Nolan – Newcastle A Top Notch Place To Play Football

Former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan has come out today and said he is looking forward to returning to St. James’ Park, where he spent 30 months after being signed from Bolton Wanderers for £4M in January of 2010.

Kevin Nolan while at Newcastle – he always gave 100%

And Kevin captained Newcastle and helped us dig ourselves out of a huge hole we had dug for ourselves, when the team was relegated in May of 2009, and many of the top players left – and left quickly too.

But not Kevin and other top players like Alan Smith Fab Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez, and the former Bolton captain helped Newcastle get back to the big time at the first attempt, and of course he was voted Championship Player of the Season in our promotion season.

And it seems Kevin is expecting that he’ll get a bit of a hot reception when he leads West Ham United out at St. James’ Park on Sunday, after leaving the club 17 months ago, when he couldn’t agree a new contract and Newcastle wouldn’t offer him a five-year deal, which is what he wanted.

This is what Kevin told the local press today:

“It was a top-notch place to play football, so I’m looking forward to going back and getting a bit of stick,” said Nolan. “It’s all good banter!”

If any returning Newcastle player shouldn’t get booed it’s Kevin, who was a monumental player for us after we got relegated.

What do you think?

    WIZARD NEWS
    BREAKING:
Brugge temporary manager has admitted that recent form, and the loss of their manger, George Leekenes, has left them hurting and open, but their centre back is backing them to win.
Brugge is overflowing with Geordies now, with rumours of between 5 and 10 thousand Geordies rumoured to have travelled to the Belgium city.
Also, Douglas of FC Twente has confirmed that he was “probed” by a few clubs, including Newcastle in the summer.

Wizard tricks – same news in 2 places!! Conaldo – you could soon be seen in similar light to Gandalf!!!

Cant see why Nolan would be given grief, he never gave less than 100% when he was at SJP – a good player and a good guy as well.

I certainly won’t give Nolan any grief. Was one of my fav players at the time, and I still like to see him doing well.

It would be an absolute disgrace if anyone gives Nolan grief; he wanted to stay at the club. He’s a top bloke who gave everything on and off the pitch! Also no player should get stick if they score a hat-trick past the Ma**ems.

Too right Ed. The guy played really well for us and never ever gave less than 100%. His leadership in the Championship, his goal tally as well as his 3 goals against the Mackems should give him a special niche in Toon history.
Although not as quick as he was (was he ever?) he will still be a danger to us on Sunday as he is still wily and competitive in and around the box. He and Carroll will have something to prove and it could be a tempestuous 90 minutes.

Graeme…which ale are we talking about? (Golden Christmas Ale?)

…I doubt it being that it’s Belgium and not Denmark 🙂 but try a St Feuillien Cuvée de Noël or a Corsendonk Christmas Ale 🙂

Captain Darling……Seems I’ve found a problem with your new name 🙂

Nolan did us proud whilst at the club, as did Andy Carroll really. Although i understand the negativity surrounding his departure.

In theory we should be beating West Ham, but I can see this being a tricky one.

Wizard…..You’re doing a fine job, please let me know if you’re ever looking for an anchor or researcher, etc. Perhaps from my lofty position I could provide traffic updates – not sure if that will be useful mind. Weather? Nah, that’ll just p*ss you all off.

Ibiza – wasn’t Captain Darling the father of Wendy – she of Peter Pan fame?? Obviously Jesper moves in high circles!! Or is it the bird that does that? Or could that be tinkerbell?? This is starting to become slightly confusing now!!

Can see a repeat of the last time against them tonight.

Edgy 1-0 to us, not the best to watch but another job done. Much more excited for the West Ham game.

Nice to be back reading comments where people are having a bit of banter. Took a week off from the blog after the last couple of matches and people’s post match comments, really can’t be bothered for it! A mixture of racist comments flung at Belfast Magpie and typical kets and co berating of our williamsons and simpsons!

Off to a meeting now but will give my thoughts after the game, hope all you regulars are well and positive as per usual!

…except you that is Ibiza, I hope the fence is treating you well as ever 😉

Not overly keen on Nolan taking care of Big Andy when he needed some advice on whether to stay at the club.

I remember him advising Andy to leave and saying Liverpool would be a great move for him, whilst captain of our great club, just another mercenery footballer IMO. Hope he has a stinker.

Never his biggest fan to be honest, however in hindsight it looks like he may have been worth another 3 years on his contract, he has proven me wrong, has been in good form lately.

Check….From a personal view, I agree, his courting on Carroll at that time did stink a bit from a Newcastle fans perspective. However, looking back now I couldn’t care less. £35m for Andy equals superb business.

Don’t really miss him so much as a player, but his goals would be handy. At the end of the day, I still feel it was right not to give him the length of contract he wanted. West Ham did, good for him.
