Alan Pardew knows that Jonas Gutierrez, the Argentine International, who has become a permanent fixture in Newcastle’s side since Alan Pardew arrived, has picked up four yellow cards and he is just one caution away from a one match ban.
Jonas Gutierrez – one yellow card away from one match ban
A number of other Newcastle players are also edging towards their fifth yellow card, and with the squad so small, that’s got to be some concern for the manager.
But in Jose’s case we have a number of wingers only too willing to take their chance if Jonas is suspended, and they include Gabby Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Sylvain Marveaux and Romain Amalfitano.
James Perch also has four yellow cards this season, and James is becoming a solid member of the side, and plays in multiple different positions in the first team, currently filling in for Cheick Tiote in defensive midifeld.
Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye have picked up three cautions, and of course Cheick is serving a three match ban in the Premier League for being sent off against Sunderland.
Here’s the stats on discipline so far this season for each Newcastle player, and this is how Alan addressed the cautions:
“There’s nothing I can do about that.” “That’s not in our thinking. I will cope with the suspensions when they arrive.”
Alan’s right about that, all he can do is to tell Newcastle’s players not to pick up silly yellow cards, but to tell them to pull back in their aggression and tackles on the pitch is a dangerous thing to do.
The lads have to have that bite in the tackle and controlled aggression on the field, but they also need to be sensible and not do daft things that gets them a caution.

My point is based on olayers form having tiote hold that role with him playing like he is is asking for trouble, we all seem happy to see players like ba and jonas dropped (not aimed at you) but pards has built tiote up to much as an untouchable he’s on a 3 match ban and anita should be in there trying to put pressure on tiote to up his game
And dont agree that jonas plays LM, he starts there but cant remember a game where he finished there

Inform players should be picked nit going to disagree, ober played a great game against bordeux on the left
For me i dont fergie could or should be a LB everytime i seem him there he gets dragged across by someone everytime leaving the flank wide open happened time and time again against manure also think he lacks positional sense the lad is a winger but i still feel he is one of our “overrated” youngsters he looks quick but when peope seem to want us to be a top 4 team with europe every year he just doesnt seem like a starter to me in a team with those sort of expectations and in all honesty i would of liked him to go on loan this season to get a full season under his belt, for me thats why so many of our youngsters dont move on from just bieng promising we dont loan them to a good level or we dont loan them at all

If you think they have fletcher, McLean, sessegnon, Larson, Johnson, Gardner…all decent attacking players yet they creat absolutely nothing.
I know I have complained pardew is a little too cautious with making players defend too much and hinder us attacking but oneil takes it to a whole other level

But Jonas does start there and when he is there offers nothing which is why I think he should not start there and if played, play a different role for the 90mins. He starts left mid, does nothing then gets moved and does better, pardew must notice this and shouldn’t be starting him there.
And I agree tiote is reckless this year, I could be his biggest critic here.
I just think players need to be dropped, we have better ones or ones in better form.
Same way I am glad cisse was benched, shows he can’t live off last seasons heroics and a place must be earned.
But a point about saying tiote alone as a dm is trouble…well barca play just one but players further forward press and get back.
We might not be anywhere near barca it attacking quality but there is no reason cabaye and Ben arfa can’t play advanced in the middle but track back and come deep too, the key is having players who can rotate in positions.
Yes we might be open sometimes but overall I think it will help us pick up more points and develop the team in the long run.

Dont get me wrong jonas shouldnt play LM really think he should be LB but you also to think how do you prepare, as a player, for a game not knowing how many positions you are going to play? I genuinely believe this to be the main fault for his form he sometimes plays up to 4 positions in a game no one else in our squad is expected to do that theres to much put on jonas which is even more reason why players like anita need to step up a relieve some pressure give us some options
As for one CDM eventually i agree would ve great but for now i think tiote cant handle it atm and also have some huge reservations about cabayes fitness this season

I understand Jonas getting confused but it’s his quality I question. No matter how confused he is he should still be able to cross a ball when in the position.
I think him not getting forward isn’t he is fault. It’s almost like he is played to defend the left side of the pitch. So I think it’s a tactics issue preventing him going forward but his own fault for not crossing wellwhen he is forward.
Cabaye I did odd.
Seem him play twice for France brilliantly but poor for us.
I am sure it’s because as a team we aren’t passing and moving, this includes everyone, as well as we should. Players rarely have options when they have the ball so end up going long. Our off the ball movement has been shocking this season.
There’s nothing to panic over but the whole team need to up their game.

Comment #68Davy- sounds fair, if we get 6-7 points from next 3 games we will be set for 6th place atleast.
If we win in Brugge, we are in the knockouts, and that has to be priority in the coming weeks. I would like to see a really strong team sent over there, it’s not too much travel, and do the job for all the fans travelling over. Show spurs and the bindippers how to do it in Europe 🙂

Comment #73Tarie – after the crap they have served up the last 4 games (except europe) they owe us a proper performance.
Pardeau has no excuses, nowhere to hide. He has had the team together with nothing to consider but how to get all 3 points off the bindippers. Unless we perform like 11 spartans from start to finish there will be a lot of very pissed off fans on here.
If we perform, put in the effort, go down fighting, most of us will accept a close defeat, but if any one of the team can do more than crawl off at the end, it will be an unacceptable loss. Nothing less than 101% from ALL 11 players is the minimum performance.

thats very TRUE, but in all honesty I dnt believe we need a complete performance to beat the bindippers, their home form this year is dreadful. we definitely need a better performance than last week though. But we dnt have to be at our absolute best to beat these guys, they are nothing special.

You’re right, they aren’t special.
They do though have match winners in Gerard and Suarez.
They can both turn a game so I hope we don’t go too defensive if we lead as they can produce something special out of nothing.

Yes we should, and thats what I expect. What I’m saying is that, if our current tread of underperforming continues, we can still win, as Liverpool aren’t that great atm and we can get away with a shit performance l believe. but U are quite right. We definitely need to be at our best every single game.
