Alan Pardew has said after the game yesterday that Papiss Cisse is as good in training as he was last year, and puts the ball in the back of the net from all over the place, yet in the league he got only his first goal of the season yesterday, and it was a really lucky one.
Papiss Cisse after scoring yesterday – with Sammy Ameobi
Papiss has scored three goals in all competitions so far this season, and that’s not terrible, and if he can now start to pick up some goals in the league, that will be good for a striker who has scored wherever he has played throughout his career.
Cisse now has 16 goals for Newcastle in just 26 appearances, so that’s not too bad for any striker, in fact it’s very good.
It’s the 3 goals he has scored in 12 appearances this season which is a little worrying, although it appears the Newcastle manager has no doubts at all about the Senegal striker’s ability to score goals:
“I cannot put my finger on it.” “It is difficult with strikers sometimes.” “He has been committed in training and been scoring the same type of goals there he did last year.”
“Sometimes the match day comes along and the goals do not fall for you, but that goal will help him enormously.” “Papiss is a big player for us.” “All types of goals help strikers.”
“Hopefully, he will go on a run because Demba picked up a little knock and we will need to see if he will be OK for next week.”
All goals count for strikers and all wins count for any side, and however we managed the win yesterday – a win is a win.
We’ll take it, and look forward to a much better performance from the lads at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Comment #2Lets hope cisse finds the net more regardless of any injury to Ba, at the moment we look like a team where only Ba can score and santon and Ben Arfa want to create.

Comment #3Yep a win is a win but i come out the ground feeling like we got beat pards needs to sort the lads out play people in there positions and we need to look at leaving jonas out of a league game. Obertan has earned a shot imo the way hes played in europe we need out and out wingers on the pitch ffs cisse will only get goals if he gets the service.

Just a quick point
Why doesn’t Pardew take some of the very good performers from the games in Thursday and switch them for the not so good performers in the EPL games
Why doesn’t Pardew try these new systems with different players that arnt putting it in for him
Does he mean that he has 2 new systems that we haven’t seen yet, I’m sure we have seen every permutation u can so with 11 players , in most matches infact
433 with shola wide right was never going to work, he is not mobile enough to cover the ground

Comment #5I have to say, I have always been defensive of Jonas, but yesterday did go to show he can’t play on the wing anymore. I think he offers a lot to the team being on the pitch, but it should really be in centre mid or left back. I think sammy has done enough to warrant atleast a half next game, and fergie aswell. I think obertan shouldn’t have been put on yesterday he looked out of place against west broms style. I think sammy and fergie should both get the second half against Liverpool, at least,
Krul
Santon Willo collo Jonas
HBA cabaye perch sammy
Shola Cisse
(If ba is injured)
That team should be enough to beat Liverpool. Even in 442 🙂

Comment #7In tiotes absence i rather Jonas played centre back and sammy got a chance against the bindippers. They have a really young inexperienced side, stick some pace and skill against them they will collapse.
Ben arfa and sammy/fergie running at them on the wings, Jonas behind cabs, colo can keep Suarez warm in his pocket.

Comment #8Don’t shoot me for this but, if ba is out next week, Pardew has an excuse not to play him and therefore, I’m hoping that he might have the courage to go 4-2-3-1/ 4-3-3 with either marvaux, fergie or sammy out on the left. With ba out, he could change te system and we can actually play well once again

Comment #13We cant got to Liverpool with two upfront, they will batter us. Look how WBA played yesterday. Feed the forward and get midfileders supporting quickly. I still dont get why HBA isnt playing off the front man 4-4-1-1 is the way to go, you aint tried this Pards, trust me it will work 😉

Comment #14To be fair I think Parents should get some old toon videos out and show the lads just how Peter Beardsley used to play. IE if he lost the ball he would run after it until he put in a tackle. One quick way for Obertan and Benny come to think of it is to take a leaf out of Pedro’s book and get a tackle in. The crowd would love you forever. Just a thought Pedro still works at the toon, GO AND SPEAK TO HIM!

Im all for forgetting the game and im pleased with the result, im saying that to the Pardew bashers, what i mean is that the players are just as accountable as Pardew for the poor performace second half, not all blame can be put on a manager, players have to go out and do their job. Also West Brom have proven themselves as a very good team this year and they played us 2nd half, it will happen to all teams

Comment #22repost re playing 2/3 times a week
ok, if pardew and coaches has malaise of playing2/3 times a week, why not employ more coaches? or prepare them simultaneously for both games? eg. mon tues – genera training, weds thurs – uefa prep, fri sat, EPL game
or get in some specialist coaches, who just concentrate on just the one competition if it is too hard on the coaches. 4 doesnt seem to be anywhere near enough anyway. could do with another 2

Comment #25Fray – I know what you were getting at, my comment wasn’t aimed at anyone specific.
We need to move on now. We have a very tough game at Anfield next, it will be very difficult to win, and IMO, I’m not expecting much from it.
We have a lot of matches this month, if we win most of them we will be around 4th 5th going into the Christmas period. It’s very possible.
November fixtures.
Liverpool away – tough game.
Bruge away – if we win we pretty much qualify
West ham home – really must win
Swansea home – again, need to win
Maritimo home – should win then we’re through
Southampton away – need to win
Stoke away – draw atleast.
That’s atleast 10 points in the league we need in November. And Europa league progression.
If we get our act together in November we will be in an excellent league position and the Europa league group stages.

