Newcastle have seven points from their opening three Europa League matches in Group D, and a win tonight at Club Brugge could see us qualify for the final 32 and the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
Sammy Ameobi in home leg against Club Brugge
Alan Pardew will start both suspended players tonight – Coloccini and Tiote – the manager has also said the Ameobi brothers will start this game, and yesterday Shola got his first call-up ever for the Nigerian squad and could be in their squad for the African Cup of Nations in January and February, and that would be bad news for Newcastle – and further strain our small squad.
This is what the Newcastle manager said about that:
“It is a discussion myself and Shola have had before and we will have again,” “But he will start against Club Brugges, and it will be the first time Shola and Sammy will start together because Sammy will play too.”
With Club Brugge without a manager, after George Leekens was fired over the weekend after five successive defeats, we should have a decent chance to win tonight, but Alan Pardew is not so sure:
“I’ll be surprised if we secure qualification because winning here is going to be very tough.” “We’ll enter it to win it, and that would certainly be welcome because we’ve got some tough games coming up.”
“The guys are in really good spirits. We’ve had some very tough games recently, but to come through to where we are has left us in a very good position.”
In truth, anything but a defeat would be a good result tonight, but as always Pardew and Newcastle will be going for the win – there’s nothing like wins to give the lads confidence.
And on Sunday we entertain West Ham at St. James’ Park, and that has to be a game we can also win and start taking us up that league table.
Howay The Lads!!
