the FA cup could easily happen again this year, we have made no progress since then.

  • 25 eaststandgeordie1982 // Oct 28, 2012 at 5:46 PM

    Mfh

So we didnt go into that game negative?????
Shola on the right? We should of been 2-1 down at half time, nobody wanted the ball today when anyone had it at their feet, he had no choice to bring on cisse and ober and we were still bad.

Do U want to knw why pple are against most of what U say?? Its coz even last year wen we went 11 games unbeaten and third in the league U still moaned..
What does that tell most of us?? It tells us that ur just negative no matter what. Yes the football is dire anyone can see that, and noone on here today said we played well..
But we are satisfied with the result.

You and check moan and moan about AP, everyday, and night, before the game and after the game. That’s all u ever post. we played rubbish but we won, is that not what good teams do. I would be more worried if I was a westbrom fan, played well last week lost, played well this week lost.

And pliz do tell me when we ever played well and lost?? But we pick up points wen we play dire (good team)

last year i complaind about one thing at the start of the season(first 11 games) obertan,, hmmm proved right about that one

none of you pardew fans can gave any answers other than your so negetive,, what kind of answer is that,,

some of us ask questions, simple questions that nevr get answered

you tell me why jonas is in the team,, try and justify him with out looking stupid, you carnt,,,

answers i have got so far for both jonas and obertan, is , they create space,, what about creating chances

can you not see what players we have, we have some fantastic players,, all we want is to watch them play football,, that is not being negative,, it is far from being negative

no one has answered me on why both sammy and oba got on the left wing before ferg today

but like the rest ,, you have had your moan at me, and the sky is blue again

  • 34 G // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:11 PM

We haven’t looked like a team at all this season in the Prem. The only time I can honestly say we have looked good this season was in Europa League against Bordeaux. Other than that we have looked more like a side that should be dodging relegation. We need to start playing more like a team, than playing like 11 individuals looking after number 1. I’m sure the lads will click together sooner rather than later though, and I still think we will be on for a top 8 finish. Howay the lads.

  • 35 catchy in norway // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:12 PM

  • 36 check the toastie // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:12 PM

Man Utd’s not playing very well, is a bit different to ours Tarie4.

If Man Utd had played some of the stuff we have over the last 18months, Sir Alex would have been sectioned.

Man Utd not playing well is maybe having only 55% possession, or maybe letting in 2 goals, comparing us with Man Utd is bizarre.

A sign of a team playing constantly rubbish is a sign that sooner or later they will stop collecting points, it has gone on to long and Pardews outlook on how we are going to setup and play must change for me.

  • 37 Quasi.modo // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:12 PM

So much negativity, seriously chaps do you not realise that it isn’t good for the ticker to get this annoyed over football, especially considering that we won today.

Didn’t see the game, glad I didn’t, but we won and played badly, I would take that all day every day over playing well and losing.

So good to get the 3 points, and finally lady luck smiled for us again.
I don’t care about the performance tonight tbh, it’s about the 3 points and building some confidence into the team.
My biggest issue tonight is Jonas.
His form is falling like a ton of bricks. Sammy or Fergy should be taking his spot.
I can’t see Jonas ever coming back to his best. He’s been like that for 8 months now.

And i watched him spesifically tonight.

Missed the first 30 mins but from what I saw our midfielders played awfully, especially Ben Arfa

People blame pardews tactics for playing badly but I would have to blame the players, I think people have to realise that perhaps they have over valued the quality of our players

why do I have to justify why AP picked this player and that player. I like YOU are totally unqualified to answer that question. All we can do is give an opinion, just like you.

If U want to knw answer to that ask AP himself.

And being proved right about oberton?? At that tym who would U have put in the team instead of him?? Ben arfa was injured and unfit, fergie was injured, Sammy barely had any experience. So instead of oberton who would U have put?? To prove U wrong, wen we got Benny fit etc oberton dropped rightfully to the bench. And U did complain about the performances mate loool.

it took David moyes years and years to get his side of to a good start in the season. With fans like U both, U would have been calling for his head ages ago… Hmmm seems like our clueless chairman even understands that a club like ours needs stability and that begins with supporting him thru the bad times (these aren’t even bad times) and thru the good times.
But i guess U both are inpatient, but hey ur support and eagerness to win and win in style is understandable but geewzzz guys, relax a little bit.

