Former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan has come out today and said he is looking forward to returning to St. James’ Park, where he spent 30 months after being signed from Bolton Wanderers for £4M in January of 2010.
Kevin Nolan while at Newcastle – he always gave 100%
And Kevin captained Newcastle and helped us dig ourselves out of a huge hole we had dug for ourselves, when the team was relegated in May of 2009, and many of the top players left – and left quickly too.
But not Kevin and other top players like Alan Smith Fab Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez, and the former Bolton captain helped Newcastle get back to the big time at the first attempt, and of course he was voted Championship Player of the Season in our promotion season.
And it seems Kevin is expecting that he’ll get a bit of a hot reception when he leads West Ham United out at St. James’ Park on Sunday, after leaving the club 17 months ago, when he couldn’t agree a new contract and Newcastle wouldn’t offer him a five-year deal, which is what he wanted.
This is what Kevin told the local press today:
“It was a top-notch place to play football, so I’m looking forward to going back and getting a bit of stick,” said Nolan. “It’s all good banter!”
If any returning Newcastle player shouldn’t get booed it’s Kevin, who was a monumental player for us after we got relegated.
