Newcastle’s 21 year-old striker Nile Ranger has had charges dropped against him in court, but the youngster was bound over to keep the peace for a year, and if doesn’t do that, he will be fined one week’s wages.
Nile Ranger – on £3.5K/week at Newcastle
One of the several cases that had been brought against the Londoner over the last 15 months was one for kicking his girlfriend’s door in, but Nile said he only did that because he was afraid she was being kidnapped – this lad is good on his feet obviously.
Ranger was arrested in the early morning of Sunday 23 rd September, and it was after his girlfriend called the police, because she thought someone was breaking into the house.
In court, Ranger’s lawyer had the following to say:
“Mr.Ranger was in a club when he was told by a friend there was a kidnap threat made to his girlfriend.” “He was suitably worried and attended her address. All the lights were off and after knocking a few times he decided to kick the door through”
Is it just me, or is that a ridiculous made up story – well maybe it’s even true – but the court did accept the explanation from the lawyer.
The charge of criminal charge has been subsequently dropped and Nile Ranger was bound over for an amount of one week’s wages, which was £3,500.
So Nile is getting around £182K a year from Newcastle on his five-year contract, which is not too bad for a 21 year-old, who probably has no chance of ever playing for the Newcastle first team again.
That’s unless he mends his ways by training 100% each and every day of training, and not arriving late – and oh yes – by not getting himself into trouble with the Northumbria police.
If he can do those things we suppose there’s still a way back for the 21 year-old, who two years ago looked to have a promising career ahead of him at Newcastle.
That’s no longer the case.