  • 54 boater // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:28 PM

We played badly today – hard to disagree with that, but Pardew knows that and is trying to get us going again. We weren’t as fluid last season as some seem to think – most wins were narrow and there were lots of games we sat off and rode our luck – I also don’t think the quality across the 11 is as high some seem to think. We have 1 worldy centre back, a top drawer keeper, 1 international full back (still developing) and Ba and Ben Arfa going forwards – who have carried us in the league. Tiote and Cabaye have been overrun this season due to a woeful lack of fitness and that has meant us being overrun in midfield in just about every game since Tottenham.

I’d like to see us start Anita in midfield with Tiote out – we have to give him in a run in his preferred position – what better time than now? Cabaye is sitting so deep – needs to know he can get forwards to support.

The passing aint great but I’m sure we will get going so please have some perspective. Considering our owner’s complete lack of ambition in the transfer market it’s as good can be expected.

  • 55 check the toastie // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:29 PM

here’s a one for you all, think Willo did OK today, gotta say no idea why Clarke took Lukaku off the boy is pretty warm. May of saved us from defeat, think him and Long on the pitch together might have been too much for us.

  • 56 kajman // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:29 PM

    evening guys.
well after watching the whole game live, 2 things were very obvious, 1 our midfield is just not good enough, 2, we lack creativeness .
also benny his our most skillful player, and when he as a off game we look ordinary, when oba and sammy came on we moverd up a gear and looked threatening

  • 57 Big Pappa Cissé // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:31 PM

I agree. The only time we have played this season was the first half against Bruge IMO. The rest of the performances have been average at best

  • 58 Quasi.modo // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:31 PM

There is such a battleground mentality on here and we lose sight of the fact that we all support the same club, and those who go on and on with this negative rubbish will never be satisfied and take pleasure in just being miserable and I really do pity them as they must live very unsatisfying depressing lives.

Well, the pity is short lived, because if they want to remain miserable they can. I’m going to enjoy every victory regardless of how it comes :)

    How you doing mate?

Alot of people singling out jonas and obertan and of course simmo and willo!
For me the biggest concern tonight was that when long came on all they did was target colo and you have to say long was running rings round him! The whole midfield did not click today and that wouldnt mattered if it was 433 or 442 benny ran everywhere cabs was no where to be seen we either need to fast track anita or get some serious scouting going on for some creative midfield players
Sammy and obertan played very well when they came on, im glad cisse scored, sort of, but should of put 2 away before that
Dont get why shola was getting stick he had a good first half

Quasi – that’s the way to go. A lot of people forget we were in the fizzy pop league 3 seasons ago, I’m just happy to be in the premier league if I’m honest. I’m delighted we are a top half side, and I’m ecstatic that we finished/are aiming for 5th. Win lose or draw I support our team, (obv a win is best :) )
I think today we were better team first half, second half they tired us out, but we still battled away, and showed real courage and spirit in the last 10mins or so, and I think we deserved to win. We were better team first half, and west brom had a bit more energy second half but they barely did anything in the First half. Lets not forget there keeper got warned for time wasting after 11 mins. They wore us out. That was there game plan and it worked. I am happy about the result, and now we push on looking for another win.

Santon is class, could play for anybody.

Quasi – maybe i am a manic depressive or maybe i have followed this team for a very very long time and have seen some seriously bad teams and seriously bad squads,.

However i have never been as frustrated as i currently am, this is because we have sourced footballers from around Europe under the pretence that we are going to play football in a manner that it should be played, if i was Anita, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Santon, Cisse i would be seriously worried whether i was actually lied too by Pardew. He is not putting his money were his mouth is.

Shola for Cisse, Pardew has failed Cisse if he cannot get a game instead of Shola, worried, very worried. Pardews stubborness to change was highlighed last year by preferring raylor to benArfa, now it is his insistence on playing Jonas, and Simmo for me.

Not too bad mate, could only get watching the first half of the match as we were streaming on the laptop and I was out voted by the rest of the house who wanted to watch the Man U Chelsea match, disappointing but by the sounds of it missing the second half was a blessing in disguise.

I was disappointed with the quality of the passing in the first half, especially from Cabs, HBA made some good incisive runs but overall it was a bit disjointed. Cisse finally got off the mark in the league so that’s good news, even if he knew nothing about it!

There are certain players who will get abuse regardless and there is little point trying to get people to see sense as you’d just drive yourself up the wall.

Our 2nd half performance today was absolutely awful. We couldn’t string 4 passes together and nobody knew what they were doing.
We were very fortunate today and nobody can deny that. I don’t like winning by luck, it proves nothing.

