One of the negatives to come out of yesterday’s 2-1 win against West Brom was to see Demba Ba limp out of the game carrying one of his boots after 72 minutes – and he seems to have picked up a foot or ankle injury.
Demba Ba scoring yesterday – showing great technique as usual
Looking at how he walked off he didn’t look too bad, and we’ll have to hope that some ice on the foot, and an examination and scan will prove it’s not a major injury.
But whether he will be able to make if for the tough game at Anfield next Sunday is unknown at this time, until the Newcastle medics come out with a full prognosis on the injury.
This is what Alan Pardew said last night when asked about the Senegal striker:
“I wouldn’t say it’s a major concern, but Demba is sore.” “Whether he can make next week or not, I don’t know.”
Demba Ba has been Newcastle main man in scoring goals in the Premier League this season, and only Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye and now Papiss Cisse have also scored in the league.
But we do have Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse who could start for Newcastle at Anfield. We’ve always thought that having Shola up front is a plus, because he has that ability to head balls on, and he made the goal for Demba Ba yesterday, but it seems neither of the two Senegal strikers have that kind of ability in the air.
Shola made that great goal for Ba with another head-on when we played Manchester United last January, so he’s a useful man to have around, and seems to be in some decent form this season.
We’ll just have to hope that Ba’s foot injury isn’t too bad.
Update – it seems that Ba has pinched a nerve in his shin – according to the Newcastle Journal this morning.
