Famous Newcastle Striker To Join Coaching Staff

6:21 pm, Saturday, November 10th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 173 Comments

News today that former top Newcastle striker Faustino Asprilla says he has plans join the Newcastle United coaching staff, as a youth team coach in the Newcastle Academy.

Faustino Asprilla – joining Newcastle coaching stafff

The 43-year old was at Newcastle from 1996 through 1998 and played around 50 times for the club and scored 16 goals, including his famous hat-trick at St. James’ Park against Barcelona, when we hammered the Spanish giants 3-2 in September of 1997.

Faustino has told a Columbian radio station that he’s planning to join the Newcastle coaching staff:

“A year ago I spoke with Newcastle’s owners about bringing over players from my coaching school in Colombia.” “It didn’t happen due to some requirements of the English league but then, during informal meetings with fans, I said I’d be interested in returning.”

“That encouraged the owners and three months ago they invited me over. I’m motivated and I like the city. I often accompany the team when they are travelling in England. It is a significant opportunity and hopefully something will materialise.”

“I will pass on my experience of the game and what I have learnt. I also hope to help the first team”

It’s good to have former players come back and be part of the coaching staff, and as well as Faustino we would hope that some day the great Nobby Solano can get a full-time coaching staff at the club in the future.

But this is good news about Asprilla, and it looks like he will be coming over in February and will then take a two month coaching course.

And once he completes that course he will join the Newcastle coaching staff.

    Repost.
    Catchy – ill answer you

Jonas would be in my team yes. As a defensive/ centre mid, full back, or on the wing provided he had a very attacking fullback behind him (ie. fergie)

Pardews first sub is not always obertan. But depending on the situation, if the game is in it’s closing stages, and you need some fresh, fast legs to run at defenders, break their positioning and line, and allow space for strikers then I think obertan is a good sub. Different scenarios call for different players.

And why wouldn’t I find a place for cisse, he cost 10million pound, he is a proven excellent goal scorer that is just struggling to hit form. It is common sense to play both your strikers when they are two of the best strikers in the league.

Man U team may be their worst for years, but it’s still a top of the table side. It’s only bad by Man U standards.

I think you just need something to complain about. We are not going to play Barcelona-esque football every week, in the premier league which team plays fantastic football week in week out? No one. It’s not possible. The premiere league is too physical, too fast, too competitive.

Pardew got us to fifth, he has us top of our Europa league group, we are like 4 points of 4th in the league or something.

Instead of saying : we never play well Pardews crap.
Why not say : when we get a run of good performances together we will shoot up the league.

Yes who knows. Maybe i would want someone else to take a second look, not sure i would trust Tino’s opinion! But he is still hugely respected in this part of the world so could maybe have some influence. Basically, I still love Tino and think it would be great to have him involved with the club

Imagine ginola and Ben arfa in the same team?!!
    My mix team would be
    4-4-2
Krul – Loved Pav but he was an accident waiting to happen
Simpson – prefer him to watto at right back
Albert – tache alone puts him in
Colo – simply the best CB I’ve seen at the club
Beresford – santon not quite the finished article yet
Ben Arfa – Would have been the icing on keegans cake
Lee – think modern fans forget how good he was
Tiote – on top form the best def mid in the league
Ginola – my sporting idol as a kid
    Shearer – no explanation needed
Beardsley – the cleverest player we’ve ever had

Gateshead Mag that makes me feel sick. We don’t know how lucky we are never mind these footballers. Men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy our liberty.
    They should be ashamed.

i understand about the troubles between britain and ireland in the past but if your playing football in england, wages being paid by the english public then you should respect the english traditions. especially the amounts of money there getting for it

  • 44 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:06 PM

Whats Tino gonna teach the young lads – how to pull in a fur coat in Bigg Market? :) I’m a bit concerned about tomorrow . Sam is tactically smart and will be dying to get up the noses of the men who sacked him. And we have a weakened team out. So 2-2 for me, with the usual awful first half. What will be interesting is who plays the most “long passes” as Sam used to say. It seems odd now, but I wanted Sam when he got the job originally because of his professionalism etc , which I felt NUFC needed at the time. I also felt that most clubs in England played the same type of british / irish style football and that he got bad press when other teams were doing much the same. What turned me so much against him was his big faced attitude, his old chairman touting him for the england job, his rubbish about being able to manage Madrid, and his stupidly defensive approach to the game which saw us losing at places like Reading because he was “teaching the club the club how to win 1-0 ” etc. Annoying man, and a good and pleasing move by Ashley to dump him and his enormous cortege.

  • 45 Gateshead-Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:09 PM

iv got a feeling either nolan or carrol will come back to haunt us 2morro. just hopin we play to our potential. we managed to beat a very good west brom team last time out at sjp and im sure west ham are a far easier prospect this season

  • 46 tequilamag // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:10 PM

Strange one that as many Irishmen volunteered to fight in the First World War.

