Vurnon Anita, Steven Taylor, Papiss Cisse And Demba Ba Start

3:05 pm, Sunday, November 4th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 331 Comments

Steven Taylor has been recalled in place of Mike Williamson, Demba Ba is fit and teams with Papiss Cisse up front, and forgotten man Vurnon Anita is recalled to the Newcastle side against Liverpool today.

It looks like Danny Simpson must have picked up a knock and Anita is in at right back, where he’s played very well for Newcastle this season.

James Perch continues in defensive midfield for the suspended Cheick Tiote, and we could see Perch and Anita switch positions at some time during the game today.

This is a strong Newcastle side today, and it’s good that Demba Ba passed his fitness test, and maybe we can pick up all 3 points today.

It seems a little unfortunate that Mike Williamson has lost his place, but we assume Steven Taylor has been looking very good in training this week.

The bench is strong with 19 year-old Bigirimana returning, and the Ameobi brothers are both subs today, along with the in-form winger Gabby Obertan.

For Liverpool, former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones continues in goal, with Pepe Reina still out injured, and Jose Enrique starts at left back for the Reds, and will be up against Hatem Ben Arfa.

That should be an interesting match-up.

We need the win today.

louisbowes@hotmail.co.uk – Medium mate, that would be excellent. (the new green one)

    Also what a job!

Good team. fingers crossed, breath held

  • 4 IITianToon // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:07 PM

4-4-2 but this very team can play 4-4-2 or no? Perch and Jonas as DM??

  • 5 IITianToon // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:07 PM

4-4-2 but this very team can play 4-3-3 no? Perch and Jonas as DM??

  • 6 niafron // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Anita did not play since alot of time however.

    It’s a gamble, but maybe a good one…

  • 7 toonLYF // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:09 PM

on paper – the strongest team we’ve put out since the spurs game i’d say.

  • 8 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:09 PM

What happened to Simpson? Not on the bench

  • 9 nick_9 // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:09 PM

Simpson no even on the bench, wonder I he picked up a knock. I guess if Anita is being hammered santon can go rb and then either Jonas or ferguson at lb. Bit short on fullbacks but Anita has looked ok playing there so far. Bit gutted we are still using Jonas as a winger and not a DM/bench.

  • 10 toonarmydownsouth // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Bindippers have a fair few youngsters in there squad and no riena!

  • 11 niafron // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:10 PM

    4-3-3?

So Ba on the left again?

  • 12 toonbrother // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:10 PM

hope this means ba starts on the left.

  • 13 Rowan Milsted // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:10 PM

I was really hoping that Ferguson would get a start. Looks like a pretty standard team with Perch in for Tiote and Anita for Simmo. We’ve just got to start the game in the right way and we’ve got a real chance. Gerrard, Stirling and Suarez worry me the most – Perch will have his work cut out. Would love to see Cisse among the goals today, will need to play better in the final 3rd than vs Brom. Reckon Pards will have us pumped though, could be a thrilling game.

  • 14 toonbrother // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:11 PM

    whats happened to simpson

  • 15 Marty-Toon // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:13 PM

Would rather have Fergie on there instead of Jonas

  • 16 toonbrother // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:13 PM

Ba needs to accept the best line up has him on the left. If he has a problem with how hes being deployed, he’s free to leave

  • 17 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:13 PM

So we’re going with the 2 STs with a proven limited supply line, again.

  • 18 MagPieMan // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:14 PM

Good team to put out, in my opinion. Can change formation easily with Anita perch and Jonas all capable of playing defensive mid and fullback. No doubt that we’ll change it up to 4231 or 451 sometime during the game. Slightly disappointed with Cisse and Ba playing together, as they seem to have no connection at all. But i guess they can only get better by playing together.

  • 19 geordie157 // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:14 PM

Surely it’s 433, if Anita struggles at right back he can move to midfield with santon right and Jonas left back. Hope we give it a go from the off.

  • 20 toonking // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:15 PM

well 4-3-3 seems to be the line up but am still gutted ferguson is still not being allowed to start as for the front 3 well i hope it goes HBA cisse ba otherwise we may be be only really doing creation on the right again.