I actually felt more satisfaction from last weeks game because we deserved the point on merit, not luck.We started in a 4-3-3 today but put Shola RW. This was a horrendous decision from Pardew. He picks the wrong players IMO.

I feel sorry for WBA because they were the better side today and deserved something out of the game.

  • 81 Rowan Milsted // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:53 PM

Very poor 2nd half today. we’ve not been at our best all season.

    BUT

good teams grind results out of poor performances (Man Utd have done it for years) and we have also played some nice football this season. there are many factors contributing to our average league position, none more so than playing in Europe (where we’ve done very well) and having unfit and injured players. I’d look at this before calling Pardew clueless.

Today was bad, no denying it, but 3 points is great. That shouldn’t paper over the cracks but the cracks aren’t as big as some think! we need to improve – but I’m confident we will.

If I was a pool fan I’d be worried how desperately short up front they are, Suarez isn’t even an out and out striker, so I’m not that worried about them, Sterling will need to be watched but Santon is more than capable.

Let’s hope we can get a bit more fluidity in our play and strike a bit more fear into sides when they come to SJP.

  • 83 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:54 PM

    Super
Ameobi did just aswell as any of the lads in the first half and put in one of the crosses of the season

  • 84 seancavaz // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:55 PM

It was 3 points, and Lady Luck was eventually on our side. Few things I noticed I today’s game, and something I’ve felt for a while…..Cabaye needs to keep his gob shut! Yes he’s a good player, but I think he’s starting to believe to much of his own hype and with his Schole type tackles its not gonna be long before he sees red! Keep your gob shut, get on with the game and play the way you played last year, because ATM you seem to be getting carried through games and don’t seem fit! HBA gave everything, didn’t always come off but he tried, and if it wasn’t for his run, the refs decision to play advantage, then it would have been a point, anyone else would have punted it forward, well done HBA! MOM for me personally was Santon! A class apart again, and was willing that ball to go in for him! All round excellent display, comfortable on both feet, both sides, defence, attack, can see why Jose compared him to the great Maldini and tbh it won’t be long before the Azzuri call him up! All n all, not a great performance, to stop start for me, but on a positive it was good to see a poachers goal from Cisse(ally mccoist would have been proud of that ha)…..hopefully now the goals will bang in again and fingers crossed Ba is fine! Onwards and upwards!

  • 85 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:58 PM

    Quasi
Aye suarez plays on his reputation more than anything and is hardly prolific, sterling is a good player but santon should keep him quiet

Think you lucked out watching the manure game managed to catch the second half and it was s cracking game glad to see torres walk for diving made me chuckle!

  • 86 WorJordi // Oct 28, 2012 at 6:59 PM

we looked labored today and bereft of ideas. Yes we were lucky but if we build on that luck and may be try and start the likes of Anita and young Ferguson and start with them but have the option of say Jonas and Perch on the bench it may all start to click. We can finish top 6 We can win a cup HWTL.

  • 87 Dannyo // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:00 PM

Looks like AP thought Ba would be out for atleast a little while unfortunatly :/

Must admit that it was a cracking game of football and given that our second half wasn’t the best I probably did luck out. Would have preferred a draw because United always get the contentious decisions, Hernandez was a yard offside yet the argument will be that these decisions even out over the course of the season, which is bull. Man U get more of those decisions going in their favour than against them, but I think both sides will end the season slightly above us in the table so I’m not too bothered!

  • 89 Big Pappa Cissé // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:03 PM

I don’t get all the hate for check to be honest. Its not as if he is lying or anything, the team aren’t playing well and he is just pointing that out. He is not going overboard saying relegation is immanent he is worried that is all. I am to but hopefully we can turn it around and start playing well again, we are all NUFC supporters afterall

  • 90 nimo // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:04 PM

torres never dived thou but perhaps should of walked for his earlier high foot challenge.. ref spoilt a good game

  • 91 hoppernufc // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:04 PM

At the end of the day we got 3 points and although we didn’t deserve it hopefully we can kick on from here and get some points on the board, i totally agree that our team selection and formation / tactics have been bad this season however our main problem is we only turn up for one half of games, we seem incapable to perform well for the full game, there’s no excuses the majority of that team didn’t play on thursday so that’s a total excuse as far as I’m concerned.