  • 47 pedro // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:16 PM

I despise Fat Sam. He is a such a one-dimensional manager but instead of ever admitting that he plays a certain style of football he claims that its a media invention. He is his own biggest fan and just because Ferguson says nice things about him he seems to interpret that as him being one of the top managers in the world. The claim about being Real Madrid manager was hilarious.
That said, I think tomorrow will be a tough game. I worry about Carroll and Nolan linking up and hope that between Willo and Taylor we can keep them out. I’m going for 2-0 or 2-1 to the toon. Ben Arfa with one, as I have a feeling he will have one of his games tomorrow.

  • 48 geordie157 // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:18 PM

Tino!! That’s still my favourite home shirt. Win tomorrow and 7th, got a bad feeling though that maiga may prove a point and grab them the win.

  • 49 toonarmydownsouth // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:27 PM

Really not looking forward to that jabba the hut looking mofo bieng back at SJP even if it is only for one afternoon!!!
Nolan is the biggest worry tbf hes bang in form and he loves games like this proper warrior im sure he’ll get a huge cheer before kick off followed by 90 mins of bieng heckled everytime he gets the ball followed by an even bigger cheer at the end of the game!
Carroll will get a sympathetic clap for how badly liverpool have fcuked ip his career
Important to start quick tomos tho cant let them silence the crowd

  • 50 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:28 PM

James Mcclean up to his old tricks again.

    Suprise suprise. lol

  • 52 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:35 PM

Maybe he’ll refuse to pay tax next? lol

Im not suprised in the slightest to be honest.

Tomorrow being the 11th of the 11th, NO player should be allowed to leave the tunnel without a poppy. It just IS NOT an option.

    Do they have no respect??

  • 56 gringo burt // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:44 PM

a think nolan sould get a good reception, are people forgetting the goals he scored against the scum, always tried hard,am not saying kiss his arse but nicr before kickoff then heckle all you want.

  • 60 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 9:58 PM

I think Nolan deserves to get a very good reception. He was an excellent leader in dark days, like Hughton. Then I hope someone kicks him up in the air. I still reckon 2-2. Suppose that means I’m a negger! lol

  • 61 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 10:10 PM

I dont like the little swine at all.

But in his defence, there’s very few catholics from Northen Ireland who would wear a poppy.

And a Irish Republican would never wear one.

He’s always struck me as a Neil Lennon wannabe lol

best to ignore him,in my humble opinion. ;-)

  • 63 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 10:27 PM

Nice to see Sunlan lose again, but in fairness they did create at least 3 chances :) . I hate the way the normally brilliant Irish football analysts still think O Neill is God’s gift. 1 win in 18 . Puts him up there with the Fergusons and Cloughs of this world.

The 1st world war battlefields of flanders, france, belgium were covered in natural poppies because the land was never touched for years after the 1st world war.

The war officially ended at 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month and it has been recognized ever since.

It is completely without religion, race or creed. It remembers the dead of all conflicts whatever their faith or race.

Now I get Munster Mags comment :)

Hyphen the lemon crew is simply my crew (consisting so far of 5-8 people on here :) ) ppB made my captain of the lemon crew (it is a long story) and I had a job interview to recruit!

  • 74 tequilamag // Nov 10, 2012 at 10:54 PM

Belfast there should be no room for sectarian bigotry in football, but we both know it`s not immune to to it. What Maclean did was wrong but maybe he was afraid of the stick he would get back home. You only have to look at the threats Lennon has had to live with playing and managing Celtic.

  • 75 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 10:55 PM

Graeme, I’m not sure that the poppy commemorates those who died apart from those from Britain and US / Canada etc . Jesper I think there was a move a few years ago for a white flower to commemorate all nationalities who died including Germany etc. I dont think it is celebrated in Europe generally ( France? ) but I’m not sure. Its not marked here in the Republic generally, although since the Queen came over and even visited the fine and beautiful province of Munster we’re all a bit more pally wally. Mind you if she wasnt respectful to Thomond Park I’d say , ” Oi, Queen , Nooooo !! ” ( Not sure if you got the Fast Show in Denmark , top stuff :)

Ten times worse than Mcclean like. lol

There was a lot of very offensive stuff that came out of Lennons mouth over the years.

Gateshead, speaking of Tele’s , I think both of mine have died, one in the last few minutes. It was an old big box Sony – about 12 yrs old max, but was looking iffy. The wife has me killed because she wants a new kitchen ( i have given in ) and now the box, and the flat screen are both fooked. Mind you, the last action the TV saw was the Mackems losing. Surely a great way to go out? :)

  • 82 tequilamag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:11 PM

Belfast, I would have thought that a Catholic player, playing for N. Ireland would be evidence that he wasn`t a bigot . Am i missing something? From what I remember the hassle he got from N Irish supporters started after he signed for Celtic.