  • 21 breno95 // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:15 PM

A better 11 than expected. Did have worries Shola was going to be named.
Would rather have had an extra midfielder out of Oba or Fergie which would have allowed for HBA to play just behind Ba and Cabaye a more ACM role with Jonas & Perch in the CDM roles.
Although Ed’s suggesting it’s 442 it could be a 433 set up. Will only know that when the game starts.
Here’s hoping for a solid display with pressing and energy from the off.

  • 22 Rowan Milsted // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:16 PM

Looks like a 4-4-2 to me, though there is potential to change things about with the same 11 players.

  • 23 Super Magpie // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:17 PM

Don’t know what to make of this line up.
If its 442 then we are making things much more difficult for ourselves.
If its 4-3-3 with Perch,Jonas and Cabaye in CM then I’m satisfied.

It’s about time we end this Anfield jinx.

•Since 25 February all of Newcastle’s league goals have been scored by players whose surnames begin with the letters A, B or C (excluding own goals).
What a useless piece of information.

toonLYF – sorry mate, replied this on last page:

toonLYF – cheers, will defo get you one. I know, he has the prototypes for shirts that will be released in 3-4 years time. The current AC Milan home shirt I seen 3 years ago when I met him for a music festival over there. I must admit, I do hate him in a way(haha, not really, just jealous!), I think that would be a dream job, although I think they have alot of pressure when have timescales to work to and ideas don’t work, etc. Thats probs why we end up with some crap shirts, just real last minute jobs I guess! I’ll email yer when I get the shirt.

  • 30 toonLYF // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:20 PM

Jail – good job 6 of our starting 11 consist of surnames starting with either of those letters.

  • 32 geordie157 // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:21 PM

Be glad when the game starts, QPR vs reading is alright, but lacking prem quality.

  • 33 JP...from The Rock // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:21 PM

repost: I really hope that Ba and Cisse can link up well together. They haven’t yet apart from the odd game. If they do they will be a lethal partnership. Maybe they are best replacing each other when one is doing badly but with quality like that we need them both on the pitch. If they could score in the same match regularly we could be giving young Adam Campbell more game time in the dying minutes of a match to really scare defenders with his pace and accelerate his development.

    roblee…

much appreciated mate, but aye as a graphic designer i can’t think of a better job, working in Germany, and working for Adidas. I’ve always took a huge interest in kit designs and even used to enter SAFC competitions they held for fans (which obviously i am not) to design their up coming away shirts. I actually finished second one year, was beaten by the baby blue shirt they had circa 2004? Funny enough the shirt i designed was almost a carbon copy of their current away one.

Think i’ma claim copyright, to add to their current misery of not being able to get a shot on target :D

  • 40 JP...from The Rock // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:27 PM

Good line-up, my only complain Gutierrez starting instead of Ferguson or Sammy.

HBA vs Enrique should be very interesting :)

JP I agree, hope they can form a partnership, but think it may not click until we provide them with quality service, fergs, arfa, cab and santon can all provide it, but if Jonas is out left we become a bit predictable. I want corchia in Jan to replace Simpson, attacking fullback who can cross!

toonLYF – haha, thats great! I know, to this day I don’t really understand how he got the job (didn’t even speak german at the time!) but he is a lucky man. I love the Germany away shirt you are after, it has some nice features (something german on reverse of collare ‘Deutsche something or other) and they released it as I’m sure you know, as a tribut to the 70′s German away shirt worn by Der Bomber et al. The inside of the collar has some speal about this. Anyway, cheers for the custom, I started dealing in shirts due to lack of jobs having left the Merchant Navy, so thought I’d try my hand at something I genuinely enjoy and have a passion for, rather then end up in Asda or something :) I also have a website on its way in a couple of months http://www.dogonthepitch.co.uk so will probs post it on here when its nearer its starting date, try to attract as much interest as pos!

  • 50 JP...from The Rock // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:36 PM

geordie157 – Yeah our service is damaging their chances to form a successful partnership. Gutierrez is the most to blame in this department. He can’t cut it as a winger anymore although he does offer the team a breather with free-kicks as he has mastered the art of diving to perfection. I like him as he never stops trying but it’s his dreadful passing hat makes my blood boil. The amount of times he’s let the other team off the hook with a terrible pass is incredible. Ferguson has more than enough staked a claim for his position with his consistent assists recently. Good service for a change and BOOM WE SCORE! I hope to see young Fergie replace Spidermag at some point n the game.

