Newcastle Win Race To Sign Top French Midielder

News today that Newcastle United are about to sign France midfielder Moussa Sissoko on a free transfer, according to reports in France.

Moussa Sissoko – Toulouse box to box midfielder

The 6’2″ box to box midfielder has played for Toulouse since 2003, and he has been compared to Patrick Vieira in his style of play, and Newcastle were first linked with this player about eighteen months ago.

Of course Chief Scout Graham Carr goes to France regularly to check on the talent there, and Sissoko’s contract runs out on June 30th, and the news that’s being reported is that Newcastle have won the race for his signature.

With so many Frenchmen on Tyneside, that would obviously have helped – always assuming of course that these reports are true.

It’s not surprising that a number of top clubs are also after the 23 year-old, who has played 191 times for Toulouse with 23 goals and 9 assists.

They include Premier League clubs Liverpool, Everton and Fulham, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle try to wrap up the deal in January for a small fee, or get him for nothing when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

Sissoko has played for all the French youth sides and 5 times for the full French side.

We  hope these reports are true because this lad is a good footballer.

Strange another midfielder but based on recent performances we need him .. hopefully the CB, young striker and RB are being looked at as well in Jan .. then we could see us hit the top 6 again.. as well as Europe..

If he has signed a pre-contract agreement there is no reason why this should not be confirmed by NUFC and Toulouse.

Great news if true because we need a CM who can tackle, pass, score goals and dictate a game. Tiote hasnt got all of those in his bag and Cabaye doesnt impose himself on games anywhere near enough to deserve his sky high reputation.

Great news if true although it’s hard to see it with us already having Tioté, Anita & Bigirimana. If he does come though it definitely means the end of Gosling (finally) or somebody else is off?!

This would be a great deal if it’s true, him, tiote and cabaye would give us the 3 in the middle we need for 433. him plus CB and a striker would be a good Jan window, and no sales of course.

Seen a few links with Cisse going to libero in Jan, if it was a big fee I’d be tempted as I think we can get doumbia who could play with ba in a 442 or on the left of a 3, Ben arfa, ba, doumbia good to me.

Well I am guessing this guy can score goals and dictate a game??
he has played 191 times for Toulouse with 23 goals and 9 assists. coz tiote can tackle as good as the best dms in the world. His passing is alright.

    Simpson Coloccini Douglas/Mbiwa Santon
    Tiote Sissoko
    Cabaye
    Ben Arfa
    Cisse Ba

If we sign Sissoko in jan, then look at the team! If Ba leaves, get Doumbia!!!!

We have a verbal or tacit agreement with him to sign a pre contract agreement in January. If true, isn’t that mischievious aka “tapping up”?

If so, and now uncovered, it won’t happen.

would be a good signing! remember this is a player who was valued 15m+ just over 18 months ago! having watched the replay i think what would make us tick is a real playmaker. dont get me wrong,
cabaye is a world class player but unlike many of you i think his long range passing and engine would go lost is an advanced playmaker-role.. i think a player in the mould of christian eriksen or isco from malaga is what would really take us to the next level.

problem number two is that we must decide between ba or cisse, we just shouldnt play 4-4-2 and we cant really afford to play a system that doesnt work and hope that it will eventually, just to keep them happy. thoughts?

lets not get ahead of ourselves with all this transfer talk this sounds like it could be true (sounds like not is) if it is its great business for toon and will be another step forward as we will have a young gifted more creative presence to push cabaye into being more on his toes and is free which as someone mentioned if we did lose gos or/and vukic there would be no loss to the club in depth and would improve the squad greatly.

This is excellent news if true. What another great piece of business by NUFC and on top of it all on a free! To think he was valued at 15M a couple of years back makes this deal even sweeter.

I would love it if we went for Mbiwa now and then we could have Saylor rotating with Colo and Mbiwa rotating with Willo or any of the back four as he’s so versatile.

He isn’t the same player as Tiote in a sense that he is more attacking. He is a box to box midfielder who prefers the attacking side of the game more than defending. He is similar to Yaya toure in his style of play but is not as fast or strong as him. His passing and footballing IQ is as good and he has the potential to be better in those areas.

If true, this is a fantastic signing. We don’t have a player like him at our club so he will add a much needed diversity and quality and strength to our side.

Bills -son @ 4 – Agree with you entirely on Cabaye. Have been saying this on here for a long while now.
Watched him yesterday at the game and thought he was average at best. For a key position in the team he does not dominate a match as he should and at times his passing was woeful. He also seems to have little periods where the game just passes him by and it goes on all around him.
Really can’t understand why he has this great reputation with Toon fans. Is it just because he’s a current French international?
Finally Santon my man of the match yesterday. This lad is going to be a fabulous player for us in the future (as long as he stays here of course).

    wyhsleap,
I agree with you on Stanton although he charges about a bit to much,Cabaye will play well when the whole team learns to play the easy ball instead of trying the hard pass.It maybe because I want them to win so much that all I can see when i watch the team is a lack of direction from the mid to the strikers allot of over the top to Ba .We seem to lose possession allot around the 18.

I think the reason that we cant announce it is because you are not supposed to speak to a player until 6 months before the end of his contract, to publish it would be admitting that you broke the law.
then again, it could just be paper talk.

I’m excited by this news. This chap will provide serious competition for Cabaye, Tiote and Anita. They’ll have to step up or watch him perform his magic on our field.
