Now we know what Shane Ferguson played not part at all in the game on Thursday night – as the Northern Ireland International has been handed a starting position this afternoon in the home game against West Ham.
This is Shane’s second start in the Premier League this season, as he continues to push for a starting position in the Newcastle team.
Danny Simpson comes in at right back, and it looks like Jonas Gutierrez could be playing in central midfield this afternoon, unless Newcastle play in a 4-3-3 formation.
There are none changes made form the side that started on Thursday evening against Club Brugge in Belgium, with only Tim Krul and Mike Williamson keeping their places.
As expected both Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll will start for West Ham United.
This is a game Newcastle can win (and should win), and we need all 3 points and we could climb to 7th position with a win today.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams:
Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Davide Santon; Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Jonas Gutierrez (c), Shane Ferguson; Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana, Romain Amalfitano, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Shola Ameobi
West Ham Jaaskelainen, O’Brien, Reid, Tomkins, McCartney, Noble, Diame, Nolan, Benayoun, Jarvis, Carroll
Subs: Spiegel, Demel, Collins, O’Neil, Hall, Maiga, Cole

I think toon brother means that Anita will bring more to te game than Jonas.
Not that he wants people injured our missing just than Anita could influence the game more

It not a blessing to be without a player as it weakens the squad.
It is a blessing he has left the pitch as this season he has done nothing with the ball.
I appreciate he works hard and defends well but at the same time he lays mainly on the left and that position requires attacking threat too, he hasn’t offered that at all this year.

Up to this point in the season niether has tiote, anita, cabs n benny on a regular basis in fact none of our team have played well this season but jonas has been made the scapegoat, even for colocinnis shocking defending against pool it was jonas getting blamed
Oh well he’s off now but thats okay cos atleast ferguson is on who apparantly should now be a starter and has revolutionised the way we play now jonas is off i fully expect to win 5-0 possibly 6-0 if ba decides to stop being selfish and just leave the pitch

My criticism of Jonas was him playing on the left as I said.
So therefore I can only compare him to other wide players.
From what I have seen I think fergie has put in much better crosses and been more influential in attacks during his time on the pitch.
I also feel obertan and sammy, whilst not being consistent through a full game have also offered more attacking wise.
I’m not saying we will win or even play better with a different man on the left but I am saying Jonas has had 10 games doing it and hasn’t impressed so therefore I think somebody else deserves a run at it.
I think Jonas is better in a defensive midfield role but only as part of a three man midfield not part of a two.

Comment #112@transfer sage youre wasting your time. Anyone with common sense understands the nuanced point you’re trying to make. Unfortunately many NUFC fans only see things in black and white (pun unintended).

Comment #114Transfer Sage, I’d have him in my team a lot, but centrally rather than on the wing. Pardew is a defensive manager and Jonas puts in huge yardage tracking back and he is , without a shadow of a doubt, one of his fav players. I would play Santon at right back and get a decent left back in who can attack and defend. I dont have an issue with 4-4-2 at all, as it gets both Cisse and Ba on the pitch up top, but we dont use good wingers to make that system work. As for people slagging off 4-4-2, Ferguson has used it for years and hasnt had any problems has he?

Comment #115Awful tactics, awful play… and Ba and Cisse must not play together!! 442 is ancient, a formation i expect norwegian teams to play. Not us! I’m afraid Pards is playing this just to please Ba :/

I have never being critical of Jonas defending. I said in my posts he does this well.
My point is that if Simmo gets criticism for not attacking enough as a full back why is Jonas not criticised for not attacking enough when played as a winger.
I think his defensive play has been superb but as a winger that’s a secondary job, his primary job is to get forward and help with attacking.