And instead of looking for a RB I think our left side is too weak and should move Santon to the right and look for a strong and quick LB, but who? -Pieters ain’t that quick.

  • 57 check the toastie // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:40 PM

Not a bad eleven, however it is the way they are sent out that will determine the course of the game, yet again Pardew states 442, yet again Jonas will end up playing 3 different positions during the one game and once again the usual scapegoats will be players such as Anita and Cisse.

Jonas will go from LM, to CDM, to Left back, i swear this will happen if we start 442. Hope i am proved wrong and we start 4231 and match liverpool up or even 433.

Sorry but danny simpson hasn’t been dropped for a “knock” in my opinion. His failure to close down players leads to goals and even pardy knows that now he hauled him straight off against west brom. I dont like danny simpson but i will say when he has had a good game. He did against Sunderland but his closing down is terrible..

  • 60 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:43 PM

  • 61 toonLYF // Nov 4, 2012 at 3:43 PM

yeah i also heard about it being an ode to the shirt of the famous 70′s side. What an absolutely incredible and worthy German side to wear such a kit aswell. Best team to watch in the world at the minute i’d say.

Football kits are one of those monumental parts of a year when you’re younger, and i don’t think that really ever leaves you, so it’s good you’ve taken the opportunity to do it as a sort of “hobby with an income” :)

  • 114 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:38 PM

Funny how they just let Simpson have acres to cross, because they know he’s totally incapable of putting in an accurate dangerous ball.

Colo’s having to do the entire midfields job of pressuring the ball. Leading by example, but hardly anyone stepping up to it with him.

    and score some more goals!

  • 150 davis_toons // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:53 PM

  • 152 breno95 // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:54 PM

1st 35 total rubbish. No shape no clue. Difference made when Anita into CM and Simo back in at RB.
Waste of time playing Cisse left. He is an out and out goal scorer – nothing more.
Will take the lead but have been poor again.
Let’s hope things get better 2nd half and we leave with a win.

  • 153 toonLYF // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:55 PM

  • 156 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:57 PM

I’d switch Cisse too, for Ferguson or Obertan. Alternatively ask Ba to swap, for 15 minutes, which is unlikely due to the consequent appearance of his pet lip.

  • 157 lukes26 // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:58 PM

Anita and Cabaye are the pick for Newcastle….

It seems that Anita can indeed play this game. Perch was looking a bit dodgy before he got injured it must be said. Anita’s been breaking up play and making simple passes to playmakers.

  • 158 mattnufc // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:58 PM

    Sky’s half time analysis:
Liverpool started well, Liverpool spurned chances, Liverpool haven’t had enough men in the box, Liverpool could have had a penalty, Newcastle goal, Liverpool’s Suarez hasn’t had a good day, can Liverpool create a comeback after half time, come back after the break

  • 159 pedro // Nov 4, 2012 at 4:59 PM

Again we only really look like creating when the ball gets to Ben Arfa, if thats the case get it to him more!

  • 160 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Yes, Perch’s injury and the reshuffle seems a blessing in disguise. Anita looked like a fish out of water at RB.

That was never a red imo for Collo…never…hardly a yellow.

If Suarez haven’t reacted in his usual diving way it would have been a simple foul. Collo hardly touched him.

  • 272 mattnufc // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:53 PM

Good point. A lot better performance than last time but still too reliant on Ben Arfa and Cabaye. Guiterrez needs to improve. Coloccini will be missed.

  • 273 fray bentos // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:53 PM

    @catchy

Cos its just that easy against liverpool at Anfield

In a game like this, you need to use every counter attacking opportunity you get and he’s wasted most of them, we would have had more attempts without him

  • 274 TheToonKing // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:53 PM

So what about if there was intent…he hardly touched him… stupid stupid decision by the ref.

  • 275 toonarmydownsouth // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:53 PM

  • 276 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:54 PM

Disappointing. Had it under control really, apart from one defensive lapse.

Which of the senior players to have a stinker and cost us next weekend? Tiote, Colo, (fill in the blank).

