There’s an interesting story coming out today that Mehdi Abeid’s younger brother Walid, played the second half in Newcastle U 21’s 4-0 defeat at Sunderland this afternoon, when he replaced 17 year-old Adam Campbell in the game.
Walid Abeid – played 45 minutes for U21 side this afternoon
Walid Abeid is 19 years old, about one year younger than his brother Mehdi, who is on Newcastle’s books and signed fifteen months ago as a free agent from Lens.
The news is that the Frenchman showed some decent touches in the second half, but we’ll have to wait and see if Newcastle will add a second set of brothers to their squad with Shola and Sammy Ameobi playing first team games together at Newcastle.
It turns out that Walid has previously been on trial at Arsenal and also recently at Middlesbrough during the summer, and he has played for St Etienne and Fulham youth teams earlier in his career.
In fact Walid joined Fulham from St Etienne in 2010, but failed to make any progress, and the left-sided attacking midfielder can also play up front as a second striker.
We’d be a little surprised if Newcastle offer Walid a contract.
