If Newcastle can continue to bring on the kids (Sammy looks half way to something special) and manage to get one player in, in an area that needs strengthening, of the quality of Anita, at a decent price, each window, then I’d think we are very much on track. I’m hoping that goal will settle Anita down and we will start to get much more from him. Not fully up to the mark yet, but my MotM.

Good to see you posting again!
Agree via bigi think the game passed him by a bit tonight and wasnt as accurate as usual with his passing
Shola i thought had a good game and will probably be disappointed not to get on the scoresheet more than once although its been so many seasons since ive seen him actually turn up and play for 90 mins i may still be bieng impressed just for that 😉

Have to say my big disappointment tonight was tav i know he was out of position at lb but thought they exposed down the left all too often in the second half and gave possesion away cheaply when going forward and if im honest i just dont see the hype and imho i’d rather we still had van anholt
The other disappointment was tiote getting another ban is he going for a record? God help us in our first FA cup game!

Hello mate, how are you? I was on for a bit this morning, and have been a bit of a silent observer here and there, the neggars/idiots had taken there toll and I needed a break!!

Shola just annoyed me tonight. He was good at times, in the air he was untouchable and obviously he scored. hat I’m trying to get at though was how selfish he seemed, ok he’s a striker of course, but he could have brought more players in and I thought he was too one minded tonight. Maybe I’m expecting too much, I dunno but his slowness at times really frustrated me.

    Still adore the guy though!

As for Tav, he had good and bad moments. Marv worries me much more. Some silky touches but didn’t impose himself enough in what was a golden opportunity tonight for him.

Pleased for Anita, what a goal and a good performance. I’m fond of seeing Sammy included too, the raw talent is there.

Mameobi will be very proud of her boys making history tonight though nonetheless!

(from a couple of threads passed)

Get over yourself man, I’m not having a go, I just think Bigi and Shola could have performed better. Don’t bring in the whole ‘have you ever played football’ thing in to it, it’s pathetic.

I’m well aware we aren’t Barcelona and I think anyone who knows me on this blog will agree that I do have realistic expectations. What I’m saying is they weren’t the best performers in the side.

It was a good result for us, I never disputed that.

Lovely strike from Anita our players need to do this more often from outside the box Santon has the capability to do it as well

Still not sure what to make of Anita’s best position looked excellent in midfield against liverpool but poor at RB against them and vice versa against Villa but tonight looked really good think it depends on the opposition if its a game where we will be attacking a lot he would be good on the right or left playing with Arfa!

Hope Ferguson and Santon getting rested means they will be the double act on Sunday on the left with Arfa and Anita on the right!!!!

Does this mean the end for Simmo though??

Also another thing its mostly Krul’s fault why we lose possession the 2 main supposed culprits Willo and Simmo where off the field and whenever he gets the ball its like a hot potato he kicks it long without actually looking sometimes its why we lose so much possession as there was a fair few times when he should have just held onto it or rolled it out to a defender except he went long and we lost it!!!

Think Sammy looks good at times still not sure of his position i think he would be better as an impact sub to run rings round teams when they are tired rather than as a starter him and Campbell could mean that we don’t need to invest in another young striker maybe??

    some good points made there.

I’m not sure about Ferguson’s role come Sunday. I know Simpson is carrying a slight injury and may not be back for the game.

We could see Anita partner Cabaye in centre mid, santon right back (even though I would agree with everyone that his best position is right back) and ferguson left back. You know for a fact Fergie won’t be left wing, because Pardew will play Jonas there.

I would say Fergie was more rested than unselected tonight, as he is surely ahead of Marv in the pecking order, judging by this season’s merit.

As for Sammy, I know what you mean, he’d be great to bring on. But he does make things happen and he could just as easily start. He impresses everytime we see him.

Anita was the big plus tonight because he showed us all what he can do, he stepped up for sure.