  • 277 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:54 PM

Suarez hit the deck as soon as he felt collos knee, not his studs. It’s a red yes because collos studs are up, but Suarez dived to get him sent off. He is a rat-donkey and a parasite to modern football. Hope John carver knocks the refs teeth out.

  • 278 9 // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:54 PM

Heis a prick but I wish we had one the same

  • 285 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:57 PM

I can sense the neggars coming in full here. No reason for it, as far as I am concerned we weren’t at our best, had to massively alter the team 3 times due to injury, got our captain sent off by divin little sh1t, and had referee against us most of second half.

Well earned point, on to Brugge and the highs of Europe. HWTL!!

  • 286 JP...from The Rock // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:57 PM

It’s like the commentators were hoping for Liverfool to score! Gutierrez really WTF ARE YOU DOING!!>> DO YOUKNOW HOW TO PASS A BALL!!!???

  • 287 jimiley // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:57 PM

You can see why we are averaging one goal a game. No creativity in midfield. Take HBA out the team and it creates nothing but free kicks and corners. Its an 8 year plan so we have to hope in 7 years things improve!!!!

  • 288 jonny-intense // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:57 PM

I was feeling confident at the end of the 1st half, by the final whistle it was more “phew!” than anything else! They were there for the taking as well.

  • 289 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:58 PM

Why are you lot having a go at the ref especially after you agree with his decision of red card? The only person to blame for the red card is Collocini, not the refree not suarez

  • 290 fray bentos // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:58 PM

    @9

i think liverpool are actually canny good untill the final ball

    Difficult to play against

Well done Pardew to get a point i say

  • 291 joe // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:58 PM

WTF was Colo thinking with that tackle!? Absolutely shocking tackle, wouldn’t have expected that from what was suppose to be our defensive rock. Rightly sent off imho.

    @Thetoonking
If i lunge in two footed at you and you managed to jump out of the way it’s still a red card for me mate.

  • 292 catchy in norway // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:58 PM

    fray bentos

its not easy against any team in the prem,

but from a coaching point of view, pardew has had long enough with this squad to have them playing football, but he seems to have multiple systems that he works on all the time,
for me this is madness, our players dont know where to be,,
i can see you like pardew, but you must see that as the coach, he carries the can for what is going on

fantastic point away to LFC, but suarez goal was amazing, his first touch, wow

taylor and anita where our best players for me

  • 293 fray bentos // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Awfull challenge, if he had of connected he could have really hurt Suarez

  • 294 Widowmaker // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Colo was clearly affected by ref’s double standard. Sterling should be shown red and Colo was simply reActing to reg’s standard and play it harder than he usually does. Poor poor ref IMHO.

  • 295 Toonacious T // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Another performance when we haven’t clicked. Ten games in and we still lack any real flow going forward. Still only 3 points off fourth place but something is seriously wrong with our set up.

  • 296 nick_9 // Nov 4, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Fray bentos you are full of it about Ben Arfa normally, anything to say today?

  • 297 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:00 PM

Some players need dropping and to stop being picked on past achievements. Cisse has looked a husk of last season’s player and Jonas, despite showing some pluck when we’re up against it, is simply visibly deteriorating in terms of ability.

Still very out of sorts, overall. We looked very good for the 5 minutes leading up to half-time, I thought we’d cracked it.

  • 298 JP...from The Rock // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:00 PM

jimiley – who said it was an 8-year plan, last I heard it was a 5 year plan. Just because Pardew and Carr have been given an 8 year contract doesn’t mean it’s a plan. I sure hope we are doing much better in the not too distant future, say 2-3 years.

I fckuing hate how Sky Sports only talk about Liverpool and only show and talk about Suarez’s goal arrrrrgghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

  • 299 fray bentos // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:00 PM

    @Catchy

I think if you look at that performace you will see some of our players are wildly overrated

So getting a draw awy to Anfield is an amazing result, Pardew must be doing something right

  • 300 Super Magpie // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Anyone blaming Pardew for that is an idiot.
It was Jonas’ and Colo’s fault for their goal and another defensive mistake has cost us.
I also have no complaints over the red card. Wreckless challenge. Not that I blame Colo for trying it. ;)

We’ve also been unlucky in the fact we had to make all subs by the 65th minute because of 3 players going off injured. I assumed Cabaye was injured when he came off.

