Pardew – This Lad Looked A Class Act Against Brugge

Vurnon Anita is leading our Man of the Match poll with 35% of the vote so far, with Sammy Ameobi second on 21% and Shola in third place on 18%, and certainly Vurnon Anita had his best game in a black and white shirt last night and showed his class.

Vurnon Anita congratulated by Tim Krul after scoring great goal

Vurnon Anita came from Ajax with a good name, and the Ajax manager Frank de Boer had said after Newcastle signed him in the summer, that he was one of their best players.

Newcastle paid out about £6.6M for the Dutch International, which is a lot for Newcastle these days, and Vurnon can play in either full-back position or in central midfield.

Anita looked comfortable at right back last night, and from what we’ve seen from the 23 year-old so far, that may be his best position, or left-back, since he can play there too.

But Alan Pardew was simply delighted with the lad’s performance, and he had this to say after the game:

“I thought everyone played well tonight, I really did. Anita had his best game for us.” “I don’t care how much money you have cost or what club you have been at before, you need to play well in the new shirt and really, that’s his first really good game where he looked like a class act.”

“He got a great goal, he was good all night, so that was a real bonus tonight and it will give him confidence going forward. I thought that Sylvain, who had a difficult game at Everton, came back and looked bright tonight, he looked sharp. When we have got no Cabaye, we need Sylvain because he gives us an intelligent pass, and I thought he did that tonight.”

“There were a lot of good things that came out of the game.”

Anita will come through big time this season, once he gets used to the fast pace and physical nature of the Premier League.

And you can still vote for Man of the Match in our poll, if you haven’t already done so:

I’m impressed with our team currently.

They are playing with no fluidity and not getting hold of any game yet we still pick up points.

Obvious we need to improve our play but it says a lot about the character of a team to hang in a game when it’s not going well.

Yeah unfortunately it wasn’t in a black & white shirt, but a neon lime green one 🙁

Can’t wait to see what Anita brings to the table as he gels with our squad and grows more experienced as well. Easy to forget he’s only 23 and has technical ability not found in most scrappy DM’s