  • 92 JP...from The Rock // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:05 PM

Where in the hell has all this Pardew’s shite crap come from?? He was The Manager of The Season last season FFS!! Some of you guys need to get a grip seriously. I was furious watching the match today but not at Pardew it was hardly his fault. I was angry at the players for being so poor. It was disgusting to watch but we still managed to get the points against in my eyes our bogey team. Too many players were out of form today. Apart from Ba, Krul, Sammy Ameobi, Santon and Obertan the rest were rubbish today. I think this performance hurts so much because many expected a proper performance after our good result in the Europa League. But to blame Pardew who did the subs that changed the game in our favour is insane. It’s still early in the season and we’re doing well picking up the points and (very) slowly getting into form.

  • 93 Quasi.modo // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Don’t think there is any hate towards him. Just people being overly negative after a win is a tad ridiculous. But sure each to their own. I’m off here chaps and chapettes :D

  • 94 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:11 PM

    JP
Agreed pards made the right changes at the right time and win us the game obertan and sammy were full of running when they came on!
Would like santoon to start RB next match and think jonas done well at lb would perhaps be a good game to start fergie or gabby on the left but beny def has to stay right as he’s going to tear enrique to shreds

  • 95 Dannyo // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:11 PM

    @JP
I agree, players are much to blame for the start of this season, not all, but much, cause several players have been abysmal at times.
Also, factors as gelling for players, younger ones, that didn’t play much last year, injuries, youngsters coming to grips with PL footy, etc etc, it’s not really the stability wanted.
Also, i think the lack of signings might’ve had a negative effect on some players. Without knowing who really.

There are allot of variables, variables that weren’t there last season. But hopefully, this win, will install some confidence.

    PARDEW IS FULLY TO BLAME,,

HE COACHES THEM WEEK IN WEEK OUT,,

LIKE EVERY OTHER MANAGER IN THE LEAGUE HE SHOULD TRY AND GET THEM TO PLAY FOOTBALL,,

ALL THEY MUST DO IN TRAINING IS PLAY CARDS, LEGO, AND GO FOR A RUN,, BEACUSE WHEN A BALL IS PUT NEAR THEM,, THEY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO,,

A NORMAL COACH DONT CHANGE HIS TEAM AROUND AS MUCH AS PARDEW DOES,,,

HE USES THE SAME PLAYERS BUT TRIES THEM IN POSITIONS THAT IS STRANGE TO THEM AND SOME OF YOU BLAME THE PLAYERS,,

HERE IS A CONCEPT,, TRY PUTTING ROUND PEGS IN ROUND HOLES,,

THE ONLY PLAYER THAT HAS PLAYED IN HIS PROPER POSITION IS KRUL,, BUT HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST,,

    PARDEW IS LOSING IT

He was good in the first half but in the second half he couldn’t get the ball and took his frustration out on the defender. I’m not blaming him at all. I just don’t think he should be played on the wing. Pardew got his tactics wrong today and we were lucky.

  • 98 stuart no9 // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:16 PM

O.M.G. what a shambles!. our midfield didnt turn up, our passing was woefull- at best, clueless up front , no cutting edge, nothing, but some how we stole the points in the biggest smash and grab i can remember at SJP. this was west brom AT HOME. it could have been anyone- anyone in the prem could come here and do what west brom did today.this has been the story of our season up till now. i see some one mentioned top 4 club, i havnt seen it all season in fact we better knuckle down, and start putting some performances in because we are getting worse. embarassing , at times torture, we had a full side out today apart from tiote, which is a good thing coz we would have got murdered with 10 men.pards cant be happy with the performance , he is lying if he says he is. i am very worried about pards, the fact that sometimes he looks like he dont know what hes doing, and with an 8 year contract already in the bag does he care????

Whoa there, calm down a bit, go and have a nap or something

Okay let’s sell our players buy the Gateshead team , then get another manager who can train these players into world beaters, sorted

  • 104 JP...from The Rock // Oct 28, 2012 at 7:32 PM

Catchy – Pardew is rotaing our SMALL SQUAD the best he can. With players performing crap in training and promising kids as back up he’s trying to keep our ‘purple’ players on the field more and trying them in different ways to see if it brings a better performance from them. They are not playing in positions any different to last season and they have been regularly been practicing different formations and tactics in training as has been documented in the past. The fact the players are underperforming is hardly his fault. If we had bought more players in the summer Pardew wouldn’t have to put youngsters on the bench after a tough game they’ve had in midweek. We should have proper first-teamers on the pitch and the bench and that’s not Pardew’s fault if we don’t have that. The good thing from the lack of signings is the kids are stepping up to the challenge. Sammy, Fergie, Bigi, Obertan are impressing and improving and that has to be good.

Also we’ve ONLY LOST ONCE IN SIX!

    HWTL