Wizard…I am currently trying to find an old post where the lemon crew became a reality :)

…something tells me you already have a part to play mate ;) If not, I’ll find you for you.

You know ever since ppB has gone missing on this blog I cannot find sh*t :) (where is your first maid when you need him :) )

  • 85 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:16 PM

Jesper, I’ve a funny relationship with the old Poms. I’m actually very fond of them and always end of being best friends with english fellas at weddings etc as i lived there and obviously gave many English girls the benefit of a Munster man’s thrilling love making techniques ( lol) but i also take the piss liberally, as an Geordie would, out of southern bores. I mean, Hemel Hempstead , Slough , Croydon , you gotta laugh at them dont you?

  • 86 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:18 PM

Yeah he signed for Celtic then started being very vocal about being an Irish republican lol

He supported the armed struggle etc etc

Didnt go down to well with the protestant support.

Most of Northern Irelands mõst capped players are catholics.

    Never had any hassle.

Lennon was playing up to the Celtic support and it backfired ön him big style.

  • 87 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:19 PM

Heed, incidentally, my playroom TV dies tonight RIP. The last thing it showed was the Mackems losing. What a great way to go.

  • 88 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:19 PM

Jesper – I look forward to tall tales of the lemon crews creation.

Also, good for santon, he’s really improved, and has arguably been our stand out player so far.

  • 89 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:22 PM

  • 90 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:22 PM

Wizard…I really wish my memory was better right now – it’s like looking for a needle in a hay stack!

  • 91 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:24 PM

Belfast, in fairness, if a neutral was to go to Windsor Park and the Aviva/Lansdowne, I think they would see far more nastiness in terms of sectarianism in Windsor. Just because your best players were Catholics — no wonder ye didnt hassle them! Its interesting to see that the top winget with Derry City is going to play for NI though, and all’s fair in love and war. In fairness, listening to Trappatoni or Martin O Neill, I’d go to O Neill all day long!

  • 92 Novocastrian66 // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:25 PM

What McLean fails to realise is that he is playing for an English club, with English fans who no doubt have relatives and friends who have laid down their lives for their country.
He has no respect for them.
This is about respect and he has shown he has none.

  • 95 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:27 PM

And he spat at Rangers fans one of his first old firm games too.

There was a lot of abuse that went on with Lennon and Rangers fans through out his whole time at Celtic.

    Didn’t deserve death threats like.

But he certainly isn’t mr innocent either.

  • 96 toonarmydownsouth // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:29 PM

    Munster
    Why have you?

  • 97 tequilamag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:32 PM

Belfast, can`t find a single article on Neil Lennon where he is quoted as being in support of the armed struggle. The most contentious thing I can find he has said is that he supports the idea of an all Ireland football team. I suppose from that you could infer he supports Irish unification but it is a bit of a stretch to say that he supports the IRA. I have found quotes from him saying that” if that was the case he would never have played for NI”.

  • 98 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:36 PM

No were near as bad now munster.

Lennon is the only catholic I’ve ever heard getting abuse.

  • 102 BelfastMagpie // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:43 PM

It was probably 96/97 so not sure if you’ll get quotes??

Think anyone calling themselves an “Irish Republican” would of generally supported the I.r.a war mate.

  • 105 tequilamag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:48 PM

Belfast, not my fight mate so not not going to argue with you on this one. I would say though that I had a few Irish Catholc mates when I lived in Leicester who favoured reunification but none of them supported achieving that by violent means. Most of them were in England to get away from all of that.

  • 106 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:49 PM

I think things are certainly a bit milder now. Like a lot of southerners, I like the unified Ireland thing like boxing and rugby but its not to everyone’s taste and thats fair enough, nee bother. One thing is certain for a small lump of granite with a low population, Ireland north south east and west produces a solid amount of sporting talent. If we didnt have hurling and gaelic football down here , we’d produce some brilliant footballers and rugby players. Some of those hurlers are amazing athletes and so tough.

  • 107 Munster Mag // Nov 10, 2012 at 11:51 PM

TDS, you must be a hard man, drinking in the Swan and Sugar Loaf! Bloody bunch of addballs when I was there, but it had a stringe community feel about it, in a slightly smelly but likeable way. Next time I’m over to Croydonia to visit my best mate ( Forest fan , safe ground apart from pitch invasions ) , you gotta meet us for a pint. Or else your a big fat mackem, obviously. This is a bit mad lads, me and TDS should both be living in Newcastle! ( He’s obviously loaded, with a big posh southern job, so i’m hoping he’ll buy me a pint ) . Seriously TDS, go to the Crohan sometime. Great bar owner, baldie bloke called Aidan, i’ve even had lock ins there!