Comment #26Conaldo, the only possible place jonas should be considered for me is at left back, honestly to leave out anita and play lads who are not even midfielders is a mystery.
Nothing came from our three midfielders yesterday including cabaye who looks out of sorts, perch did not have a terrible game but we got ran through the middle by a WBA side that was missing brunt so it could have been worse.
Santon played canny yesterday, and benny does try to make something happen but apart from that no one was creating from midfield, it was non existant imo.
I really dont want to have a pop at AP as we won the game but it was another performance when we have scraped by, i just feel jonas is not as important as he makes out and perch should not be ahead of anita, who must be really gutted that perch can get in in front of him.
We need to freshen our so called top eleven up as i dont think that they are, i have got to say simpson and jonas should not be automatics and perch who has a way of giving needles free kicks away at the edge of our box.
At home especially put a team out with a scent of winning instead of the fear of loosing
Surely fergie gets a start in the premiership, a lad who rarely gives the ball away and also creates chances and great crosses for forwards to feed on, AP dosnt really put young players over more experienced ones in the premiership and he should ie fergie for definate and young adam campbell who wont let us down, should be given a chance even if shola or cisse get a bit pissed of about it, shola has scored 1 goal this term and it is not beyond the realms that campbell got a nod before him, i think he is better than shola even now.

Comment #30fray bentos @ 11 – Didn’t think Ben Arfa was ‘awful’ at all yesterday. In fact he was great in the first half continually taking men on in mazy runs with one of those fabulous runs ending in Shola doing a Jonny Wilkinson conversion.
Unfortunately Clarke had obviously decided that to stop Newcastle you stop Benny and he hardly saw any of the ball and was so tightened up on that he lost the ball a few times. Having said that it was his wonderful burst that led to the goal at the end.
Ben Arfa can’t create everything in the match for 90 minutes – he has to be helped by the likes of Cabaye (who was pretty woeful) and Jonas (who worked hard but offered little).
We keep hearing about buying a defender or another striker but in my opinion we need a top class CREATIVE midfielder as the players we have in that position are just not up to it.

Comment #31@wynsleap – if you read my post, i said in the 2nd half (i missed the first 30 mins). He was awfull in the 2nd half in my opinion, and you can’t say that his burst had anything to do with that goal, he got tackled and it was lucky to bounce to Sammy, if he had been on form he would of passed it to Sammy before he got tackled but he is ball gready sometimes, he was very wastefull in the 2nd halk which seems to have been our bad half
I do agree that new creative midfielder would be very adviseable

Comment #32Cisse isn’t scoring because we are not creating.
He is a poacher, a guy who needs a chance or two to get on the score sheet.
Jonas does fcuk all at LW apart from track back and Cabaye gets lost in a 2 man midfield.
Pardews shite lower leauge tactics gets results on occasion but with the quality we have we should be outplaying 95% of the teams we play.
Under Pardew (unless ge can change) we will NEVER win anything or come close to it.
8 more years of performances like yesterday to add to the 2 years of shite I’ve been watching.

Comment #34why are people trying too find a place for Jonas.
If we play 433 he shouldnt be in team Lb Santon and in middle 2 Defensive Mids From Tiote, Bigi, Anita & Perch with Cabaye with them and if we play 442 Ferguson is playing better at minute so for me he should be on bench

Comment #35Fray: MOST of our players do have aspects of quality that rival the big club players, unfortunately its speratic and often changes as much as the wind. We were frankly shocking in the last match nearly every player was having an ‘off’ day, this is something that isnt new to newcastle. I just hope Ba is ok and signs a new improved contract in January.

Thats only 4 and like you said on their day, Cabaye hasn’t had a day this season, either has Cisse (although i can’t really blame him)
I think the bigger teams and have alot more than 4 of these types players in their sides and im unsure if all of these players would get regular football in the top 3/4 sides to be honest

Comment #39Give him time, all teams have bad spells even with good managers (look at Everton’s constant bad starts).
We just don’t have 11 world class players to call on like the top 4/5 teams to make the difference when times are down.
Rome wasn’t created in a day, Pardew will still be learning, you can’t learn without proper experience of playing big games at the highest level
Some fans are too impatient, use Alex Fergusons first 3 years at Man U as a benchmark

Comment #40Yes pardew can be blamed for us going long too much, he needs to get that out of some players.
But it is not that easy.
We have a CB and RB in willo and Simmo who struggle to play he ball along the floor and are not comfortable doing so.
Fair play they do try when they can and I can’t knock them for it, they just don’t have the same upbringing of passing as colo and santon.
This means that right from the back, (cause krul goes long too often as well) we have 3 of our back 5 who are more comfortable bypassing the midfield.
Until we have a whole starting 11 who are more comfortable with the short game we will struggle to play that way.
For all I like Jonas he needs to be dropped to. The guy gives 100% every game which I admire but offers nothing in the opposition half which is unacceptable for a winger.
Maybe use him in the dm role in Europe or as a full back but he shouldn’t be starting in advanced positions in the league.