Aye sometimes watching shola is a bit like watching a train pull out of a station but hes never been blessed with pace! Think there were a couple of times he could of played someone in but strikers dont think like that ba n cisse are guilty of that too but as the game wore on he did seem to get a bit frustrated.
Sammy is just mind boggling does his brain know what his feet are doing? Who knows who cares it works and the lad has some serious skills he like a cross between benny obertan and the tazmanian devil!

Have too agree about marv showed glimses but wasnt in the game enough tonight although his set pieces are something we could definatly do with he looks like he could drop the ball on a 2p in the box from a dead ball

I don’t think Xisco will ever wear the shirt again, something to do with appearance fees being owed. Plus, is he good enough? (kets don’t answer that, it’s late)

What annoyed me tonight is Pardew included Xisco knowing he wouldn’t play. He seems to have brought him just for the sake of it, if you’ve read his pre match comments. Xisco isn’t the future though, someone like Adam Campbell is so surely he should have traveled?

But hey, if that’s the only fault I can throw at Pardew then what does that say? He’s doing a grand job and tonight was a good night for us, good selection and we edged it tonight. I’m happy.

Ah, I completely agree, it’s how strikers are wired I know.

Sammy is a crazy little player to watch though, such quick feet!

We are repeatedly awful from set pieces and Marv looks classy when it comes to it. Such a shame he got injured because it’s hindered him getting used to English football, the style and expectations.

I can’t write him off yet though or say he can’t play in the Premiership, in time we may well see him adapt. Just didn’t do enough tonight though, quality exists for sure mind.

    – Muamba on the pitch at white hart lane by the way, really powerful scenes here. (itv4)

hopefully willo is alright then because im sure perch is doubtful for sunday. god knows who would then partner stevie?! Tav?! Either way, prospects don’t look good.

    tads

Yeah totally, seems like such a good lad.

In terms of game time, it’s very very early on in Marv’s Newcastle career, I’m confident he’ll get better.

I mean look at Obertan – he does my head in at times, makes a lot of mistakes but one thing I’d have to argue that this Europa competition has done him the world of good. He’s had some good games and has some confidence. He hasn’t let anyone down at all and has improved. I’d not put him in the PL games yet like but what I’m saying is, I’d definitely not write anyone off.

Can’t stand posters who come on and go ‘we should just get rid of williamson and obertan, they’re sh1t’.

    – The squad looks better than last year for sure.

Our 2 youngsters have produced when it matters i think that’s 3 assists each that Sammy and Ferguson have now for the season can’t really argue with that!!!

Poor Tiote i think its praying on his mind now he looks anxious in the tackle now as he tries to not get booked but still manages it!!!

Marv to me looks more and more like a ball playing cm than a winger. He picked some decent passes today, hopefully he can get a run of games. Well done to anita as well great goal and a hand in the 2nd hopefully he’s starting to get to grips with our play style.

Also i dont know why but our europa team seems to have som much more balance and fluidity than our pl team. Weird 🙂

I had no idea about Perch to be honest, if he is out for a month we’ll actually miss him. Players like him and ryan taylor are great to have in the squad and when they aren’t there you do realise how important their roles actually are!

West Ham seem to be in good form so it’ll be a tough game, we need Ba to play. And the thought of Tav thrown in at centre half is scary… I’m sure it’ll be Willo and Tayls

Hey, if you know any then recommend them to Carr and AP 😀

neither did I actually, and it didn’t look as if he’d been flying around the pitch. I don’t think the ref booked him on reputation either.

I reckon the reason he yellowed him was because we’d made a few fouls on them in the 5 minutes before Tiote’s pull on the player and the Brugge players had been screaming at the ref about it – ie shola giving away freekicks. Maybe he just gave it because it might of been in his mind that he’d missed a couple of things.

I dunno, but I’ve seen him booked and even get away with bookings for a hell of a lot worse!

