Magpies After International Defender – But Must Pay Massive Fee

Newcastle are again being linked with Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld, the Belgian International, who the club have been watching for over a year now.

Toby Alderweireld – 19 times capped Belgian International

With Alan Pardew saying there are seven center-backs on Newcastle’s list  for the January transfer window, we have to think that Toby is one of them.

His former team-mate Jan Vertonghen joined Tottenham in the summer, and Jan has done well in the Premier League, usually at left back for Spurs, and it seems that the London club are also interested in Alderweireld.

But the bad news is that both Newcastle and Tottenham have been told they will have to come up with a massive fee, if they want to sign the 23 year-old 19 times capped Belgian International from Ajax.

If that’s the case – it has to be exit right for Newcastle.

There’s no way Newcastle are going to pay a massive fee for any player these days, and since 24 year-old Douglas of FC Twente is available as a free agent in the summer, he would be a much better acquisition for Newcastle, and there are also other younger center-backs Newcastle may try to bring in during January.

Toby is yet another one who came through the Ajax Academy – like Newcastle Vurnon Anita –  and Ajax produce so many good  players, with great basic skills and passing ability. That’s what Newcastle Academy’s goal is over the next few years.

Toby can also play at right back – but the “massive fee” wanted By Ajax will surely rule him out of a move to Newcastle in January.

Cross Toby Alderweireld off that list of seven. 😀

    Jaws,
please tell me what you enjoy so I can join in man There’s very little cohesion, very few shots, lack of flair (in general), it’s painful to watch dude, always just hoping for an odd goal and to hold out. This ain’t Newcastle’s style.

Anyone knows why Suarez, odemwingie, and other players celebrate by biting or kissing their wrist? Seen another player do it this weekend too.

Ah, the missing defender we have been buying for the past 12 months – If he costs more than £4 million, you know its just not going to happen!!

BUT – we can all live in hope!!

Breno/Cyprus, yeah, I fully agree we are capable of playing more fluent, dominant football and have been below our best in this regard all season, but I also think you have to give credit to the opposition, who seem one quality striker away from being top class and the occasion, which is always highly intense and emotional. I cant agree that it was an abject display. I thoroughly enjoyed the contest, particularly the last twenty minutes.

Bit of a non-story this Ed?
You start by saying we are possibly interested in this player and dismiss it at the end by saying we probably won’t be going for him due to the expected fee.
Are we so short on good topics at present?

Personally I think a fee in the region of £7.5 million would get us this lad and for what is a young, up and coming player who is ready to throw into the first team now I think that’s a very reasonable price. At some point Ashley’s got to loosen the purse strings a little if we are going to progress in the league. As proven this season we are definitely short on cover at centre half and with Toby’s ability to cover right back as well I’d snap this lad up straight away if we can do a deal for him. Definitely a player to enhance the team but also build the team around for years to come.

It hardly makes sense to waste the resources of Carr & other scouts watching a player whom we know is going to be priced out of our range. We could be missing some unknown diamond in the rough somewhere else.
Therefore, I reckon either we aren’t bothering to watch Toby A, (could Carr be watching a team-mate or opponent?) or else we are fairly sure he would NOT cost more than we can afford.

So besides the conjecture and pure speculation, where does it actually say Newcastle are after this player????

A fan fiction piece of fluff at best…

It would be nice if we were after Toby, but I’m almost certain he’s out of the picture financially.

Would be cool to see us build continuity in our defense by bringing Anita’s former teammate to toon, but Douglas would still be a nice catch.

Who knows, maybe Carr will find another young gem for 1-2m the likes of Bigirimana.

Also with this new stronger side we’re fielding on Thursday, it would be nice to see Amalfitano get some time.
