Newcasle Could Be Without Four Top Players On Saturday

Things are not looking too good at the moment, and although Cheick Tiote has served his three match ban and will return against Swansea, it looks like Yohan Cabaye may miss out with injury, and if course Jonas Gutierrez has already been ruled out because of the knee injury he picked up last Sunday, in the defeat at home to West Ham.

Papiss Cisse – could be barred from playing on Saturday

Yohan Cabaye missed the France game last night – a 2-1 win over Italy – because he suffered a stomach muscle injury during  training with the French squad, and he is now doubtful for the Newcastle game on Saturday.

And Papiss Cisse pulled out of the Senegal squad this week, and it seems that Senegal are questioning why he is able to play on Saturday, when he was unfit to play in mid-week.

Well the reason is simple – because he wasn’t fit for Wednesday but he will be fit for Saturday – and minor injuries are like that.

But Senegal may invoke the FIFA five-day rule, which means Cisse would be unable to  play on Saturday – but that would be so daft  – if that actually happens.

Alan Pardew had this to say about the Cisse situation:

“We feel we have covered all the bases to give them the information, but they seem not to have received it, so we are in discussions with Senegal and the FA about his availability for Saturday.”

The five day rule may be OK for competitive International matches, but hardly for friendly games,  when players have to travel huge distances to play a game, and sometimes don’t even get to play – and the games are squeezed between two Premier League weekends.

Fabricio Coloccini will miss the game on Saturday, but he was in good form last night in getting his 35th cap and helping Argentina to a 0-0 draw in Saudi Arabia, but he is serving a three match ban for being sent off at Liverpool.

So it could be that we’ll be without Coloccini, Gutierrez, Cabaye and Cisse on Saturday, and the Argentine pair will certainly miss the game.

If Cisse is ruled out we have Shola Ameobi, who will be traveling back from Miami today,  after coming on as a sub in the Nigeria 3-1 win against Venezuela and picking up his first cap ever for Nigeria, the country of his birth.

Let’s hope both Cabaye and Cisse can play on Saturday – we need the win.

What do you think?

I’ve waited a bit to put my offering on the blog as I understand there are some dangerous fans knocking about. Mmmmm I wonder what a dangerous fan is, is it
the same as a fickle fan, or is it a negative fan, a positive fan or a fan that does not agree with my views etc etc.
What a complete load of rubbish. Since football began, well at least from when I started watching it there have been people with one view and those with the contra view -that is football – a game which divides opinions, diversity of opinion if the fuel that sells papers, creates blogs like this for fans to put their views etc etc. The mentality of the baying crowd can change from one week to another. Who cares, what difference does it make in the grand scheme of things -will the world end probably not.
Clearly there are people with strange opinions (or are they strange) that I might not agree with -who is right who is wrong -who cares.
Should I insult someone with a differing viewpoint (by abuse/foul language) – a person I will have no idea about their personal antecedents (might be a child, person with learning difficulties).
Should I feel better following my insult – will I be supported by others in my abuse to the blog outcast”/person with opposing views.
Why do fans persons tweet/blog in the first place (those interested in the psychology behind this question check out Abraham Moslows hierarchy of Needs).
    Rant over.
    Back to football.
I have reservations about Pardew – last season cannot complain at all really the team exceeded expectations -what will happen at the end of this season or next season. He should be given time to see if last seasons efforts can be replicated/exceeded. (whilst at West Ham Carlos Tevez complained that Pardew continually played people out of position) I add that for what it is worth/whether it is true or false -time only will be the judge.

It seems everything is going against us at the moment. Senegal are being bitter over Cisse not playing for them and now don’t want him playing for us. They need to grow up and accept the fact that he didn’t go. It was only a friendly and nobody cares about them. Who ever decides to have friendlies during a league game week is an idiot. Totally disrupts teams training and shouldn’t be allowed IMO. Clubs pay the wages, they should choose what happens.

    Oh and Ibrahimovic’s goal yesterday… Wow! 😯

I don’t think we will miss Jonas too much. His form has been dreadful by and large this season, don’t know if that is down to him, or the way AP has told him to play, but he deffo hasn’t been the player he was last season. Mind, the same could be said for several of our first team.

I agree with you about fans and opinions etc. But there are some people who are way off the mark. There are times where I read posts and I think ‘ what a load of sh*t.’
Then you get your more positive , more negative and then the neutral posters.

Also, Pardew done well last season. It now looks like we way overachieved. Had we strengthened in the summer I don’t think it would be the case. We’ve had much more injuries, suspensions and games than we had last season so ofc things are going to be more difficult. This is when we have to back the team and Pardew ( no matter how bad we are playing) and not go back to the revolving door of managers. I am too baffled by some of the stuff we’ve been playing recently though.

    Then lets use
    …………………….Ben Arfa
    ………………Ba/Cisse (which ever is fit)

Even if we only play one up front I think if we put Ben Arfa in the hole that will scare other teams enough to keep them on the defensive. We know he can dribble past players, so lets him do it in the final third.

Never seen it applied to Alex Ferguson who has been pulling this stunt for years or does it just apply to us?

    for what its worth

i think out of all the so called poorer teams, swansea will be the team he fears the most right now,
i think they will pass the ball around us for fun,,

i expect tiote big to be in there, and would not be surprised if anita got int there to but any 2 of them means very defensive as none are really attack minded,

out of all 3 though anita seems the one who tries to get it going forward
i only hope shola dont play 🙁 id rather he moved HBA just behind BA

i’m a positive supporter as i think we are in a good position topping our group in europe and in mid table with the players we have at the club when not long back we had stars who did not want to play for us we got relegated and was in debt upto our eyeballs not to mention changing managers every few month’s and all the papertalk every day.
we are supporters and that means we support the team and help them do better not put them down so they lose motivation.
the upsetting part for me was a chelsea fan was laughing at me yesterday telling me thats what toon fans are like and that we only have to lose 2 games in a row and the fans will want the manager out….seems to be going that way again doesnt it 🙁

croftus…..I’m with you. Whilst I am genuinely open to the idea that we should be able to criticise things at the club, we also have to be wary of the effects too many disgruntled fans can have. It’s very easy for people to lose sight or reality and for the mob mindset to slip in. Have to say, reading bits on here the last few days, this is the first time it’s started to feel a bit like the old days.

I just hope people know what it is they’re unhappy about and what our actions can or will do. I’m not saying don’t find fault with the club, manager, board or players, but think it through and keep it realistic. HWTL.

i assume the reservations about 4231 is the lack of wide coverage. Put it this way, the right flank will be badly exposed because Ben Arfa wont do a lot to protect it – even less so if he is central.

Are we really having calls to sack the manager. Are you absolutely mental.

I was a surprise as the next when he was given a 7 year contract. I have never been 100% about him. But I do think he’s got a lot of thing rights.

Sacking would gain absolutely nothing. We’ve had a bad run. Due mostly, I would have thought, to the fact we haven’t been able to put out a regular back four since the start of the season. And now can’t start a regular 1st team.

Sack the manager…….. Give your head a shake.
