Newcastle were linked with 23 year-old striker Charlie Austin a couple of years ago while the striker was still at Swindon Town, but we didn’t make the move for him, but since the 6’2″ striker moved to Burnley almost two years ago, he has a fantastic goal scoring record, and 20 goals in just 17 appearances this season.
Charlie Austin – 20 goals in 17 appearances this season
Charlie has done well since he joined Burnley almost two years ago, and has filled in well this season for Jay Rodriguez, who left for Southampton in the summer, and Charlie has 20 goals in just 17 appearances for Burnley so far this season.
There’s no doubt this lad has an eye for goal, and at Swindon he hit 37 goals in just 65 appearances, and at Burnley so far, his overall record is almost exactly the same with 37 goals in 67 appearances.
Austin was at Poole before he joined Swindon in September of 2009, and he hit 64 in 57 in non-league football.
The news earlier this week is that his top form in the Championship has alerted clubs like Newcastle, Aston Villa and Reading for a possible January move.
But Charlie has said he is happy enough at Burner and had this to say to talkSPORT.:
“I’m here to play for Burnley football club,” “I’m enjoying my football at the moment and I long to stay here.” “Everything’s going really well for me personally but, like I’ve said many times before in other interviews, without my team I wouldn’t be able to get in these positions to score the goals.”
We’d be surprised if Newcastle go after Austin now, although some reports suggest Alan Pardew is a big fan, but there’s little proof of that.
We had tracked Austin a couple of years ago, before Pardew joined the club in December of 2010, and while he has shown he can score goals in the lower leagues, as we all know the Premier League is a different kettle of fish – and it’s much harder to score goals against top defenders.
The only way this could be a deal for Newcastle is if Graham Carr has watched the lad play this season and thinks he could do the job for Newcastle – that would do it.
But since Burnley managed to get £6M for Jay Rodriguez to Southampton in the summer, a great deal for Burnley, they will not want to let Charlie move for anything less than that.

Comment #2We dont create enough for our strikers, so if he came his goalscoring record would drop and he would be made a scape goat.

Comment #3Sounds like a natural goal scorer by that goals record.

Comment #4Rather sign Austin than Carrol then spend on much needed defenders

Comment #5We need to actually start the game at kick off time not half an hour into it. We are the slowest starters in the league and this needs to be sorted
