Newcastle Interested In West Ham Midfielder

Mohamed Diame joined West Ham last August as a free agent, after being at Wigan Athletic for three seasons, and there’s some news today that Newcastle may be interested in signing the 6’1″ defensive midfielder, who has played 12 times for Senegal.

Mohamed Diame – West Ham defensive midfielder

There’s no doubt that West Ham’s good start this season is linked with the good form being shown by Mohamed, and there’s news today that he has a release clause in his contract, just like Demba Ba’s, and would you believe it’s supposed to be £7M – the same as Demba Ba’s?

We find this story hard to believe,  and think Newcastle’s name has been tagged on as being interested in the player, probably because the journalist  thought about Newcastle and Demba Ba, when he found out that Diame has a release clause in his West Ham contract.

£7M would be too much for Newcastle to pay for another defensive midfielder, when we already have Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana and James Perch who can play in that position.

The 25 year old played 103 times for Wigan with 7 goals and so far he has played 11 times for West Ham with one goal.

Given that Vurnon Anita is starting to come through, and he’s looked good in the last few games, and that we also have 19 year-old Gael Bigirimana looking a potential star of the future, Newcastle don’t need a defensive midfielder right now, especially if they have to pay £7M for him.

Newcastle need to strengthen the defense in January by bringing in at least two good players, and that will give Alan Pardew at least some fighting chance of having Newcastle finish high up in the Premier League this season.

What do you think?

    fray from last post

I don’t think anyone including DMW wanting AP out.
I think he is saying if bad results due to the way we play, in next 5 matches COULD BE 80% of supporters will start asking for AP out.
It’s still COULD BE, not yet happened.

Maybe Pards figures if he had 20 central midfielders on the books he might be able to scrape together two or three who are in form.

I think Ibiza and Matty also pointed out that what DMW said was only a prediction nothing more.

I don’t think the club actually want Diame, they had a chance when he was free transfer and choose Anita instead.

“It will be squeaky bum tim for Pardew in about 5 matches time, I’m not making this up, I would say as high as 80% ( no I have not counted them) at the ground are not happy with the direction Pardew is taken the club,”

    Dead Man Walkings ACTUAL statement!!!

I like pardew, think he deserves time to get the team he wants.

I do dislike the defensive tactics. I think the players we have could be suited better to other ways of playing, just an opinion.

What I don’t like is that people confuse defensive tactics with having no tactics.

Pardew has a very clear plan which is to keep things tight at the back first and foremost.

Whether you like this tactic or not it is a tactic. The players know what they are doing. It may not be the best to watch but it does not show pardew is clueless, it shows he is cautious.

would have been an excellent signing pre-Anita, but I’m afraid Pardew had to jump the gun for Vurnon in the event a big club made a swoop for Tiote. Defensively we would have been in trouble had we lost Tiote and had no solid senior back up.

Hopefully the interest we’re showing in new wingers is true.

Pardew will always play defensively when his best 2 defensive players arent on the pitch.

    Why wouldnt he??

He does not have players the same quality as Tiotie who protects the back four greatly and when it is breached, we have Capt Collo.

When those two arent playing, its a case of ……wooaa, we need to be uber careful here!!!! I back that tactic whole heartedly!!

Load of rubbish this rumor, sissoko is possible. If we wanted Diame surely we would have moved for him in the summer.

Whether they want him out now or in 5 games, to come on here and say 80% of the ground is not happy with Pardew is still a ridiculous statment

Like ive said i don’t think a single one of my mates is not happy with Pardew yet somehow he scoops 80% out of the sky and brandishes that about like some sort of evidence that his views on infact shared by most

And yes there are a fair few on here calling for Pardews head, Catchy being one of them

@Transfer Sage, I tend to agree with you. Defensively, we are often pretty stout. The major barrier to clean sheets recently is probably our tendency to play poor offensively and then play TOO defensive and allow the opponents to build some momentum. More chances on goal means more luck.

If Pardew can ever create a system for Cisse and Ba we will be in business again. Offensively we have been really poor though.

Maybe the squad isn’t as great as we think. Given the chance of overhauling the roster I’d only keep Krul, Collo, Taylor, Santon, HBA, Cabaye, Tiote, Ba or Cisse but not both and the emerging youngsters and Shola off the bench.

As much as I like them, the rest of the squad are neither here nor there as far as I can tell and to be honest half our better players are performing pretty duff, or suspended or crocked most of the time.

We just don’t stack up at the minute, we’re losing our individual battles more than last season and were sitting where we deserve to be, it might even flatter us a little.