Yeah definitely, he looks for the ball so much more. IN fact watching the game tonight, he even came too far for the ball! Last ten minutes he strayed from the right wing in search of being on the ball more! I was like where the hell if Obertan supposed to be?! But aye, good on him!

And yeah i think Willo has done well this season. He’s come a long way since signing for us and a lot of the stick he gets is unjustified.

ahhhhhh beefman, the champion of the shane ferguson support group!

Seriously though, I think you make a good point. I’d have fergie on the wing with jonas behind him, rather than the other way round.

I’ve always said that I’m a Jonas fan and I stick to that but it isn’t happening for him in that left wing role. Pardew has to attend to this.

I suppose we could even shuffle that line up so it looks like this:

    krul
    anita willo saylor santon
    HBA Cabaye Jonas Fergie
    Cisse Ba

Maybe that would be better but I can’t see Pardew opting for that.

carrying ,as you say i think the world of fergie mainly beacuse he isnt wasteful can defend and attack and supply.

Perch said in the chron last week that heis like steel in training and not to be fooled beacuse of his weight he has football strength as he calls it.

im a massive fan of young adam campbell as well, watched them both since they have been at the toon and they are the real deal, i would honestly rather watch campbell then the forwards we have, a big statment as he is only 17 but in the same class as sterling at liverpool, campbell is a lad who is intelligent and again not wasteful with a brilliant football brain and great instinct for goal, and shit of a stick off the last defender that would give us a great option as our other forwards while not slow arnt that quick they can get away from a defender that way.

beef… I agree with the talent of Fergie, he’s a player that gives us another option and has showed us moments of brilliance.

But I don’t want to get carried away either, he still hasn’t fully established himself.

If we are going to look at our starting 11 using this idea of ‘purple players’, then Jonas is the purple under the most threat to being replaced. Fergie could push him out of the starting slot by the new year, but he needs to continually impress.

As for Campbell, I have never seen him play. I know the hype and obviously he has something about him, having clearly shone in the reserves.

I couldn’t say though I’d have him in the team yet.

I want us to beat Bordeaux so the last match against Maritimo is irrelevant and we can try more of our youngsters.

I’m dying to see Campbell and Abeid in action.

Man of the match for me was Anita purely because he rose to the occasion and seemed much sharper, I would consider starting him on Sunday if his fitness is ok. Really impressed tonight.

Shola for me needed a partner upfront, he won a few flick ons but for nobody, he always looked dominant in the air.

Marveaux needs to impose himself more, if he was a bit more aggressive running at players or using his pace then he could be a force. The game seemed to drift him by other than a few good passes and a good delivery from set pieces or crosses. Obertan got into some good position but looked wasteful, for me e and marveaux should hae scored. He did however look better than his substitute appearance against west brom where we was embarrassing but I’m really struggling with obertan, he Just is not cutting it for me personally.

Sammy amoebi looks dangerous but reminds me a bit of hba in his early days, he wants to take everyone on and isn’t the greatest team player. He does however look like a real talent and I am sure he is going to come good for us. Not sure on his best position though?

All in all we didn’t lose but I felt we could have won it, at 2:0 down I would have taken a draw but was hoping to see us push on and win it in the second half. Still top of the group and unbeaten.

As for Sunday I would love to see us have Anita in the team in and ferguson. Seen someone suggest santon and ferguson on the left and Anita and hba on the right, that for me would be attacking and exciting but I think I wil leave the tough decisions to Pardew

carrying, i understand when i am ranting on about adam and lads must be saying is he really that good? i say he is personally and ive said before a cross between shearer rooney and owen at that age.

Ive watched him for under 18s and under 21`s and he gets better all the time and has such a level head on his shoulders

Of course you have to do it on the big stage and im sure we can afford the lad games to settle but i personally think he will get straight in to it no problem, lets hope for all of us he delivers, a proper future geordie superstar is how les ferdinand described him a couple of months ago.