Finally, we’ve actually not lost at Anfield for the first time in years. It could’ve been much worse today and had I been offered a point before the game I would’ve took it.

  • 301 Jamiemac // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Simmo, Taylor, Sammy – class. Ben arfa, Cisse – poor. All those that keep calling for fergie ahead of simmo are craaaaazy!

  • 302 Kebabacus // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Pardew needs to send Cisse out on loan for 6 months… Then after a few days, recall him and get everyone to pretend like they have just met him for the first time. You never know, might reboot his system.

Guti, however, needs 6 months off.

Still, very happy with a point at the grannyshankers.

  • 303 magpie6699 // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:01 PM

  • 304 jimiley // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:02 PM

Every game is a struggle. Nearly a third of the way through the season so the tone is set for the rest of the season. Grind out the points against the good and bad teams. That was a bad Pool team. One of the worst in last 50 years and we made them look half decent.

  • 305 9 // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:02 PM

  • 306 Big Pappa Cissé // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:02 PM

we never got going at all, shocking performance. Cisse might as well not be on the pitch if he plays out wide, and what was Pardew thinking taking Cabaye off. Also Gutierrez needs to be dropped, his half arsed pass that caused the goal was diabolical

  • 307 TheToonKing // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:02 PM

@joe yes, except that was not a two footed challenge. He had on leg raised, wasn’t lunging, jumping, going in with too much force etc.

  • 311 geordie1892 // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:05 PM

  • 312 TheToonKing // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:06 PM

As some of you I’m really worried about Cisse. He’s a scorer and that’s it. Offers nothing else. When his not scoring, now, he’s a liability.

  • 313 jimiley // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:07 PM

    JP,
I do not listen to SKY. But there was only one team doing any attacking (apart from our goal!) so its no surprise they are talking about Liverpool. Nobody is interested in the highlights of good defending.

  • 322 JP...from The Rock // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:09 PM

When we scored we looked alive and back to our best but then we soon got sloppy in the second half. Gutierrez’s passing is getting worse by every match. He is becoming a liability and has been doing this a lot of matches not just today. We need a GOOD PASSER as we don’t seem to have any.

  • 323 toonarmydownsouth // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:10 PM

  • 325 niafron // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:10 PM

Today, it was all a mind problem.

    We played like absolute underdogs.

In the second half, we were too low on the pitch, and we lost our nerves.

A good team must feel more secure in such circumstances.

This is the difference between us and the top sides.

Anyway, we’re only three points away of the the fourth place, so, not a bad week for us.

    Got to go lads.

    Bonne soirée messieurs.

  • 326 nick_9 // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:11 PM

I agree that he is greedy but at the same time he is always trying.

You can put eleven players on the pitch but that doesn’t make you a team. Some players are being picked on names alone as I think ruddy said. Cisse has one goal in ten games, drop him and play 4:5:1 or a similar 4:3:3 without him.

Colo banned or three games is a massive loss and for me guti lost the game for us. Last season it was all about Ben Arfa giving the ball away easily leading to the opposition having chances, today guti did just that.

Would have taken a point before, now I’m just a bit gutted at the performance, result ad a three game ban for our best centre back

  • 327 Made a ma beed // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:12 PM

@9 Yeah, go YouTube Sterling’s tackle and kick on Simpson. That is a clear red. Never mind his tackle on Cisse

  • 329 toonking // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:13 PM

after what i watched today i regret all the stick i give pardew for the team lacking aggressive because when you have 2 widemeHBA, jonas who constantly giving the ball away and a forward who does very little to help no wonder we are sitting back all the time.
so why should simmo both getting forward when HBA is so ball greedy why should cabaye play aggressively when jonas gives the ball away and how can ba recieve and balls he does get passed if cisse stands around.

  • 330 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:23 PM

When you have to take off your best striker, your best midfielder, your defensive midfielder, and lose your captain and best defender, and still get a point at Anfield, it’s a good day.

  • 331 AmeobiTheMackemSlayer // Nov 4, 2012 at 6:24 PM

Guti is past it. We need a new CB, Left Mid, Striker, RB and CAM. We lack depth seriously, although I think Sammy is going to be great in the future. Sky hate us.
